After hearing about the details regarding ps4 neo, I felt like hugging my ps3. It had enough games for me to play until now (and I still need to get through the Xillia duology) that I still haven't gotten a ps4, I was planning to get one when FFXV was released since nothing exclusive on it outside of Bloodborbe and Disgaea 5 appealed to me. Upon hearing of the new model and about a potential decrease in the price of the basic model, I feel really lucky. I'm not sure I even care about the new features of neo so whichever case may be it feels like a bargain.

So, how is everyone else feeling? Anybody else who waited without feeling like they missed out only to be rewarded? Anyone who likes the new traits of neo enough to buy it despite owning a ps4 already?

I'm kind of excited, actually. Not so much for the Neo itself, but for the market impact it will have. I've been "on the fence" for a while due to lack of interest and money, but with a price cut for standard PS4's on the horizon and No Man's Sky swiftly approaching, I'm thinking it might be time to finally take the plunge.

If I do purchase a PS4 it will be the first PlayStation console I've ever owned. It's not that I hate them or anything (I had many fun play sessions on friends' systems during my teenage years), it's just not what I usually gravitate towards.

I typically wait 2 years before getting a next/current Gen console. I had heard all of the issues/limitations that the PS4 had run into when it was released and despite that, I was able to get a good deal on a bundle and went for it 6 months ago.

I've been very happy with my PS4 and have plenty of games already to play and enjoy. I'm also looking forward to many new titles (i.e. Battleborn, Uncharted 4) in the future, so the prospect of getting the PS4 Neo is very slim. The only way I'd even consider it if it became very affordable in the future and I could still find a lot of mileage on my current PS4 (and I will; I've done the math).

So a cool console for those who have yet to experience the current Gen; not so much for current or recent owners of the PS4 "Basic."

I've almost bought a PS4 on impulse a couple of times already, I don't know if I have enough willpower to resist it with a price cut and Uncharted 4 and Dark Souls 3 out

I echo other opinions on this issue, namely with regards to potential price drops to the older model. I already own an xbox one so most of my gaming needs are taken care of, but I would be lying if I said that there weren't exclusives on the ps4 that I'm very interested in.

I'm in the "I have no strong feelings either way" camp. Until they actually announce the thing and it's clear what it actually is and what it's going to do, I don't think it's worth giving much thought to. Still, if it does come out and it can hold 60fps @ 1080p, I'll buy one, even though I already have a PS4. IDGAF about $400, so whatever.

I already have one. And to be honest i have already gotten my moneys worth out of it. Will i buy the new one? Well it depends, how much better will the PSVR work with it? If it's little or not at all, well then i won't bother. If it's a significated performance increase then maybe. The thing is i do not own a 4k tv, so being able to play in 4k doesn't matter to me at the moment.

I'm hoping this is going to be the big thing that makes me want a PS4. I've been saying this for the past 3 years but I really want to want a PS4, unfortunately money is issue one and issue two is the fact that most games I want on PS4 are also on the PS3...yeah. With the PS4-Real This Time Everyone I'm hoping that it does get a price cut at the least but I'm also hoping that new games are exclusive to the new console. I'm glad I got to play Wolfenstein The New One on the PS3 but it makes me feel like the PS4 version was potentially nerfed from what it could have been to make it stable on the older hardware. My current plan, funnily enough, hasn't changed since my "PS4 reveal" plan: I'm waiting for Final Fantasy XV and/or Kingdom Hearts 3.

Of course now we're in an odd era where every PS4 ad I've seen lately has been for PSTV or whatever the Hell the TV service is...Didn't we, as a group of people, send a strong message back when the Xbone was detailed back in...what, 2012? 2013?

When you are ready, get one. You deserve it. The PS3 is based upon 10 year old technology. I still have 2 and have a lot of fun with them but the PS4 is a fun luxury. Not sure of price cut coming anytime soon but watch a compare sometime of Uncharted 3 vs 4: this is going to be fun.

Got a PS4 so not buying a new one. If it needs the Neo for VR I will likely just upgrade my PC (since it needs it) and use that instead for the superior experience at least from a technical perspective.

Only way I can see myself getting one is my PS4 breaks (and I bother to replace it) or PSVR becomes the dominant VR experience and the Neo greatly improves the experience.

Overall I think they are walking a very fine line between sustaining the success of the PS4 and destroying customer confidence so will see how well they balance it.

So... guess I gotta be 'that guy.'

I am highly amused.

Nope.

Anyone who likes the new traits of neo enough to buy it despite owning a ps4 already?
Don't own a PS4, and this does nothing to make me want one.

I'm just laughing my ass off that consoles, the plug and play option, the cheap affordable option, the 'universal hardware' option, are now reduced to upgrading mid-cycle. And the original PS4 lasted less time then a mid range video card.

Sorry to be 'that guy,' but it seems like someone should be.

From what I hear, consoles always had shadow upgrades, maybe not of this scale but they did. Same when the 360 got the nonRROD models made and such. Not a new thing.

But yeah, I mean, you play on console for the console exclusives nowadays, I doubt many people do so cause gaming on pc is too complex and they can't wrap their minds around it like how it was back when DOS was the main OS. Consoles of the present aren't really trying to offer what they did in the 80s and 90s, nor should they in such a computerized society as the one of the present.

With Bloodborne, Dark Soul's 3, and now Persona 5 coming out? Nah, I'm completely fine with not waiting.

As someone who owns a PS4, the PS4K, PS4.5, the Neo, whatever. It can go fuck itself.

I feel like between this and the cross-play between M$, this is the console gen that melts the line of console and PC. I also feel like it's a bad business practice.

The idea is nice, for those who have 4k capabilities I guess. But the worries/concerns of mine have been echoed by more professional critics than I. Suffice to say that I fear the 3ds/New 3ds problems arising, specifically mentioned is the Hyrule Legends problems. Both handhelds can run the game, but the older version of the hardware is pisspoor in comparison, somewhere around 12 fps.
Now Sony has said (apparently) that they won't certify any games that run poorly on the older PS4, but I'm not convinced the AAA industry can keep up a standard like that. Optimization is a foreign word in the games industry at times, depending on who you're speaking of and more than likely games are either going to run poorly on both or the older hardware is going to be sacrificed.
The best hope would be that the games are optimized to run at current standards on the PS4 and the PS4 NEO at the touted 60fps. What would be GREAT would be that owning a NEO but not utilizing the 4k option would mean even greater performance gains @1080p, however the likelihood of that is asking for too damn much from the industry.

I can't buy and pop in ps3 games of the past generation I skipped, can I?
Because they're too busy selling "remastered" versions of those games.
I couldn't care less then. About consoles in general.

All they do is keeping me from playing games they hold hostage to justify their existence because they can't be arsed to convince me with attractive features anymore. The product itself has no legs to stand on so they need to resort to basically being parasites at our expense.

So I don't particularly care to buy into that cycle of more and more restriction for me and more and more control over me for the manufacturer.

I just looked it up and it sounds neat for enthusiasts but it really doesn't have anything that makes me want it that bad. The only thing that comes close is the 4K support but it's not like I own any 4K media or a tv that can output that.
Like I said, I'm sure this is good for somebody, just not me.

I just had a thought... If Sony has come to the conclusion that their developers are running into issues due to hardware limitations, and the PS4 was already more powerful out of the gate than the Xbone, what does this mean for Microsoft?
