Hey guys!

I was making my way back from the coffee shop today when I noticed a lot of EA stuff around campus, signs and what-have-you just saying EA. Near my halls of residence is a large conference center, and inside it today are loads of stands with consoles in them, playing a bunch of games. I counted about 40(ish) of them, and EA people waving everybody into the hall to come play them.

I'm definatley not going to complain about 40 booths with the latest EA games setting up practically on my doorstep, but i've never heard of this happening before? Have EA always been doing this or is it a new thing?

How crazy. I've never heard of that, especially not in England. I wonder if they'll come here to my uni (Brunel, West London). Saying that there are no EA games that I am particularly hyped for...

What were they doing? Answering questions and stuff?

They're getting people to sit down and play the games free, it's very.. unexpected 0_o

EDIT: Strike the music, that's coming from the bar lol!

It's pretty standard recruitment/advertisement as far as I can tell. Over here in the States that kind of thing happens regularly.

Maybe, it's just a bit unusual here in England lol xD

Wooo, I hope they come up here to Leeds. Especially since I want to get into the industry anyway, and this seems like some sort of marketing for people to work in the UK videogame industry, especially given the recent comments about the industry and UK universities, not to mention the usual influx of various seminars/career fairs and so on that take place at most UK universities around now...

The EA thing sounds pretty cool. But I'm going to go totally off-topic and ask you about Brunel, since I'm being shipped off to Uni next summer. What's it like there? I missed the Open Day but really like the look of their History course so I'm just grabbing the oppertunity to ask someone who goes there what it's like.

Sod the Uni's lol what about the colleges?? We're studying Games Development Level 3 in Newcastle, and yes we've had spokes people from UBi Soft and possibly once from EA ... But why not let US try new games. We have rights too, just because we're not in Uni doesnt mean we dont want to play too.

Maybe because universities are residential where as colleges function more like a high school? You'll find people with more free time to try out the stuff at a university :)
(After asking a roommate, apparently this uni does actually do animation and coding degrees, I never knew! lol)

There were a few America's Army demos at my old Uni.

Nothing like trying to recruit people through video games.

Brunel is AWESOME! I didn't go there but a friend of mine did and I've hung out at campus a few times, she loves it there too. It's a huge place and a good mix of people, much better than the shithole I went to uni.

OT: My uni never had anything good :(

Actually with our College, and a few others my mates have gone to, its nothing like a highscool. We get free periods, days off and lots more just as a Uni would get. High school you rarely get that and your limited with free periods. I should know, i've tried both 6form and college. And the teachers could easily arrage a week were students can interact with these sorts of activities.

That's a pretty standard marketing move. I've never heard of EA specifically doing it, but plenty of gaming companies do every now and then.

(Though it kind of pisses me off that you're halfway around the world and you get demos at your uni, whereas mine is in the same municipality as EA's second-largest branch in the world and we get jack shit. I wanna try Medal of Honor, dammit.)

You misunderstand me, I know almost all colleges have free periods and half-days/days off. I'm saying that you don't usually live at your college, like high school. You go there, learn, go home rather than living on campus. :)

Is it strange that when I read the title, I imagined a giant walking EA logo wearing lots of gold jewellery sort of walking into your university and saying "'Sup"?

I've never seen this at a Uni before, but I have seen EA booths at music festivals and other events. Got to try out Brutal Legend at Download 09 and Rock Band at Leeds 08. Good times.

Cool, it's nice to have a view on the place that's from someone other than the prospectus.I'll definately be applying there then.
