*peers in nervously before darting up to the microphone*

So...is anyone excited?

I know I'm just asking for a wave of the usual jaded, cynical folk to cover every inch of this post in mud, but I'm actually looking forward to this a good deal.

The changes they've made seemed to have alleviated everything I disliked about the PC version (never played, just read/saw/heard a lot about), like the removal of the online requirement and the real money auction house. These are real genuine improvements and I both praise Blizzard (or whoever made the decision), and sympathize with PC players, as they should have had this as well.

These games can work tremendously well in a console setting. I've played the original Diablo, Both Champions of Norrath games, and both Dark Alliance games and they've all been an absolute blast. I'll be the first to concede that for some types of games, namely shooters, a mouse is going to be far superior. More speed and more accuracy. S'just how things be.
However I've always personally enjoyed 'dungeon crawlers' or ARPG's the most on consoles.
Saying this as someone who has far too many fucking characters on Torchlight 2 with over 200 hours racked, having beaten Titan Quest on normal with one character(working on the rest!), and chronically plays Path of Exile. M&KB in these games are fun, and have their own proficiencies and drawbacks.

I can't quite describe it, as I'm sure fellow seasoned PC ARPG'ers will say the same for their experience, but when I'm actually in control of my character in these games, it gives everything a much more impactful feel. It's weightier, and feels more purposeful, and I find it in general to be much more involving as a whole.

I'm looking forward to getting back to this in D3. I do know the game has been streamlined from D2, and I have my reasons why I'm mostly okay with it, but they aren't important and I shan't bring them up here.

Anywho, here's some info about some of the things they changed.

(Yes, that announcer is absolutely AWFUL but just try to ignore him if you can.)

I can honestly say I would have minded keeping the old inventory system with a moveable highlight box, as it worked fine in Diablo 1 and ever other console ARPG Ive played, but it makes for fast and easy selection and I can take the loss of an inventory screen because I GET MY PAPERDOLL BACK. : D
Seriously, that made my heart jump. Visual manifestations of progression are important in any type of RPG, but I've always felt it was never more so in these types of games. Aside from the obvious armor upgrade and maybe some stat bonuses, what's the point of making really great looking equipment if I can't see it up close and in wonderful detail?

They also added potions back. I could take this or leave it. I liked the idea of the orbs in the PC version since it eliminated the busy work of loading up half your inventory with potions near the end of the game. I remember literally filling up my inventory in Diablo 1 just to survive a wave of Snow Witches or Blood Knights. 30 + potions used up in 15 - 20 seconds. Haha.
But regardless I'm not slanted any particular way about the reintroduction of the potions. They both have their ups and downs.

Being able to equip things on the fly is fun, and I probably wouldn't use it if not for the lack of a more tangible inventory screen.

And of course, couch co-op inclusion is just awesome. I love that a few more games today are deciding it's worth the time and effort.

So there it is then I suppose. I'm fairly happy about this coming to consoles.
Are you?
Why so or why not?
Do you like/dislike the console changes & additions?
Do you feel these games can work on a controller setup, or not?
General Diablo discussion?
: D

Local 4 player co-op looks like it will be fun for those who like that sort of thing, too bad they can't really do anything about the terrible storyline though.

It kinda looks like the old Champions games. I approve. Heavily.

Still, I'll wait for reviews and a price drop before I get it.

Couldn't agree more about top-down/isometric action rpgs feeling "better" with a controller. I played all the games you mentioned pretty obsessively as well, and it really frustrated me when a) those sorts of games completely dried up on consoles and b) the PC equivalents were stuck on mouse + keyboard. I understand Diablo was the forerunner, but it was hard to go back to the floaty, detached sensation of m+k after experiencing the more direct sensation of a controller.

As for D3 specifically, mostly more agreement with the OP. I logged a few hundred hours on the PC version, and it was obvious from the start that the AH completely and irreparably destroyed the lasting appeal of the series. The inability to play offline was also inexcusable. I was actually in favor of the "health orbs" versus potions because I've never enjoyed quaffing pots nonstop in order to power through encounters, so that might be a change for the worse.

Regardless, I've a friend who enjoys cooperative play immensely and totally missed D3, so I might buy it for the couch co-op alone. Hopefully they take the time to spruce up the graphics a bit as well, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Semi-related note: I really disliked the aesthetic shift from D2 to D3. The game is a lot more cartoony now.

Edit: read about the changes. Dodge function? I'm fucking sold.

I was really surprised the relative lengths they went to make it feel and work well as a console title. It really kind of feels like it was built from the ground up for it.
Wish console devs could show a bit of the same courtesy when they port to PC.

I'd actually pay money to change the PC version into the console version, complete with no AH, offline play, local co-op, and full controller support.

You and me both. I waited with bated breath for it to be released, only to see the 'only online' requirement which ruined it for me. I really only played Diablo 2 offline.

Honestly, it looks like the console version is what the PC version should have been...except they're still keeping the PC version the same.

Sigh.

It's a shame, really, that Blizzard had the chance to make this game truly great. The gameplay mechanics are solid; it plays smooth, the combat is visceral, but they ruined it with other mechanics.

Oh well, back to playing Path of Exile. Also, I need more friends on PoE...

I'm the complete opposite; the "clean slate" of the console version is one of its most appealing features. The way I see it, my PC characters (whom I haven't played in months) are more or less "complete". They've got great gear. They've beaten the game umpteen times. There's nothing left for them to do. The console version will offer me a fresh start with a new feel and a completely revamped loot system that will allow me to progress without farming the AH (like every single person who played D3 on PC was eventually forced to do).

Were you going for level 100 on each of them though?

I wish they'd port that version to the PC, then I'd actually consider playing it...

Even without the DRM and RMAH its only just above mediocre. Diablo 2, Torchlight 2, Titan Quest, etc, they're all as good as if not better than Diablo 3. Way too easy on lower difficulties and unfair on higher ones, boring skill system, boring loot, disappionting boss fights, a few UI issues (which they may have fixed by now), no real PvP...

Honestly, even with the removal of DRM and RMAH I'm having a hard time recommending it for 60 bucks. This has nothing to do with me being jaded or cynical, OP, the game just isn't all that great.
why does everything have to have PvP, some of the best games ever made were single player or co-op and had no need of PvP

The only change I care about is the new loot system and the elimination of the auction house. The reason Diablo 3 died to me was because the only reason to do multiple playthroughs of a dungeon crawler is to get better items, but theres no reason to do that if you can just buy the best items in the game from other players. The fact that you won't be able to do that anymore and the fact that you will be more likely to get decent loot drops, means that my one big complaint with the game is now resolved. I'm just a little mad they didn't do this for PC. Blizzard, I will have your babies if you bring these changes to the PC version too, with a giant patch or something.

One thing though. The ability to dodge out of the way...wasn't that one of the skills the demon hunter had? I mean I know her ability also added a stun affect and shit like that, but the skill seems a little irrelevant now, if she is able to jump out of the way without using any skills

Y'know, it's coming out for the 360 as well.

Anywho, I skipped the PC version because of obvious reasons, but I'm certainly going to pick up the console version.

The big selling point for me (as I am sure it is with many others) is that I have a lot of non-PC gamer friends who would love to play a 4-player co-op ARPG. If it didn't have that angle I probably would just go back to playing Torchlight.

Let me join your crowd as well.

I'm unsure of how I should proceed, I practically threw off Blizzard (or Activision-Blizzard) cause I hated that they were trying to force people to be online (among other things).

Do I buy it now to show them that I'm willing to buy things that taylor to my needs? Or should I continue my "boycott" until they actually respond to fans?

If I do buy it though, I doubt I'm gonna pay full price for it. Sounds too easy.
