I've seen a lack of Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition threads around. And, given that we now have a concrete trailer as well as info of what to expect from this game.

So, aside from Turbo mode and some tweaks in places, we have some new additions: Trish, who made her playable character debut in 2, is going to be along for the ride as an optional choice to go through Dantes missions. Meanwhile Lady is going to be an option for playing through Nero's missions. Both of these characters have their own unique move-sets, weapons and abilities that can be leveled up just like in 4 proper.

But the biggest addition and one that will likely appease a certain Clarion of Daystar, is the inclusion of everyones favorite blue-coated, katana wielder:

We're also getting some new costumes to play around with as well. Not sure what else is being brought in but, so far, I'm liking what I'm seeing.

What about you escapists? Thoughts?

I can't wait. I loved DMC4. Sure, Nero was crybaby, but the gameplay was amazing. And it's kind of amazing how the graphics still look cool even today despite the fact that it's a very old game. PC version's been confirmed so I'm very hyped.

Seems random to update it now but I'm into what they're adding here.

Of course the games biggest problem is the flow of the levels. Is that something they've talked about tweaking?

I am really looking forward to it.

I'm mostly excited to finally play as Lady, though, as she's my favorite female character in the series. I hope they have her DMC3 outfit as an alt costume, because I'm not too big on her DMC4 outfit.

There's a PC version too, thought it was going to be a console exclusive. I'm still bummed that Definitive Edition never got a PC release though, I would have liked to see the gameplay changes in that on my PC version of DMC.

My theory is they're testing the waters of which direction they should take the series.

I do admit, I was more keen on her DMC 3 appearance myself and the idea that there are more alternate costumes in this version does make me happy given how lacklustre the alternate outfits for DMC 4 vanilla were (Aka. Just the same as the old outfits, only they let you have unlimited devil trigger).

That Vergil gameplay video looks great! Got all warm and fuzzy with nostalgia when he switched through the weapons at the start which looks like its the exact same from DMC3:SE, I got more hours out of Vergil in that game than with Dante hahaha.

Its going to be interesting to see how this is going to do sales-wise, and I have the feeling this is (like Infernai says above me) essentially Capcom checking out whether they should go back to the original style or stick with the new one. I honestly hope for a return to form though, as great as DmC is, it wasn't Devil May Cry for me and never will be.

This so much. I was disappointed when Vergil was announced, because he was already playable in 3, and I didn't enjoy him there. But playable Lady? Take my money, capcom. Take it now.

Thoughts? RIP Tameem. Hello DMC5.

But back on topic, yes, I am quite excited for Vergil! The more shenanigans to be had with canceling, the deeper the hours I'll commit into this! Not to mention I look forward to see Trish/Lady's sections as well. They didn't have to add such cool things but they did it anyways... kudos.

Yaaaaaas! All of my yas! I have yet to truly sink my teeth into DMC4 anyway so gimme gimme! Just please please let there be a DLC addon version for those of us who already own DMC4. I'm not holding out much hope for that one though, what with capcom's history...

Oh, sweet! I totally forgot something like this was in the works!

...is it odd that one of the things I'm looking forward to most is what soundtrack additions they're adding for the new playable characters? I mean, Trish is probably going to get some new version of Lock And Load like she did in DMC2, but if Lady is really going to be playable, I can't wait to hear her motif in a general fight track (hell, if they just adapted her boss battle music, that'd be cool).

If the rumors about the sales of this being compared to DmC definitive to see which gets a sequel are true, then this is pretty much a MUST-BUY if you really want the series back.

Helps that everything about it sounds awesome. I can look past a lot of flaws in games, to the point where retreading the whole game again as Dante didn't even bother me in the slightest. And Virgil, Lady and Trish as playable characters to do it all again makes this a dream come true for me. Lady's one of my favourite characters in games, on so many levels. I hope they have both her DMC4 and 3 costumes, they did say there would be alts so I want both options for me. They're both fantastic for different reasons.

Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to say that Tamtam's little experiment is officially dead. Then again, considering how its intended mission was to expand the userbase and didn't even hit half the sales of DMC4 despite there being a lot more PS3's and 360's in the wild at the time of its release I doubt it had any sort of future even without DMC4: SE declaring a return to the franchise.

dmc4 so called special edition is just another money grab. trying to get your money again for exactly the same game to have something to play on "next gen" which for some reason lack backwards compatability. ohh wait then they couldnt pull shit like this off all the time

I'm going to be the odd man out. This simultaneously got my hopes up and left me disappointed. It does not help whatsoever that I got introduced into the franchise really late and it took even longer for me to get interested. I only bought 3 and 4 and the reboot for myself on Steam back in June and September respectively. Then, these had to come along. DmC: Definitive Edition might not ever get a PC release and people who already have 4 probably aren't getting any discounts.

THE GOOD
I was not expecting playable Lady and Trish at all. With that Vergil teaser when this was first announced and no playable Lady in DMC3:SE I was just expecting Vergil. In retrospect I should have at least thought of it as a possibility all things considered especially since the friend who introduced me to 3, 4, and the reboot in the first place just told me he had already heard a rumor about their inclusion. Either way that was a nice surprise.

While it looked like some of Vergil's moveset contrasts with his reserved style I realized upon rewatching that at least some of that was just probably because of the hectic nature of the difficulty and the people playing. His expanded abilities look pretty great overall. Even if they don't feel like Vergil I'll probably still love it.

I don't get the sense that any unintentional, but awesome mechanics got removed. You know, the things you could do that you get the sense you shouldn't be able to do if the game wasn't rushed. Lucifer glitch, guard flying, reversal moves should all stay in.

THE BAD
Still, no unique story for any of the new characters though. Just new opening and ending cinematics. Looks like they didn't learn from DMC3:SE and Vergil. I think I remember reading that even back then, with the standards of the time and only a 1 year gap since the original, people were upset about that. Who teases a story with an opening cinematic then just has the character replay through all the same missions as the protagonist with no cutscenes? Having new playable characters go through missions you've already played through as Nero or Dante only gets you so far.

I also liked the idea from, I think, Youtuber Vash the Shell Bullet that the rushed story would get mended and dropped gameplay ideas added back in some capacity. Heck, they could have just let you play cut content as it was, separated from the main campaign and main gameplay. I would not mind. If a game like Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga can add in 2 previously deleted levels from the 1st game I think this can manage. Looks like we're not getting that. Like me, he also wonders if they overdid it with Vergil without changing Dante or Nero majorly to still be worth playing, but I am going to keep giving benefit of the doubt towards that for the sake of Vergil Rule of Fun [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleofFun].

Not that the game doesn't still look good by today's standards, but they could have at least bothered upgrading the visuals. It's been 7 years. I know they haven't been working on it that long, but the time gap between releases themselves does kind of warrant an upgrade bigger than what 3 got for the Special Edition and HD collection.

SO
Add features most people have come to expect from the series. Don't bother with the standard expected from these re-releases in general though. I'll still buy it. It offset my concerns. Combat wise it's probably better than 3 now.

Meh. It's been years since I played DMC4. I'd much rather them package the first three games. And unify the control scheme.

A money grab that more than doubles the amount of playable characters in the game? It would be a money grab if it was just some hd textures. Even a single new playable character is a huge amount of content in DMC, and there are 3 in this game.

I'll get it if the PC version has better controls this time. The original release's PC controls were awful.
