Quite honestly I feel Darksiders to be a God of War clone with the addition of storyline. And yes Bayonetta is Devil May Cry with sex appeal.

If I were to pick one, it would be easy. Bayonetta hands down. The real difference to me being Bayonetta never intends for you to take it seriously. I mean lollipops for health, and she wears her hair... Thats all I need for that.

Darkstalkers of War... er God of Darkst..no wait... Darkstalkers.. there thats it, is a great game all in all. It's fun, and unlike God of War, actually has a storyline... I am only about halfway through, but I do find myself a little curious as to where its going.

Hope that helps the possible purchaser who was debating.

Im not even sure if I am on topic at this point....

Hurm...

Next time I'm at the game store, I'm sure touching and smelling the case will be the final nail in the coffin, and I'll fork over sixty bucks for it on the spot.

Bayonetta >, easily the best hack and slash game I have ever played.

Darksiders takes good concepts from great games to make a good game, not a great game.

I'll pick it up this weekend if I have a chance.

I'm also thinking about renting Bayonetta soon.

At times like these, I'm glad I have GameFly :D

Though I really don't know what Darksiders is, what exactly do you do in the game? I'm a little confused as to how exactly you play and how you level up or if you level up at all. Can anyone summarize what it is?

It's a great game, but I've been a long standing fan of the Four Horsemen and so I find myself unable to play the game out of a sort of envious dissapointment that somebody went and made something cool with them... and it wasn't me. Hrmph, I'm going to play Dragon Age again, I'll see you all in a week.

Id say it plays alot like zelda, you dont really level up altho your sword does, you find or buy alot of items and can get more health containers and magic power, you get souls from enemies that you use for currency but you find your best items from dungeons. Its got executions but they arnt the complicated ones of dow, its a single button kill which suits me just fine, means I get to enjoy the kill instead of having to be ready to press a random button so Im not paying attention to the kill but the button.

I've been busily hacking and slashing my way through the combined legions of Heaven and Hell for a number of hours now, and I find myself enjoying the game most of the time. Usually right up until I find myself faced with a chasm-jump of some variety where the developers seem to think there should only be one way to cross the inexplicable bottomless pit of death, doom and estruction, woe unto any who try to hop the hole in another manner. I am speaking, of course, of the irritating habbit the game has of ignoring arial dash and "glidey shadow wings" inputs when you're trying to jump acros certain gaps.
While this is hardly the most game-breaking bug to ever hit a console, I find it is becoming enough of an issue to make start to really, really hate the puzzle sections. What are the thoughts of my fellow Escapee's on this game and it's labrythnine control mapping and tasty eye candy?
I'm really thinking about picking it up this weekend. I usually don't buy games full-price unless I really like the developer and I'm sure it'll be good, but something about this game makes me want to. I usually have good instincts on this kind of thing.

It's less of a Four Horseman game, and more of a "War got suckered" game. Lots and lots of Lisence was taken with the FOur Horsemen of the Apocolypse concept.

It's one of those Action-Adventure games with puzzle elements and lots and lots of fairly intense fighting. No quicktime events yet (yay!) as monster fatalities tend to be one-button affairs once available. Music is good, sound is good, eye candy is plentiful, and the Voice Actors actually managed to say Samael's name correctly, so bukoo bonus points there.

I was going to buy it yesterday with Bayonetta, but the guy at gamestop said it was really glitchy.

Is it worth the 60 dollars?

I'm thinking of getting it, playing as War sounds pretty awesome. I entered a competition with EB so I'll wait 'till the 14th to see if I won and maybe check out some reviews.

OK, my 2 cents. Sorry for the long post, but I hope you find it useful.

Every now and then I like to share my knowledge and opinions seeing as I have almost 30 years of video game experience. So a quick ?review? from a fellow gamer.

First off, Darksiders vs. Bayonetta:

The game are vaguely similar, the question is, do you want slightly watered down combat with a splash of Zelda, or do you want a deep combo system more like Devil may cry? I have both games and both are good. It you want more RPG elements go for Darksiders, if you want a deeper combat system go for Bayonetta.

Darksiders, the good:

I will say that Darksiders has blended a few different clones of popular games and made a very fun game. Probably it biggest success is cloning Zelda. The find an item/use it to complete a dungeon is done well. The dungeons are all pretty unique and well thought out. The enemies are the same. Very good art style thought the whole game. The combat is on par with DMC4 (IMHO, Bayonetta has better combat). I?ve put about 11 hours into it and I am still having fun. With the collection of new gear and weapons, the game stays fresh. And the puzzles in the dungeons are actually good. There have been a couple where I have had to think for a second and I like that. Oh, and the horse is badass.

The Bad:

I would not call the game glitchy. Fable 2 was glitchy, this is not. You will see some issues with frame rate (360 version, although I heard a review that said 360 version performs much better than PS3). I have come across the issue the OP was talking about, but the game does not really penalize you for falling. The story is good, but for a game with heavy RPG elements, there could be more of it. The story (so far) is quite simple and a little underplayed. It is kinda like the story is there just to get you to the dungeons. I?m not saying it is poorly done, just that they have a lot of potential and virgin territory with the whole 4-horsemen thing.
My biggest gripe is pacing/difficulty curve. The game is trying to mix Zelda dungeon crawling with DMC action and it is struggling to do it. You can go 20 minutes without having to use your weapon, and then you are hit with 20 minutes of non-stop fighting. It just kinda throws things off a little bit. Also, the difficulty curve look like a graph of Lindsy Lohan?s time in rehab. It is all over the place. Some of the boss fights are pretty hard and some of the larger minions are damn hard, then you have the lackeys that are cake. Couple this with a dodge move that is a little wonky and you have some weirdness in the difficulty. Then you get your horse, and that makes the open areas a cakewalk.

So in general, Darksiders is cloning a bunch of different games (Zelda, DMC, Portal, and Shadow of Colossus) and as a result, each of those elements is not quiet as good as the original, but the combination of all of them, it pretty damn cool.

Also, has anybody else found the zombie with the top hat? What the hell is that about?

Evidently close similarities qualify as "Clones" these days.

I'll be among the first to admit that there are a lot of repetitive ideas in gaming these days (dear god, the Nazis and Zombies), but Darksiders is a Hack and Slash done right... mostly. There's some timing issues I have with the game, but they're more of personal quibbles than any game-breaking flaws.
