"Clears Throat" Now this is just my own personal interpretation but waaay back in the 90´s when deadpool had is first ongoing written by Joe Kelly he was a more wellrounded characther with motivations and flaws, the whole shebang.
The old deadpool was the embodiment of the sad clown trope in the marvel universe. The outsider among the outsiders.

While their was still alot of popculture references, they was usually handled alot better by more competent writers, sneaking in clever quips and homages to those who payed attention
It was always kept kind of ambigious whether dp really was insane of if it was his coping mechanism to handle all he crap he had been through.

The new Deadpool written by Daniel Way is a walking meme machine.
He is behind the 2 voices in his head (with no explanation whatsoever besides DEADPOLSCRAZYLOL)
Also the "Pool O vision" which is as stupid as it sounds.

It irritates my inner nerd that it is this version that became so popular.
So whenever i say i'm a deadpool fan it pretty much makes me look like a fan of poopoo jokes and cat memes.
And if i say i liked dp before he was popular i sound like a massive hipster.

OT:Still probably gonna pickup the game once it goes cheap, the trailer smells bargain bin.

The actual game looks like a lot of fun, quite similar to Matt Hazard; I'm actually surprised they got away with making a game this weird for the mainstream market.

On the downside, the writing sounds fucking atrocious, a lot of the Deadpool charm seems to have been replaced with weak and predictable gags (the dubstep thing was kind of funny when Borderlands 2 did it, now it's just played out).

Still, looks like it'll be worth a playthrough, I'll wait to see how it reviews.

I don't know anything about Deadpool's comic persona or his comics in general, so speaking as a non-comic fan I think this looks hysterical. I've seen some videos of random scenes that are in the game and they had me laughing. Yeah the gameplay doesn't look too impressive, but I'm willing to bet that in this instance, gameplay is not the primary reason fans are gonna get this game.

I'm with you on most of your statement; Joe Kelly kicked some fuckin' ass on that book and no writer has been able to recreate the complexity he brought to the character.

But! I have to stick up for Way a little bit here. Yeah, he focused more on the jokes and stuff but I think he did ok with the character. I'd argue that the Pool-O-Vision and the two voices were, again, his way of coping with what he'd been through. Like his previous behaviour had grown stale to him and that forced him to think about his past, etc. So he had to crowd his head a bit and the lines between "I'm doing this on purpose" and "I have a serious mental condition" become even more blurred for both him and the reader.

That seems harsh... Imo, he's the second best Deadpool writer.
I'd call him second worst. (Priest's run was flat out unreadable). Though I admit I didn't get very far into Way's run, maybe he got better.

I usually like what I see of Deadpool but that was fucking painful. Looks like videogame writers still can't do humour.
Except for the fact the game was written by Daniel way, a former Deadpool writer not a "Video game writer".
...Well. That's something. Did something happen or was he always this bad?
I think the key word here is "Editors".

Speaking as a Deadpool fan myself i love the jokes and quotes in the comics, however i gotta agree with you. The humor (from what I've seen so far) seems like something a Deadpool fan with no prior knowlegde to game pacing, sat down with a lot of energy drinks and started giggling.

I see what your getting at, but putting Way as nr2 is still a stretch, with great candidates as R.Remender and Fabian Niecjdksa.

I could honestly tolerate a more campy dp as it is now, Kinda like the old 60´s Batman.
Maybe if it was a side series in a separate continuity.

Also for writting a total of 50+ comics he really didn't get much done in terms of characther development.
It was pretty much "Deadpool goes somewhere and crazy stuff happens".

I won't go into detail since i don't think this is the right thread for this discussion.

So i will just agree to disagree.

You know as a Deadpool fan I am still excited fro this game. Sure the comedy feels a bit forced in the trailer and is a bit cringe worthy, but I saw some extra footage that actually did make me laugh. Gameplay looks a bit cliche but we'll see in reviews.
Though I was still hoping for that one Deadpool from Hulk vs Wolverine that had perfect pacing when it came to the jokes and that AWLAYS made me laugh every time he got the screen time.
Basically this one:

Unfortunately there are better games out there atm. So Wade will have to wait a bit while I play The Last of Us several hundred times before I even consider buying a copy of this game.

According to PCGamer [http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/06/25/deadpool-game-release/], High Moon's Deadpool game launches tomorrow. There's a new trailer with (what I assume) some gameplay)

Note: If you have a hatred for the words "Guess" "Assume" and "Think", don't look here.
This is supposed to be ironic I guess.
Now I'm assuming that most of the humor in this game will be parodies(Or worse, references) of other games and trailers and whatnot. I also noticed Wolverine being jabbed at a lot. But screw that, let's talk gameplay. It's going to be a third person over the shoulder shooter(like the transformer's game), with some levels breaking the pattern(The "Ooh I love 8 bit levels" looks like it's going to be a 2d sidescrolling level). Aaand that's about all I can guess assume and think.

Thoughts?

Again, this game is releasing tomorrow. I have no clue why they withheld so much information until now.
I will pick it up in the bargain bin. It just doesn't look good enough to warrant a day one purchase. It seems like a solid little weekend funfest, but that is about it.
Agreed, it looks alright and might have a few good laughs but I am always suspect of a game that has been held in such secrecy. If this game was going to be great they would have had a large presence at E3 and maybe some good buzz from various game media outlets.

I love like the first 40 (?) issues of Deadpool's comic, but after that it kinda went downhill. The writer changed and old themes and side-characters were abandoned.
It just lost a lot of heart and complexity.

It's impossible to tell from this trailer if it's any good or not. I'm not holding my breath, though.
I think Deadpool was depicted okay in Marvel vs Capcom, though.

Friend of mine bought it today on Steam and I'm currently watching him play through it and it looks like a great game for some laughs so I'm going to be buying this for myself next week for some decent fun.

Been a long time since I've seen a game this funny with a super hero and looks like a decent game from High Moon since I enjoyed replaying War and Fall of Cybertron.

Meh... from what I have seen, it seems like the typical licensed game from Activision: barely competent and overall inconsequential. The writing is pretty awful (but I was never a fan of Deadpool writing to begin with, so...), the action looks sloppy and unfinished, and it just feels like overall the character tries too hard.

The game is a perfect example of a bargain bin game. Far less competent than all the games it takes "inspiration" from. If you are a fan of the character, you might enjoy it, but otherwise it doesn't look like a good purchase.

I've been watching some of the early reviews and it looks like this is pulling in between 6 to 8 point/star/whateverthehell range. Lot of reviewers stating that the comedy is the strong point of the game- jus so long as you aren't expecting highbrow humor (and really, if you were expecting highbrow humor from Deadpool, then I'm sorry to say, but you fell out of your own dimension). Gameplay is solid albeit tedious, and looks like although it's a solid 8-10 hours of gameplay, there isn't much replay value.

My own opinion on the game and the character. Back when I was reading Marvel comics (largely before Quesada became EIC and Bendis started writing like 2/3rds of all the goddamn books (my nostalgia lenses may be a shade of bitter)), I loved Deadpool through the Joe Kelly run, and left the series and Marvel entirely around the House of M crossover. I haven't kept up on things, but considering how ol' Wade seems to be the figurehead superhero of the Cheezburger Network, that pretty much tells me they've given up on even attempting making him a tragic, flawed character hanging onto his sanity by just a thread, and instead just made him the jabbering jester of the House of Ideas. Please, correct me if I'm wrong in coming to this conclusion.

I'm certain this game does come with its own charm, but all the while, having expressed my existing feelings of Deadpool, while it may be the greatest game ever, I worry I would appreciate it less. Kind of like reuniting with an old firend from back in high school, and finding out in the meantime they've become a flake of their former, badass self.

All the same, I was thinking of picking this game up, but considering the reviews thus far, and the people who made this game aren't even at High Moon any longer (good jorb thar, Activision! Keep it classy!), I'm probably gonna wait until this hits the $10-$15 range.

Oh nice, Cyrus's voice is in Wolverine. Also, the last part with the gun made me laugh. Nothing else besides that, though.

Looks like it's about as self-aware as Lollipop Chainsaw, with the same sort of silly, over-the-top stupid humor.

Kinda hoped it'd be more focused on melee brawling than third-person shooting, but I don't have any complaints about the gameplay from High Moon's Transformers games so I'd probably still like it. Yeah, I'll probably check it out. Doesn't look like it's some mind-bendingly great title, but hopefully the ridiculousness will give it enough personality to save potentially average gameplay and landscapes.

He was a Deathstroke ripoff.
That's it. Rob Liefeld admitted that he made him so he could draw Deathstroke. The only unique thing was that he had yellow speech boxes. Thats it.
And I suppose you missed the arc where we learn that Deadpool is a friendless loser who wants to kill himself.
Really.
