The thing about Bioware is that people will buy the game anyway, and it'll be good, and be rated well (outside of user ratings of course). We'll still get a bunch of threads about how they've sold out and they're corrupted by EA and no one will ever buy anything they make again, and then the same thing will happen with the next game.
It definitely says a lot about the audience.
Before ME3 came out, I'd say that would be the norm. However, in light of all the controversy they've courted over the last year, I'm not so sure. There are quite a few stories from people who blindly bought the game after loving the first two, and were immensely disappointed, to the point that they will second-guess any future decisions about new games from the developer.
I agree with Mark - there's a fair share of the hardcore fanbase that has already been marginalized and disenfranchised as a result of being lied to over and over again by a company they had complete faith in. That's enough to shake even the most ardent fanboys from their love of a series. The real gauge will be Bioware's next release, whether it's DAIII, the ME3 DLC or this Ultima revival they're trying to get off the ground. I could see BW transitioning into a clearing house for older franchises to get another chance (i.e. get that money).
