EDIT2:
So they're not retiring Cap'n Crunch the Cereal, but rather the character.

It looks like they're going to try and re-brand it so that they don't advertise it to children, but to potheads and man children. Totally not a publicity stunt though.

Real men eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
I still see this as they're way of getting rid of the cereal, at least in the form its in current form. It will definitely go under a reformulating. But I'll rephrase the question. Will you support a rebranding (and possible reformulating) of Cap'n Crunch?

Could they just rejigg the mixture, so that it uses a sweetener or something?

You know, the (supposedly) same taste but with (supposedly) no health risk.

I personally hated it because it being too sweet, but its still sad to see it go.

Couldn't they just remove the sugar or redo the recipe?

really? retirement? no graceful promotion to Rear Admiral and a cushy desk job?

[small]holy crap, how am i the first to make that joke? ... in this thread, i mean.[/small]

seriously, though, i didn't get a chance to read the whole article in the link, but are they retiring all varieties, or just the basic Cap'n Crunch? 'cause it'd be a crying shame if they canceled Peanut Butter Crunch...

Hate to brake it to you, they haven't used anything but artificial sweeteners in any cereal product for at least 20 years now. Cap'n Crunch is almost pure corn if you trace all of its ingredients back.

OT: You know, as much as I think maybe it's for the best, I can usually let go of things from my childhood going away in a way that I can't here. Damnit all, I'm gonna miss that cereal.

No one cried for Sugar Smacks. They still have Honey Smacks, but they aren't the same damn it!

Even as a diabetic I could care less about reformulating it for its sugar content. Reformulate it so that it doesnt make the roof of your mouth look and feel like the remains of an interstate motorcycle accident.

But yes, there is no good reason to actually retire it. But the article doesnt exactly say its being retired, just that it is not being actively marketed. Hell Count Chocula hasnt exactly been marketed for the last 10 years or so and its still around.

Question is.. Whats going to step up and take its place as the top free toy inside every box cereal?

I blame Mayor Bloomberg and all his psychopathic rants on what food people should be allowed to eat and not.

Don't you love the government fascists who all tell us that we need to go eat artichokes, leaves, and tree bark while going and eating spare ribs and porterhouse steaks?

This is why America is failing. Not enough people want to kick governmental ass, flip them the bird, and tell them exactly where they can shove their stupid ass health food ideas.

I like sodium, it's good for you. I like sugar, it's good for you. I like red meat, it's good for you. I love polyunsaturated fats, they're not good for you. All these are good, in moderation, except the triglycerides, which are very tasty. Why do I need some damned politician who wouldn't know a legume from a deciduous fir tell me what I can and cannot eat?

NOOOOOOoooooo...eh.
I never really had that much of a fondness for the Cap'n, I was always a Coco Puffs man myself.

If they start comin' after my puffs though, it's on!

EDIT:
