People and I have disagreed with things before. I'll believe if it's good or not when I see it with my own two eyes.

Uh, what? That's a really weird compliment, but okay. It doesn't help that people are getting "teary eyed with nostalgia." This doesn't really endear me to the film, since it makes it sound like fluff. We'll see. Hopefully it will turn out good, but I absolutely refuse to get my hopes up for another Star Wars film. Better then the prequels isn't good enough. It needs to be good on its own merits, independent of the other films.

Reviewers telling us a J.J. Abrams film is a classic?

Question about the Movie Bob review of it. At the end, he mentions "a better director working on the next installment, and they've pretty much got that locked in place already." And flashes up a stillshot of some guy. Who is that guy? I don't recognize him, but I'd like to know what director he was referring to.
Looks like your question has already been answered though I don't know why Bob is so excited about Rian Johnson. Even if his three films were good, that doesn't automatically mean he can keep being good and he's untested as far as major franchises go.

Similar circumstances with the director they have for episode IX Colin Trevorrow [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Trevorrow], except he did Jurassic World so....

I will say after reading Bob's review, J. J. Abrams was a perfect choice to direct The Force Awakens, considering he's probably the best at retreading old plotlines.

Sounds too good to be true, so anyone who've seen it tell me, is the girl jedi in this film is an actual good character or her only character attribute is being a girl? You are my only hope.
Well, she's going to please a lot of people, simply on the grounds of being The Girl That Can.

People go to her rescue, but she doesn't need to be rescued. They take her hand when running away from danger, and she yells "I know how to run! Don't take my hand!". She beats the crap of the guy that beats the crap out of another guy. She also bests Han at fixing/piloting the Falcon, and he's so impressed by that he offers her a position on the spot. In many ways she reminds of Lieutenant Mary Sue, "the youngest Lieutenant in the [Star Trek] fleet - only fifteen and a half years old".

You have that much to look forward to.

I'm too scared of reading the spoiler...
Basically she's the best at everything and beats every character - old and new - at what they do, much to everybody's impression.

The guy's done 3 Mission Impossible Movies, Super 8 and Alias.

If not necessarily great, he can put together a perfectly solid movie when needed and his films are always filled with gorgeous shots. It's just the writers he keeps allowing to get involved in his films that bugger everything up. Even Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg aren't immune to this, but Abrams seems particularly vulnerable to it.

I'm glad the reviews are positive, it means I can go an see it at the cinema over Christmas, hooray!

But do i dare to hope? Have to look how People react to it. I am not going to watch it just yet.
Most of his movies have been critically and publicly well received. He just pissed off some people with Star Trek, and those people were rather loud about it (not saying they didn't have a point, but I never cared for the originals). Also, since memes are so much fun, lot of people have gotten aboard the complain about lens flare train (though, he definitely overdoes it sometimes).

Finally, his movies all feel very safe. They're fun and well made, but they don't really wow you. Hopefully Starwars changes that, but I'll point out, if you really want to look at the critics, his first Star Trek movie had slightly better ratings.

Oh... Okay... Well, then I see it next year in January... I still got the rest of the Machete order to deal with and I'm choosing to watch one movie per week before 2016 begins like Batman...

Other than that, I don't know how I would feel about hearing lines heard in the previous films, thought... even if it is a trap, Leia...

...so we have ANOTHER "most powerfullest force user we've ever seen in the history of everything and the one last hope for truth and justice"?

Awesome. I can barely contain my excitement to see this.

Well, that's getting a bit ahead of ourselves. But yes, Star Wars is basically reverse Dragon Ball Z: there's always a stronger, more The-One-ish good guy to fight.

It actually sounds a lot like the usual glossy, derivative Abrams crap.

Kyle Smith of The New York Post said:
The shamelessness with which Star Wars: The Force Awakens replays the franchise?s greatest hits is startling. To put it another way, it?s a satisfying meal ? but it?s $200 million worth of leftovers.
Andrew O said:
You can choose to understand The Force Awakens as an embrace of the mythological tradition, in which the same stories recur over and over with minor variations. Or you can see it as the ultimate retreat into formula.... There are moments when it feels like both of those things, profound and cynical, deeply satisfying and oddly empty.
And even the usually sycophantic industry rag isn't thrilled.

Variety said:
The reassuring familiarity of Abrams? approach has its limitations: Marvelous as it is to catch up with Han Solo, Leia and the rest of the gang, fan service takes priority here over a somewhat thin, derivative story that, despite the presence of two appealing new stars, doesn?t exactly fire the imagination anew.
That doesn't sound like universal acclaim, and it sounds to me like OP hasn't learned the lesson about how big money buys early coverage.

I am excited but worried. I wonder if Abrams is like Lucas, in the way that he can perform better when other people have control on the same level as him to keep him balanced. Because we already saw the havoc he can cause when alone and unrestricted.

So can anyone tell me anything about Finn's role in this film?
He's a stormtrooper that becomes disenchanted with the bad guys after he sees them slaughter a whole village and decides to defect over to the good guys. He's also a possible love interest to Rey.
I think I liked him the most out of anyone.

He's just this wimpy stormtrooper who fancies himself a hero, but is terribly ill equiped at being one.
That... doesn't sound too good. Especially given the marketing.

Having just seen the movie, I can attest that it is really good. It has everything you'd want from Star Wars. The action is good, the characters are solid, the fanservice is well executed and not too overdone. Obviously it's great to have Han back, but Finn and Rey were great on their own, and the Rebel pilot bloke stole every scene he was in.

Also, J.J. Abrams' attitude to marketing serves the film well. Compared to stuff like Marvel or Terminator Genysis which insist and throwing out loads of clues for fans to pore over or outright spoiling things, this movie kept a lot of things under wraps to their benefit.
