If somebody were to do that with a loved series of mine, you know what I would do? Ignore it and cherish the memories that I have with the series that has already been made. You can choose to either accept the fact that things change, or whine about it on the internet. If they want to change Dante, they can. If they want to reboot it for a new audience, they can go ahead and do so.

Case and point, Spyro the Dragon. The original and the sequel were incredible. After they were sold from Insomniac, the games lost their charm. The same can be said for Crash Bandicoot and Naughty Dog.

Yeah all I've seen is people say they THINK this is what Capcom have said. I'm unsure as to whether it;s true or just the work of the rumour mill. If enough people say it eventually people will just take it as fact

It's being named as a prequil. Add that to the shock of white deveoping in his hair, presumably after dicovering that he is half demon. Since the white hair is a demonic trait. (Think of it as a really awesome puberty)

As for character. We know nothing about it. He's obviously not some whiny *****. He was basically nougying a demon with a lit cig. And if you say he's not a badass. Well I ask did you see him fight? I'd look like an emo if I could fight like that.

Characters do get to do this awesome thing that real life people tend to do... They develop. Their experiences contribute to who they are. He didn't pop outa his mum's unmentionables with a bowl cut white due and a red trench coat and start hitting on the nurses.

The character, from what we've seen. Is totally organic in his time line.

Hey I'm not saying I would have a problem if this was Dante so long as they pull it off well in terms of story. The main point of this thread was basically alternate theories drawn from the trailer. Like i said my immediate though was that he was a relation that had been named after him. I didnt want this to be somewhere where people could whine about it being different

I'm going to discount the wiki link for reasons you stated yourself but once again how in any way does the second link CONFIRM its the same Dante?? All it says is Dante is out for revenge! It could be a whole new Dante lol Also it mentions a relation, cementing my theory further

I've lived through Michael Bays Transformers and Joe Quesada deciding it would be better for Spider-Man to make a deal with the Devil than be married. I think I've been through the overhaul period and I just went on and loved the series I loved and never looked at the new stuff. I'm not saying that Dante doesn't mean anything to you, but he's not yours. He belongs to Capcom. Just like Transformers belongs to Hasbro and Spider-Man belongs to Disney. They can do what they want to with them.

People seem to forget that fact. Just because you like a character, hell you can have the character for a hero to emulate and seem more than just a fictional character, but at the end of the day the owners decide what to do with them and all we can do is go with the flow or ignore it and just remember the character as they were.

But the difference is that Devil May Cry has had a look that people generally see as awesome/badass. The consensus that I'm getting from the reactions is that I'm not alone in my tastes at all.

Most peaoples reactions on his "bad assed-ness" as youve put it are based on the fact that Dante doesnt look like Dante anymore. But my theory is that it isnt the same character. Capcom experimented with the last DMC trying to implement a new character. Ther made Nero a lot like Dante to ease the transition. This is the next step. I'm hopeful this is a new character that is also named Dante

I'm sorry if you thought it was in relation to you, but honestly that was the furthest thing from my mind. Why would they name him Dante then? They've made a new game developed by a new company with a new art aesthetic, but with the name "Devil May Cry" (not the lack of a number at the end denoting a sequel) and with a main character who happens to have the same name as the main character as the past series entries but looks radically different then that main character. These are all the qualities of a reboot, so we are probably right in assuming that it's a reboot.
