SO... How DO you like vampires?

I prefer my vampires to be fast, strong, harmed by sunlight, and have personality choices beyond "Teenage Angst" and "Bloodthirsty Psychotic." Is that really too much to ask?

Read "The Last Vampire". That'll give you a pretty good idea of the type I like. I will summarize what I remember though.


Sunlight hurts, but doesn't kill: It basically will weaken you, but unless you haven't eaten in a long time, it will not kill you
Blood is necessary to survive, but is not required all that often: You can go months without blood, and you can live off of animal blood if need be.
You are fast and strong: You are lightning quick and stronger than a normal person.

so there are no bad side-effects?

He sleeps during the day, sunlight doesn't seem to hurt him though. He drinks the blood of many a person and is extremely fast. Oh yeah, he has very dark powers

I'm a bit of a Hellsing fanboy, Alucard is just sort of awesome compared to the sparkle vampires that have risen up recently

i like the underworld style vampires they are quite strong immortal and drink blood to survive UV radiation gives them a mean sunburn
from what i know of the twilight pseudo-vampires they are too powerful and too wussy

You still are weak to sunlight, and your powers decrease while in the sun, but your body can eventually adapt and be less weak to it over time.

Same goes for drinking blood. You need it to survive, but you can go for long periods without it, you'll just become weaker.

They should actually be vampires. That is, they have fangs, human blood is the only blood that really does it, they're seductive as hell (why fight for the meal if you don't have to?) until/unless you see through them, at which point the illusion is gone and they look like horrible monsters, they can't just NOT drink, they're fast, strong, and god dammit they're scary.

Vampires should never not be scary. The scariness is a big factor in what makes a vampire attractive.

Honestly, I hate vampires. As a kid they always scared the shit out of me. So, in order to make me actually like a vampire, you have to make something like this.

Take a vampire, make it completely harmless, helpful even, and then make it what I love the most.

Sunlight either hurts or is fatal. May depend on amount of exposure and condition of health.
Can shape-change. This means bat, wolf, mist, dust, whatever. They should be able to take any form they please. At night.
Drinks blood. Humans are preferred, but blood is blood.
One bite = slave. Drink vampire blood = vampire.
Has a castle. This one is optional, but is always a plus.
Fights Belmonts. Again. Optional.

I'm neutral on holy artifacts killing them. As long as it fits with the story being told it could go either way for all I care.

Classy, sophisticated and manipulative. I used to have a vampire like that in a steam punk fantasy story of mine, but sadly enough removed him thanks to the current craze.
