It's popularity is more than justified - it's a magic game. And by that I mean it's brilliant. There are many popular games that don't deserve the acolades but FF7 does not fall into this category.

Some flaws ofcourse, but an amazing memorable experience the first few runs through and the gameplay still remains enjoyable (somewhat redundant though) to replay to date.

It was the game that put JRPG on my radar to begin with - it captured my attention in what was a genre I hadn't really noticed before. And that says something. It wasn't one particular element that grabbed me but their combination on a whole.

You're at the end of the game, so there should be Materia combinations available to counter pretty much any enemy, though you might want to just run from Tonberries unless you're using a party without many kills. Not worth the effort to bring them down otherwise.

One of the most broken endgame combinations is Phoenix/Revive-Final Attack, virtually guaranteeing your survival so long as you still have the MP to use it. Big Guard is always good.

This thread has angered me, what's with all the haters? FF7 IMO is the greatest FF, I love 6 but to say it was the last good FF is messed up. 8 and 10 were amazing and 10 has some of the best lvl grinding and combinations, also sphere grid kicks ass. 12 is also good but only started playing it recently. nostalgia makes people say retarded things...

Oh and if you cant beat FF7 your having a laugh, its definatly one of the easiest, make sure you beat ALL weapons before northern cave and sephiroth is a piece of piss.

For some reason, people can't accept that FF7 was a great game. Why is it so hard to say that BOTH 6 and 7 were great games without a giant pissing contest? If you're going to hate on a final fantasy, why not hate on the ones that deserve it as opposed to crapping on a game that deserves all of the praise that it has been given. I mean, you find a dozen people in every ff7 thread hating on it, but none of these people say a damn thing about how bad X-2 and XIII were. Give credit where credit is due, ff7 was great, and just because people like it more that YOUR personal favorite does not excuse you to shit on it. How about in the future just saying "you know what, I liked ff6 better, personal preference" as opposed to "ff6 is waaaaay better that ff7, you're all stupid for having an opinion!"

FWIW, I like 7 more than 6, but 6 is still one of my favorite games in the series. I just liked the materia system and I thought that Sephiroth was more compelling of a villain. Does that make 6 any worse? No, it just means that I prefer one over the other.

People can have opinions, and it is not anybody's job to police them because they are different than your own.
