For people that have played it, otherwise I don't think you'll understand this...

I'm at the Northern Cave in the last area of the game, there are stupidly annoying enemies that kill you in one hit, I'm confused as to where the hell I'm going etc. It seems like I'm basically screwed...

It honestly feels like I just wasted 30 hours of my life playing this otherwise amazing game.

If anybody can offer some advice who knows the game, it would be appreciated.

The ones where they one-hit kill if your level is a multiple of 4 (or was it 5)? Yeah, those suck when all your party come under that. Made me stop playing the game entirely.

Just do the old JRPG plan A: Leave, level up, return.
Agreed. I recommend the previous area OR if you are tough enough the crashed shinra plane at the bottom of the sea. Bring a lot of health and mana with you.

I'm around Level 55 or so, I'm using Cloud, Barret and Tifa.

I don't have Big Guard (?) which I keep seeing mentioned on FAQ's, it's my first time playing. My limit breaks are all at level 3 I believe.

Also, was surprised at the quick replies.

This is seriously making me almost upset, I've never reacted to a game this way before, but I feel somewhat betrayed now.

Quick! Escape! You can still quit the game and play something good! Like FF6!

HURRY!
LOL! I think I'll have had enough Final Fantasy for a very long time after this experience... Next on my pile are both Uncharted's so I think that will be a refreshing change.

So... I really have to resort to the grinding now? I'm trying not to >_<

yeah if i were you i would just go to gamefaqs.com and look up some guides there, you probably have to grind up just a bit, level 55 is a good level but maybe that extra oomph will help you out.

(i did lots of grinding and everything there was to do just about so i finished the game on level 73 i think? just fyi)

Unfortunately all the guides I've looked at don't help me (that's when you know you're fucked).

I guess I'll have to grind it out if I can't find another way, I was hoping to avoid that...

Those annoying enemies that use the "grudge" attack. Is there any good method to being able to get past them? I've read about the technique how the attack is actually a counter, but eventually he'll use a knife on you and one hit kill anyways, so what the shit?

I've never attempted so I wouldn't know, but is there a retreat/run option? I'd rather just avoid these little bastards completely so I can finish it. I don't care about your stupid treasure chests Cave...

I'm not 100% sure, but I think in FF8 you can retreat by pressing L1 and R1 or L2 and R2 at the same time. Maybe it also works in FF7, but that was too long ago for me to remember.

Blocking the insta-death attacks: Added Effect + Destruct materia combo in an armor, or equip someone with a Safety Bit (found in the great glacier area)

Everyone's Grudge: damages a character based on how many enemies that character has killed up to that point (damage = no. of kills * 10)

Hey, I just googled it and you were right.

Will try it later, if it works and I can skip past these battles you win the most awesome person of the day award.

Well Big Guard is an enemy skill you learn from an enemy called Beach Plug (I think that's it's name) which you find on the beach coast near Costa del Sol. You'll need the Manipulate materia to get it from them, it's worth it cause it comes in quite handy, as do a lot of the enemy skills, considering the enemy skill materia doesn't gimp your characters stats.

Double cut is also a handy materia for Cloud to have, as standard giving you 2 attacks in one, levelled up it gives you 4. That one can be found in the sunken gilnika airship if I remember right. (As has already been mentioned, this is a good place to level grind, and it has some interesting finds down there, just save often when you first go there, it can be occasionally unforgiving)

Other than that, only use materia that you need, and make sure you're using materia that boosts the stats for what you're doing with that character, all magic and summon materia gimp characters physically, especially the really powerful ones.

Lastly if you can stand the tedium of it, go to Gold Saucer and spend some time in the battle arena, there's a couple of handy things to be won, chiefly Clouds Ominislash limit break, it's kinda boring getting enough GP to be able to play that many battles in the arena but it's worth it. Also note the Enemy Skill materia will help you out alot here too.

All of that is just scratching the surface of what you can do with the game but I hope that's of some help to you :p

EDIT: One more thing, I presume you've picked up clouds Ultima Weapon, it's damage is based on how much health Cloud has left, not always the best weapon for him to be carrying, Ragnarok tends to be more useful while you find your characters are still getting pummelled :p

That last part is basically an endurance field, lots of enemies and 3 bossess, you need to make sure your well leveled and well stocked/equipped before even going in there. Then you'l breeze through it with.......relative ease

I don't think you need to. What you need is proper materia. I cleared my first game of 7 with the party at a 49-52 range, and even then, I only had to use one group later for the final bosses...but you'll find out about that later. xD

I suggest Deathblow, Slash All, and HP Plus materia, as well as multiple Cure materia. OH, and of course, you should have a few characters with their ultimate weapons and limit breaks, if not, you've been doing something horribly wrong. If you have Mime materia, and an effective summon that either heals you/removes status ailments, or does multiple bits of high level damage, then time it right and you have a chain of WIN! (This is where Bahamut blows, because while he does one BIG shot, its capped at 9999. Thus, multiple hits of 5555/etc are better.)

Feel free to ask anymore questions, as I am an FF7 MASTER.

Ribbon Accessory. If you don't have one, morph a tonnenberry (little dude in a hood with a knife and a lamp) he's in the same place as those guys.

IF they kill you in one shot you should use an e-skill which protects against that. I forgot what it was called now...
