seriously, though, i didn't get a chance to read the whole article in the link, but are they retiring all varieties, or just the basic Cap'n Crunch? 'cause it'd be a crying shame if they canceled Peanut Butter Crunch...

Wait, does this mean no more Peanut Butter Crunch? Those fiends!
From what I understand (cause the article is sorta vague when you read it all), it will include all versions or is made to sound like it.

Things like this dont provide confidence for sure:
<quote=dailyfinance.com>Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries is tied for first on Rudd's list of the least nutritional cereals marketed to children and families. Perhaps it's time for the good Cap'n to retire from the cereal navy to avoid walking the plank.

Sugar is not near as bad for you as that High Fructose Corn Syrup crap they toss in EVERYTHING. Tis made from genetically modified corn (which is also used as feed for cows/pigs to fatten them up faster), then further altered to increase your appetite and get you addicted to it. Why do you think whenever you eat a Girl Scout cookie (not sure if non-US folks know what I am talking about), you find yourself eating the whole bloody sleeve?

Could they just rejigg the mixture, so that it uses a sweetener or something?

You know, the (supposedly) same taste but with (supposedly) no health risk.
Hate to brake it to you, they haven't used anything but artificial sweeteners in any cereal product for at least 20 years now. Cap'n Crunch is almost pure corn if you trace all of its ingredients back.

OT: You know, as much as I think maybe it's for the best, I can usually let go of things from my childhood going away in a way that I can't here. Damnit all, I'm gonna miss that cereal.
I feel ya pain....*Cries* DAMMIT CAPN!!

I can only offer this as his farewell song

To the Cap'n

Whoo hoo! People are taking health over diabetes-inducing childhood nostalgia!

But to be less of a dick, its sad that its going away, but my heart will always be with Frosted Flakes.

you know what? FUCK PEOPLE. Captain Crunch doesn't make your tubby little bastard children fat. YOU DO. YOU, the parent who doesn't say "no". YOU, the parent that buys them every bit of junk food they ask for. YOU, the parent who doesn't say "get up off your fat little ass and play outside".
Captain Crunch CAN'T die. he CAN'T. guess what? if you think Captain Crunch is too unhealthy... BUY SOME DIFFERENT. FUCKING. CEREAL. and besides, how can a little kid eat SO MUCH Captain Crunch that it has a SERIOUS effect on their health (I'm talking enough to warrent a ban). you can get fat eating enough of ANYTHING. if I ate a burlap sack of broccoli for every meal and didn't exercise, I'd become a frigging tub. by this ass-backwards logic, all food to ever exist ever should be retired. if you eat enough, you get FAT.
CONGRATULATIONS YOU LAZY WHINING FUCKS.

EDIT: I just read that apparently they're retiring the character's ad campaign, so it isn't being ADVERTISED anymore. it will probably still be sold (it still sells well, and will continue to thanks to prizes). so as long as people keep buying it, it'll still be around. I haven't heard "crunch-a-tize me cap'n" in FOREVER, so the loss of commercials is no big deal

I blame Mayor Bloomberg and all his psychopathic rants on what food people should be allowed to eat and not.

Don't you love the government fascists who all tell us that we need to go eat artichokes, leaves, and tree bark while going and eating spare ribs and porterhouse steaks?

This is why America is failing. Not enough people want to kick governmental ass, flip them the bird, and tell them exactly where they can shove their stupid ass health food ideas.

I like sodium, it's good for you. I like sugar, it's good for you. I like red meat, it's good for you. I love polyunsaturated fats, they're not good for you. All these are good, in moderation, except the triglycerides, which are very tasty. Why do I need some damned politician who wouldn't know a legume from a deciduous fir tell me what I can and cannot eat?
polyunsaterated fat is good for you its the kind found in nuts
think you mean saturated fat(coconuts, animal fat)

GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!!! He was a part of all our breakfastes!

No longer shall we enjoy the delicious peanut butter! No longer will we get to savor the sweet crunch berries. NO LONGER WILL WE EVER CRUNCH at our breakfast tables!!!

But I know one thing that still crunches. The hearts of millions whom the Cap'n touched through his cereal and by God he'd want us all to remain strong!!

*Hehehe mellow dramatic much?*
