"Oh god! A group of slightly different looking people, who dress differently from myself, are close to my house! What should I do!?"

That is just a rewording of what the OP said - the meaning is basically the same. And that is exactly how stupid it sounds in my head.

If you have a reason to be concerned, it's because of the number of people, not their category. Honestly, fear will get you nowhere. Assuming that the "field" behind your house isn't part of your property, I don't think you have any right to do anything until they, in an unlikely event, break the law.

And a good thing too, because if every time people moved in a large group near someone who thinks in such a discriminatory manner, that person said "oh god, I'd better call the cops", then the Police would be less likely to actually turn up when real crimes happen.

Well they only arrived yesterday so they haven't much time to do anything yet. But one of them did try to avoid paying in the Fish and Chip Shop which led to a huge argument and the police being called.

It's interesting that a real gypsy has joined the conversation. Do you resent the way people are discussing Gypsies?

Out of curiosity (although I'm sure I regret asking this...)

Several people have stated that they steal animals, what the fuck do they do with them?

Also, some advice, I've known several people (friends and family) who have had problems with gypsies.

1.Hide all your valuables inside, lock everything that can be locked, send stuff that cannot be kept inside to friends and relatives to hold on to. These people will steal anything.

2.Do not attempt to contact them, do not attempt to communicate them, ignore them.

3.They will try to con you out of your money, and try to guilt you into giving them stuff.

4.Notify the police, and keep an eye on them.

5.Be prepared to take matters into your own hands, these people can be dangerous.
Eat them, seems like the only use for pets, it's not like anyone is going to buy a 10 year old cat.

To all those who want an update on what they're doing apparently a group of 8 of them went into the Toby Carvery (pub/rubbish restaurant) while my brother was working there and did a runner on the bill for their meal

These are some classy people. Also to whomever was talking about his uncle and his guns and all that. In new york if you attack someone that breaks into your house its basically your fault and your getting sued. Also your probably going to prison depending on how badly you hurt the guy who broke into you house, isn't that grand?

So glad I decided to move to Pennsylvania (For many reasons but here's one)the law is you break into my house or come onto my property and I feel threatened I can shoot whomever it is dead and the police get a quick report and that's the end of it, they might even give you a pat on the back. Not much crime around here that's for sure. Hopefully the day never comes that I would have to do that but, its nice to know I can defend myself legally.

Yes. It takes a certain kind of person to run out on an £8 meal...

Also it would feel good to have the knowledge that if someone breaks into your home you can get away with anything.

That would be a bit weird but I did once receive PM from someone on this site (can't remember who) saying "awesome name. That is all"
That was weird and awesome.
That is very weird.

I get the best quotes though. Normally stupid people, which inspired me to create WROTD.
I do enjoy your WROTD.

OT: The gypsies got in a fight and knocked someone out today.
