I'm kind of a sci fi junkie, so my suggestion would be to make them exist in alternate dimensions/realities and be connected somehow through either a scientific experiment gone wrong or some mystical accident etc. Make several different levels where you have to survive so many waves, kill so many bosses, or whatever to advance. Maybe throw in a little storyline between each level, but just enough so players imaginations can run with it. Have levels with different settings, inside buildings, underground, forests, etc. Just my take on it though. And you don't need too much gore or whatever. yeah blood and violence is cool, but you want them to see the awesome graphics you produce, not just red. Just saying.

I really like this idea, it not only encourages teamwork but makes it necessary, which is great. I might experiment with this sort of mechanic if I ever get around to making a game.

I like this. It would surely lead to some interesting strategies. Although on the other hand, this is a game that would only work Co-op and I doubt developers would want to put much effort into that.

If I were to make this game it would probably be in a pseudo-sci-fi abstract horror-esque style that I like to draw and paint in. It would probably be about two warriors who are trapped within flickering planes of existence and have to fight off the creatures that inhabit the void between planes to survive as long as they can. I really like minimalist stories. Different levels are a must, perhaps at random or set points the area you are in flickers into a new random level or some such. Bosses would be great too, and you could do some pretty damn awesome things with these mechanics when it comes to boss fights.

I had this idea a while ago, and I wanted to share it with you guys. I was thinking about game mechanics and co-operative play, and I came up with this: How about a game, perhaps a shooter, based around two players surviving against waves of enemies...

BUT WAIT! The enemies spawn with one of the two players as a target. Both players can only see and kill the enemies that are going for the OTHER player. Almost like a game based around a twist of perception. It would really put your life in the other player's hands and encourage ACTUAL co-operation and effective communication between the two players. It wouldn't be like a lot of co-op games where one player will run ahead and eat all the medpacks.

To prevent griefing, YOUR healthbar would be based off the damage the OTHER player receives, but if one of you dies it's game over for both.

Would you play a game with this kind of concept in mind? Do you think it would work or would it be a nightmare to play? Any ideas to further the concept?

Just a little thought experiment :)
Go do it, so I can play it.
