Couldn't find any threads about it so I'll start one. Despite my snark title, I admit I'm a pretty stoked. Lotsa Borderlands games this year and I love me some shoot and loot. So what do think Escapists? Glorified DLC or maybe something good, showing Jacks fall from heroism(or so they say) and (FINALLY) the moon base!

How is Atlus mil--

Oh. Right. Erm. So Borderlands...

Really couldn't care less, to be honest. Despite owning both Borderlands 1 and 2, I've only played the first up to level 24 or so. It's a fun game, I appreciate the style of it and the execution and the overall quality, but when it comes to looting everything, I much prefer the fantasy settings of The Elder Scrolls and such. I don't care for guns in my everything.

Throughout the whole game, I was expecting the finale to build up to the moon base. It was always right there, you know? When you entered a new area, there was a big ol' 'H' just leering down, sometimes shooting at you. The game ended on a satisfying note, but I'd assumed they were foreshadowing the showdown. Maybe fight a giant robot with a giant cannon on the moon's surface or something, but it's nice players get to experience it now.

3 games and a lot of DLC isn't enough for it to be classified as milking yet.
10 games and a fuckload of DLC for half *COUGH* CoD * COUGH* is milking.

I mean, is this a different game from the Telltale one? Is it a full-fledged release? What platforms is it going to be released on? Is it a shooter? An adventure game? A turret defense? I really need some more information to be able to answer any of your questions. But sure, I love the Borderlands series, and if they're going to the moon base as teased at the end of the final story DLC of BL2, I'm all for it.

And yeah, 2 installments with lots of actually good DLC and one quasi-installment on the way isn't nearly enough to qualify as milking.

It's not like they're coming out with a new one every year.
They're milking it to the extent that Bethesda has milked Fallout: they hired an outside studio to make another one. Still, this fall is a bit fast. I haven't tried all the characters BL2 came with, much less the dlc characters.

It is a little disappointing we're not going to blow up that space station: I thought for sure there would be one more BL2 dlc where we assault that thing.

This looks like it could be an interesting game. Gearbox/2K has dropped the ball a few times, but Borderlands has been pretty solid. I am optimistic.

The part I'm interested in is the decision not to build it for the new consoles. I do not know how much more costly it is to make games for the new ones, but given all of the noises I have been hearing about games getting shorter and smaller because of the need to bling out what's there so as to actually make use of the heightened graphical capabilities, it is probably a lot.

I'm guessing that Pitchford was considering releasing on the new ones, but his accountant phoned him up in the middle of the night, saying he'd had a terrible and chillingly realistic nightmare about Gearbox dumping lots of money in to polishing up the shiny on a new Borderlands game. Then Randy stayed on the phone to reassure the poor fellow so he could get back to sleep, and in the process had the idea for a project that could use some existing reasources, add new gameplay elements, and hopefully not give his accountant nightmares.

Well they are not milking those udders dry like Ubisoft is doing with Assassins Creed, but Gearbox really should shake things up a bit, that Borderlands Cel shaded artstyle is starting to get real old, and from I can tell, the gameplay hasn't changed much either.

Wow Oxygen, Much change, So innovation!

Yes, it's a different game from the Telltale one, and yes, they are going to the moon base.

Personally I'm pretty stoked about it. I love the borderlands games. I have max level characters in both games, have played all the DLC and really liked most of it, and I can't wait to get a new borderlands with new characters and new mechanics. I'm also really happy that it's still going to be on Xbox 360 and PS3, because otherwise this would probably be a system seller for me (even though I really don't want to buy any of the new consoles yet).

I don't know.

Personally, I played half the DLC on Borderlands 1 and didn't even touched the DLC on Borderlands 2, so I am less burned out on the franchise as many people around here seems to be. 3 games in one 8 years generation is not milking out...

I have to say, I'm really liking the look of their early footage, and the chance to interact with Handsome Jack again (because you can really not get enough of him). And the two female classes as part of the core game! If you don't count Claptrap as a male, the female characters actually outnumber the male ones, which must be a first for a shooter title.

And it's made by 2k Australia, not the main guys. So we don't have to be too cautious about it being unfinished.

The whole milking the ip thing was a joke on them putting out this, the Telltale game and the Vita version this year. Also, I didn't say I disapproved. I love Borderlands(and Persona, all six games). I'm going to buy all three, probably preorder too.

They said it's just as much game as 1 or 2. And the moon setting and combat look fresh enough.

My biggest question is if the lawbringer is Sheriff Lynchwood.

According to what I read, yes she is. All of the characters are from previous encounters and games. Which makes me wonder what will happen to Athena. She rage-quit the Crimson Lance pretty hard when she realized how dirty they were. And as well all know, Jack is much much worse, so there's no way she keeps working for him, but she's also the only character who (unless I haven't reached that part in B2 yet) does not show up in Borderlands 2. So what happens to her at the end of this game? Does she die? Does she get fed up with Pandora and the corruption and just leaves the entire planet? I'm curious about that.

Otherwise, I have to say I'm not exactly jumping up and down with excitement. Prequels are really hard to do right in my book, because the tension is rarely there. You already know the fate of characters and how things turn out, so telling an engaging, gripping story is hard to do. And yes, I do play the Borderlands games for the story, not the loot. And the humor. Man do I love the humor.
Still, this should be fun. A new game my friends and I can play.

You always knew how Borderlands 2 was going to turn out. It wasn't going to end in any way other than the Vault Hunters being victorious and killing Jack. The ending however wasn't what was so great about the game, it was the entire story with all its twists, turns, cameos and characters. There's nothing to say that this game won't have the same kind of magic, even if you know that ultimately Jack wins at the end of it. It's not about the fact that Jack rises to power, but rather how it happens.

Unlike BL with all the DLC...
The Borderlands DLC is actually substantial, and good. You totally get your money's worth. In fact, I would say that Borderlands is one of the few game franchises that actually does DLC correctly.

Geez, its the second time I see this, its as if people dont know about the existence of games like Perfect Dark.

OT: This one is certainly milking, everything about it is exactly the same, other then lenght it could easily be DLC. The jump from 1 to 2 wasnt all that big but in this one there is no jump. A picture from 2 is the same as from this one

The DLC were good (although they could have wrapped things up a lot better like it was on the first game, way too many very small DLCs).
