Being Irish myself I'm only two/three hours into the game. I've never played any previous games in the series but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

There are only two things about the game I dislike so far.

The voice acting: I'm okay with Jensen's toughened up Keanu Reeves voice but a lot of the other characters so have just been terrible.

The hacking: it really doesn't make any sense to me. (I've only, come across two or three hacking opportunities so far and found them to be highly frustrating.)

Otherwise I have found it to be an immensely enjoyable experince thus far. And it is a strong contender for my GOTY. (I'm not a huge Elder Scrolls fan, Batman AC doesn't interest me and none of the upcoming FPSs seem to take my interest.)

I got Deus Ex HR today... and I got Deus Ex (original) yesterday. So far I'm enjoying HR more, for pretty obvious reasons, but I still do like the first game and I can see why it's so widely lauded.

I completed it yesterday and enjoyed almost all of it. I actually prefer some aspects of the game to the original Deus Ex, and think it's a worthy successor overall.

Pros:

+No Dragon's Tooth. This item negated most of the challenge in the first game, as most enemies could be killed with one or two strikes
+Low health makes stealth a more viable option
+Hacking minigame is well-developed and the amount of items you use is not set in stone
+The world is very well-developed and interesting
+World hubs are a lot more active, with more stuff to find
+The persuasion system is excellent, with conversations that are actually tense and involving
+The AI is, in general, a lot better. Whereas in the first game, the AI would just run around in random directions if it heard something, the AI in this game checks the spot where it heard the sound, checks the spots around it, then as it's done checking looks around again to see if it missed anything
+Voice acting is a lot more believable
+Varied augmentations which don't just rip off the first game like Invisible War did.
+Takedowns make stealth a more viable option

Cons:

-The "golden age" aesthetic is too prevalent and made me feel like I was exploring the same area I explored before
-The bosses feel out-of-place. Whereas the bosses in the first game were foot soldiers you felt like you knew at some point, and could be beaten with a killcode if you did enough snooping around (or even completely evaded), the bosses in HR are just foot soldiers that can only be beaten with weapons
-Some of the new upgrades, like energy recharge speed, are downright useless
-Takedowns are too easy to pull off. I can fully alert a heavily armored guard, have him start up his heavy rifle, and then knock him out by punching him in the face without a second thought.

Minor quips:

The third-person camera, IMO, detracts from some of the immersiveness of the world. It would be a lot more fun if I could take down a guard in first person

I think they added the energy costs to the take downs just to keep them from being utterly broken. I found the "give me Deus Ex" difficulty absurdly easy if you take the non-lethal route and have some patience. It's actually somewhat funny, because I'm finding the hardest difficulty far easier than the regular difficulty solely because I like to use take downs and non-lethals almost exclusively. I can count only three times so far that I needed to resort to lethal ordinance, and that was my fault for missing some shortcut I could have used to ambush the enemy.

The recharge mods are only useful if you are a NL take down whore like me, because maxing out the bar recharges it almost instantly. Otherwise, yes, spend your point elsewhere.

Also, does no one seems to realize that that first mission series after you get augmented is practically custom built to let you farm takedowns and XP. Hacking has no penalties (other than an arbitrary lock-out timer) until the police station and you get even more XP for controlling a certain percent of the nodes. And you get HUGE bonuses for clearing rooms with nothing but NL takedowns throughout the mission series. Seriously, I had maxed both paths of my energy aug, my hacking stealth, and most of my hacking capture by the time I got to the police station just using NL takedowns and hacking everything in sight.
And once you max out your H. Stealth Hacking is just free XP and money.

I didn't even use the praxis box you can buy from LIMB because the damn place never seemed to actually roll the damn things.

Well to me original is still best.
Human revolution is still very good game and ranks second.
Invisible war was just bad and shouldn't stand anywhere near these two.

My biggest gripes with this game are boss fight. I thought they were annoying frustrating, and didn't give you any choice to do things like every other thing in this game.

I love the game, but sadly never played the first two. Hopefully the series will become big again.

Actually, I just beat the game and found many of the same flaws already mentioned. I do have a question on one boss in particular:

Namir, is there a way to fight the naked bastard WITHOUT your Augs going haywire?

I was holding back judgement until I played it properly.

I've played both Deus Ex and Invisible War.

I will admit to playing the leaked preview build. What I saw then made me want to buy the game.

Only got it yesterday i'm in the UK so it only came out then but i've really enjoyed what i've seen of it so far.
