Super Mario Land: the bullets were fun and tricky, the water level and the flying level were a blast and way too short, the hopping guys in the last world were a pain in the ass and never died, and the first boss (the firebreathing "sphinx") made a hilarious yowling noise when you hit it with a bullet (it was like tying a cat with a Ben Stein monotone to a ceiling fan).

Some of them would be Rugrats, Hercules, Crash Bandicoot 2 and Tarzan, all on the PS1. Not really that much of an old school gamer. I did however have some REALLY old games from before I was born for PC though, but they were educational games, and Mum threw most of them out, so I can't remember them or find them. Plus I don't really own them, it's more my family.

So probably the oldest game our family owns is "Puzzlemania" or another thing like that for the PC since it' the only one I could find.

Commander Keen 1 on floppy disk? It's actually older than me just, so that's something I didn't know before... Released 1990 so pretty damn old!

I still play them from time to time too.
I have original boxed copies of every PC game Ensemble Studios ever produced/worked on. I am quite proud of my collection. :)

Good to see another fan.

On a shelf in my house is a copy of E.T. It shares space with a couple other 2600 games (Pitfall! is one of them, I think), but there's no system on which to play them.

If I still had my Atari 2600 around, I could have listed Tank Plus, aka Combat. The oldest game I can put my finger on as having an actual, physical copy would either be Pool of Radiance (the original, 1980's gold box one) or the original Reach For The Stars, the great grandpappy of 4X games.

Total Annihilation (1997), will it run on my current PC? Probably not.
You sir, have made my day. SOMEONE ELSE HAS THIS!

Actually, It played fine on win 7 with good specs. Now I just wonder how I played with such retarded unit AI. NO COMMANDER DON'T CURVE INTO THE BOMBERS D:

...The flying units were awesome.

I say physical copy because, PC and Console gamers alike both used to be sold in physical copies before digital distribution. Also so that emulator and digital version of old games wouldn't count. I want to know what is the Oldest ( even if you didn't own it when the game came out but you do now ) game in your library.

(Bonus points if someone still owns a game on floppy disks ).

I didn't get a PC until i was about 10 ( i am 23 now ) , so my oldest game is the original Lengend of zelda for the NES. And i still play it at least once every 2 years just because i find it great.

Your turn .
I've still got Zelda and Link's Adventure :)

But they are not in fact the oldest I own. I've got some SMS ones still around. But they also are not the oldest.

For you see, my Atari 2600 still works :)

Got plenty of old floppies for the PC (3.5", I'm not going to go completely off the rails on you about "back in my day"), most of those are warez from a family acquaintance who knew how to use .zip compression. Oldest legit copy from those days is the unexpected sequel, Battle Chess II: Chinese Chess, circa Interplay 1990. Now, being a twitchy little freak as most children are, learning the rules of a board game like xiangqi didn't seem as appealing as the demo levels of Commander Keen, so those were shelved pretty quick.

A few years back, got a boatload of old NES games from the untimely passing of an uncle. Several games I remember handing off to him when the thrill wore off for me. So, yeah, glad to have them back, still need to take the system to a nearby mom and pop game store specializing in console repairs to get some issues sorted out there. Lemme check on what's oldest from in there.

Tie between Metroid and Tetris, since I don't feel like looking up which came out X months before the other. So, 1987. There.
