So Dungeon Fighter Online is closing, and that makes me sad. Any similar games I might enjoy?

As the topic title says Nexon is no longer going to bring DFO to America.
For those who don't know DFO was a F2P MMO, but what set it apart from the billion other Korean F2Ps was its gameplay. It was a side scrolling beat-em-up but with items, classes and a RPG skill system. Some Vids for reference:

While there is nothing I can do about DFO's closing, I come to the escapist to ask: Are there any similar games that I might enjoy? I always loved DFO because I had never played anything like it, but there must be something out there that I just haven't found yet.
Failing that, if you are one of the five people who actually played DFO come in and reminisce about the good times you had, always nice to talk to a fellow player.
EDIT: to be more clear, it doesn't need to be an MMO, just a really good beat-em-up in a similar gameplay style, preferably with some RPG mechanics.

Ah. Yes, that. I really really wanted Rusty hearts to be "DFO without the shit publisher problem" but me and a buddy put a fair number of hours into and came away disappointed. While there was a long list of issues, one of the biggest was that after something like twelve hours of playing we still had yet to encounter a level that was even slightly challenging.

Quite frankly, I never even thought someone else on these forums might know about DFO. I never played it for longer than a couple of months at a time, but I still found it's concept of a arcade-like beat-em-up mixed with an RPG to be fairly enjoyable (though the possibly halfway decent plot sort of helped). I'd also have to agree with you on the fact that it had a good soundtrack, with my favourite songs being some of the ones from Antwer Canyon.

As to the topic of things similar to DFO, I can't be of much help, since I don't really keep tabs on the beat-em-up or MMO worlds of gaming. It's just nice to know that someone else knew about DFO.


P.S.- To anyone who actually played it, what class was your favourite to play? My personal favourites were the Battlemage (thought I wasn't super good with her) and the Weapon Master (though I was terrible with him).

So far, I'm actually a bit disappointed with Warcry in that respect, with it being billed as a website meant to "Find the perfect MMO for you." The closest function I've seen to that is categories, which are pretty bare-bones right now, although I'm hoping that this is because the site just launched, and will get better about this in the future.

On topic, apart from Rusty Hearts the closest MMO I can think of to DFO is another Nexon game, Dragon's Nest. I played it a while back while it was in open beta, and I thought the combat was pretty fun, although it's pretty different from DFO, being 3D and whatnot, and is a bit more slow-paced. There's also Dynasty Warriors Online, which everyone should totally join because I think I'd like that game a lot more if there were more new players coming in.

You said it didn't need to be online, which I thought made it easier, yet for some reason I can't think of anything right now. All that comes to mind when I try to think "classic beat-em-up with RPG elements" is River City Ransom. So play River City Ransom, I guess, that game's pretty fun.

Well I can't find many with that old school art style but there is Dragon Saga and Elsword they play a bit more like DFO and have an ok system. the only problem i found is Elsword has a stamina system which bugs me. I don't remember much about Dragon Saga, so I'm checking it out again

If it doesnt have to be an mmo then Streets of Rage Remake for the pc is amazing. It is all three beat em ups in one with many new additions. I give it a 10 out of 10.

You could always try out the recently released DnD Capcom brawlers. They won't offer the same length of play, I'm sure, but they're definitely side scrolling brawlers with (lite, in this case) RPG elements. There's also Dragon's Crown I suppose.
