Borderlands was great.
Rage looks generic and bland in gameplay, and nothing new to me after i played Borderlands in setting.
If it has coop and i see something that sets it above 'point & shoot gun at human enemy #7' ...i might have... some interest i suppose? ...but come on... lame dramatic characters and weapons no different from those in every FPS i can think of... vast majority of enemies are human and dont seem to act differently... 1-hit kill insta-reusable boomerang... nothing its shown so far has been even remotely interesting.

...i might buy it for cheap though, one day.
Agreed. Rage just has nothing new to interest me, and frankly the way they treat the industry I wouldn't want to support them even if they did have an average game.

So what are your guys thoughts of this game? I realize I am a bit late to the hype party but I would like to hear some more opinions (company marketing decisions aside; focus this conversation on the game itself and your opionion of it)
When I saw the gameplay trailer it looked pretty much like Fallout 3, the starting location they were in just looked like Megaton with cars and gameplay looked like pretty much walking into any ol' factory in the Wasteland and shooting stuff up. The difference being though the emphasis on the different ammo types. Doesn't mean it's going to be bad, just that it's just going to be unoriginal for the most part; something that's very common in almost all industries. As for the marketing tactics, the backlash was really stupid because they didn't even read the article and in fact it was the most lenient thing to come out of anti-used sales tactics.

Although what I don't get is the hype that it's made by id, does that really matter? It doesn't mean it's going to be automatically good by any means and we've already had the bomb of Duke Nukem Forever showing how old developers try to work out their dream projects when gaming has changed.

I think I may [pass up the new Dues Ex. I have played all of them but honestly it doesn't look much to different from the others. I geuss I want to see what augmentation you can get first.
Trust me, having possibly played the leak, Deus Ex is hypothetically amazing.

Rage looks like fun, I won't deny that and even with the doubious marketing decisions, I don't give them a crap, because I'll eventually get it for PC.

As for the game itself, yup, I'll get it eventually, when it gets a discount next QuakeCon next year, that's when Bethesda's games get a serious discount, including Skyrim.

I've worked at both companies, and I think some of the similarities are due to people working one one game and then going over to the other studio to work on the other. They're both in the Dallas area. I'm sure the visuals of RAGE played some part in the art style change of Borderlands, and I've seen a lot of visual elements in RAGE that may have come from people who used to work at Gearbox. So yeah, games aren't made in a vacuum.

It looks like it will be a great game, but sadly I won;t be getting it. I'll borrow it from a friend or something like that. I'm just against it when a company cuts content for any reason, it bothers me so much.

RAGE looks fine, but I'm not keen on grabbing it on launch. It's just so... brown and done, or so it seems from the limited stuff I've seen of it. I'm already really looking forward to Deus Ex and BF3, both of which look to be fantastic, but RAGE looks much more like something I'd pick up later when it's on a sale. Maybe it's the marketing, maybe it's just market saturation I dunno, it just isn't on my radar. Especially after recent disappointments like Brink.

Yeah, RAGE has been looking pretty amazing.

The thing that most impresses me is that every single texture in the game is unique. No 2 rocks look alike because every part of the game was hand built. Truly awe inspiring when you think about the fact that the game would is about the same size as Fallout 3.

The AI for the game also looks fantastic. Very interesting fighting styles with lots of variety will make all the enemies a lot of fun to fight.

The only problem with this game is when it's coming out. After playing Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, STALKER, Metro 2033, Borderlands, etc., I've gotten pretty tired of the post apocalypse setting. If this game had come out a year or 2 ago I would have snatched it up instantly, but right now I don't think it will be able to hold my focus for too long, so I'm putting off buying it for a while.

This game isn't developed by Bethesda, only published by them. This is an ID software game.

RAGE still looks kinda "meh" to me.

Sure, there is a wasteland, different weapons, vehicular combat, sewers, (Every game needs a sewer level) mutants, co-op, and other things, but Jak 3 and Borderlands had all that and both of them were good. (Scratch that, Jak 3 was amazing.)

Oh well, can't judge until I play. Another brown shooter added to the long list.

On a side note, I can't wait to play the new Deus Ex.

Nothing about RAGE interests me. They keep hyping and hyping, but when you try to pin them about what makes their game so great, people either won't answer you or give some vague answer or say "But its by ID" and expect that to sufficient. Well its not, and RAGE doesn't look like it has shit compared to any of the releases coming out, so it can take a pass and get out.

I'll get it, because I like Id Software, and the gameplay seems rather fun, but it looks very brown.

Sorry I can't do that. I won't jus take someones word for it. From all the gameplay videos I have seen it looks same old same old, albiet wiuth a badass new character.

So rage has been getting a lot of hype as well as a lot of negative attention due to marketing decisions and what not.

So I decided to actually look up some game play of it. And Dear god. I think I a tear almost came to my eye. This game looks like everything Borderlands said it would before they decided to focus the game completely on lame jokes. You remember that?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3iEuTuKvdU

It reminded me heavily of the borderlands game informer article, its world reminds me of a much more real fallout and to tie it all up I saw a few steampunk elements here and there.

In my eyes, this game is everything Borderlands should have been.

So what are your guys thoughts of this game? I realize I am a bit late to the hype party but I would like to hear some more opinions (company marketing decisions aside; focus this conversation on the game itself and your opinion of it)

?????? i thought we were talking about RAGE,the video is Borderlands.what's there to say from what i hear it's another generic FPS.and if i get it it's going to have to be for console,as I'm about to leave the PC gaming scene.just way too many bad ports for my taste.
I am not sure what you are confused about unless you didn't read. I asked id anyone remembered what borderlands was supposed to be before they decided to take the omedy route, and posted a video of it. What is so confusing?

Instead of asking people just watch the games gameplay. It surpisingly looks pretty damn solid.

RAGE looks pretty good, but i heard that you have to buy a copy of the game on the opening day, when it is first released, no used copies, or else the damn game company will tear a chunk out of the campaign. so no, this does not sound good, as i always buy my games used because that way they are nice and cheap. but if id software thinks that it's a good idea to cut out a piece of campaign cake and give to the people who buy it brand new and not to the people who buy it cheap and used, i think they're out of their bloody minds! i buy my games used, that doesn't mean you have to do this! i understand they want the big bucks, but they gotta understand that some people can't afford new games, and those people don't need to suffer. also, i like borderlands and think it's a good game.

I'm undecided. Half the time it looks great. The other half the time it looks utterly generic.

At the moment I'm mostly interested in it because they've said that they'll be using the same engine for Doom 4, but really I just want them to get it out and done so we can start hearing about Doom 4.

first off what's with all the brown arguments if you mean Brown as in the color it's supposed to be that way since it's a dirty wasteland if you mean brown as boring than i'd say the only thing that looks fun to you is an acid trip

secondly I absolutely agree that RAGE seems to be what i wanted from borderlands. Borderlands was nothing but a shooting gallery to me, shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot nothing much else but a few cheesy jokes slapped next to it and a story i could care less about, since i was side tracked by other quests. But RAGE seems do the half-life 2 way of story progression by what i've seen and i liked half-life2 so i am definitely giving RAGE a shot.
