The series is being rebooted, how can you have the son of the main character as the protagonist in a reboot? That....doesn't seem very likely.

People just don't like the main character because he looks TOO different. You can't even tell that they're the same person. It'd be like if Paramount Pictures went with the Black Actor to play Peter Parker in the Spider Man reboot.

Personally, I don't like this new Dante because he looks like an fucking twig and I'm suppose to expect this guy to fight monsters? He looks like one of those guys who hangs around behind the school smoking pot.

Why would they name him Dante then? They've made a new game developed by a new company with a new art aesthetic, but with the name "Devil May Cry" (not the lack of a number at the end denoting a sequel) and with a main character who happens to have the same name as the main character as the past series entries but looks radically different then that main character. These are all the qualities of a reboot, so we are probably right in assuming that it's a reboot.
Why do you automatically think its a reboot? Maybe thats what Capcom want you to think so they can mindfuck you. Is it so hard to get to grips with the concept that two different people can have the same name? The whole underlying story behind DMC is the Sparda bloodline, or simply the idea of one big family. Why can't this new guy be a member of this family who is named after Dante?

Dante shows traits of his father Sparda when he unleashes his powers even going as far as to take his form. In the trailer this Dante shows a flash of the old Dante... could this not be a hint of his family lineage showing through in his demonic powers?

Again.. I'm waiting for a source that specifies this is a reboot...

Because this is a new developer, not Capcom. If this were being developed by Capcom, I might think that, but it's being developed by Ninja Theory. When a new developer is developing a game in a series, they almost always reboot it rather than trying to recreate what the old developer did. The reason I automatically assume it's a reboot is just pattern recognition.

People are assuming this is a reboot because there is virtually nothing in the trailer that relates to DMC apart from a guy who calls himself Dante who fights with two guns. There isn't any of the Gothic architecture, the whole fantasy-ish tone is gone replaced with this gritty, present-day tone, the gunplay itself looks a little forced (though I'm willing to put this down to bad animation), Dante's voice is completely different, even the monster designs are different.

Oh, and probably because every gaming website and a half is calling it a reboot.

This isn't a fucking conspiracy. Capcom wouldn't just say "Ya, this is a Reboot", wait for you to buy it (Or when more info comes out) and then say "HA! Fooled ya! It's a sequel!" It be like Valve saying "Half-Life 2 episode 3 is a sequel." Then when it comes out saying, "Just kidding, it was a prequel."

Once again that proves nothing!! Where does it say its a reboot? Where does it say its the same Dante?? If anything youve only stepped on your own point because it DOES confirm that CApcom are aslo in on the development.

Mayhaps the giant letters "Series getting a reboot" should have tipped you off. And it's getting published by Capcom, not developed.

What if the creator tweets on Dante's new image? Why would he care what Dante's Son looks like? In fact, to quote him, "Dante has Changed, but from my point of view, Dante has changed with every sequel."

He really does look like Hilary Swank. I initially thought the first image we all saw was bad, but then I saw the trailer, and he actually looks worse during gameplay. I want the image back now.

If you cant tell already... I'm gonna be a dick about this. Untill I get a solid statement from Capcom saying it's a reboot all the crap youve linked is pure speculation. AT no point has anyone in authority over the dev stated THIS IS A REBOOT

What if he does? that doesnt prove its him. One link in here suggests this character is looking for revenge against a once trusted relation. mavbe the relatiom is original Dante
