uHHg! Ok, working on a way of substantiation. Of course there are details like how i was in a dark room, and the light was coming from behind him, but that is neither here nor there.

As for pics, Dont have any yet, but once the police release the open wound pic to me, I will be posting that as my avatar for social networking sites.

I WAS lucky... I even followed the officers suggestion and bought a couple lotto tickets, but none of them paid, guess my luck was spent for the day.

Again really not trying to focus on myself, would rather the discussion be on topic. But thank you guys none the less.

I call bullshit.

OT: I have actually had a real encounter with an attack. I was singled out and asked for money by a guy late one night, and then jumped when I refused. It's Winter here, and I was carrying this big-ass golf umbrella at the time, and I sufficiently dispatched him with a few strikes to the stomach, knee and back of the head.

My shooter skills helped me QUITE a bit when I decided to try out paintball. I walked on the field and was taking out pros on my first try. Paintball needs kill streaks though...

Like many here I would also like to know how you survived.

OT: It hasn't helped me in any noteworthy way yet but I'm sure my experience with Assassin's Creed could come in handy if I need to escape from a burning building or something.

Wow, you are one lucky bastard you know. Seriously, that must've been a helluva situation.

As for me, well, the closest thing I could think of is that I kinda got good at hiking and stuff, and it was easier for me to climb up hills, and mountains, and stuff like that with the help of platformers like Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, etc. Finding which rocks would support me well, balancing, and all kinds of stuff. Then again, it might not be related to gaming at all, but hey, it's the best I could come up with.

Baah! Fine ill derail my own thread :)

Clipped from local news report, Names and locations have been removed.

An dating.

More specific details. The bedroom was dark, and the only light source was from the living room window which was behind him. Again more details than I wanted to give. So now back on track, more skills learned from gaming please.

Removing the names and locations does nothing when all I had to do was copy and paste the first paragraph into Google to come up with full story, with your and your assailant's full name and location.

You might as well just post the link to the news article to quiet the doubters, seeing as you've already given too much precise information away to remain anonymous.

Sounds like you were lucky though, I'm glad it didn't turn out much worse.

Wow, you sure are one lucky bastard!

But skills I learned from gaming? I make sure to save regularly. Just in case I don't grind enough for an exam, and I'm totally under-levelled for that exam. That way, I can reload a previous save and search the tall grass for Wiki pages to defeat.

Oh yeah. Gaming taught you that if someone is shooting at you, you should find cover. Just like Half Life 2 taught me to stay away from trains.

Come on dude. It wasn't gaming, it was common sense. Sounds more like the guy was a just a terrible shot.

Yeah which is the exact reason why I didnt want to give details.
Well, if you want to completely edit out the news report in your post that is such a dead give-away, then I'll do the same in my post in which I quoted it.

Ive been contemplating how to approach making this post. I wont go into alot of the details on what happened because this isnt a post trying to get attention for what happened. I dont want this to be a post on the incident, more to the effect of the final question, What RL skills has gaming taught you?

At 10:30 am on friday morning Someone who I was at odds with entered my home with a pillow and a .38 caliber revolver and entered my room while i was asleep, and released 4 shots, One of which grazed my knee, another produced a non critical fleshwound on my forearm and two misses.

Now The reason I wrote this post is that I am somewhat surprised on how this went down. Im not a fan of shooters, but I have played several. My first natural instinct was to find cover. Secondly I held a blanket in front of me to obscure my body and reduce the chance of a critical hit, which worked.

I honestly think my years of gaming are what kept me from panic and gave me the instant reactionary problem solving skills for me to pinpoint what would be the closest form of cover as well as how to minimize the damage to get there.

So for discussion value, What skills has your gaming exp taught you?
...That is logic and instinct. Nothing to do with gaming. However I will say that I am glad that you escaped with your life.

If that's what people are like when they are at odds with you I'd be s*****g bricks if they really hated you. I want to know what happened to the guy because that story was interesting and cause I'm really nosy.

I don't know really. Always shut and lock doors behind you. Nothing I can really think of. I'd like to say picking locks as I'm always good at that in games but I can't. I'm clumsy in RL.
