And it can take pretty much any game I can throw at it. I was hesitant to buy anything on Steam due to a lack of being able to play anything on my old laptop, but now I want to get into this. I currently own Dark Souls, Skyrim, Bastion, From Dust, World of Goo, Blocks That Matter, Arma 2 Combined Ops (for DayZ), KOTOR, Psychonauts, Limbo, the Thief bundle, Portal 1 and 2, Magicka, Poker Night at the Inventory, Civ 4, Binding of Isaac, Cave Story+, and all of Sam and Max.

So escapists, any recommendations?

Get yourself the Half Life series, then you can get all the mods in the World!
here's one half life 2 mod that some Youtubers have been playing

If you really want a game to put your rig through it's paces, get Metro 2033. It's far from a perfect game, but the setting and atmosphere are pretty much unmatched, especially in a first-person shooter. Plus, it's one of the few games that will truly make use of whatever hardware you have.

If you're a fan of RPGs, I would recommend you get Oblivion. Not for Oblivion proper, but for the Nehrim mod. It's a total conversion for Obivion that ends up being better than it in just about every way. I should warn you, though, that all of the voice acting is in german, so if you don't speak german, you'll have to read a lot of subtitles.

Also, if you haven't played the Stanley Parable, play it right now. It's a free source mod that doesn't require actually owning any source games to play. It's a very clever deconstruction of storytelling in games. Play it right immediately.

Orcs Must Die and Orcs Must Die 2, if you want a funny, fast passed, cathartic orc killing experience. I had lots of fun with these games.

The Orange Box for sure, Half Life and TF2 are excellent(though you already own Portal)

Also, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, though they're flawed, its an extremely cool premise, and a very expansive open world.

I would recommend Counter-Strike GO. It's a very competitive and fun online shooter. I've gotten many good hours out of it.

Also the Walking Dead series is really, really good.

Lastly I found Sleeping Dogs on pc to be fantastic.

Man, that game is hell on ANY system. How low do you have to turn down your resolution to get it to run?
Portal melted my graphics card when I first played it ;).

OT: I would also recommend The Witcher 2. Best to get it from GOG.

I... I'm not sure you can run it... You might need a ton more RAM... A better graphics card... But... If you think you can... Try to get... No. No, I can't do it. Not in good conscience. I couldn't raise your hopes like that.

Okay. The most pro PC game ever.

Don't blame me if you can't run it though. It takes a really heavy hardware set.

What the hell are you running that you're having trouble with portal? It runs just fine on my old systems.

I don't want to start a fight, and maybe I should keep my mouth shut, but the first Fallouts (1, 2, Tactics) better implement the concept, and are only slightly less open.

Stalker, VtM:Bloodlines, Deus Ex, Dragon Age: Origins, even Legend of Grimrock.
Quite a few great games, far too many to list.
Hit up Good Old Games, I've got a ton from there.

Haha, no fights will be started here. I agree, Fallout 1 and 2 definitely implement the concept better, and I thought the story was tighter and the world was more consistent. More or less looking for games to take advantage of the fancy new computer.

Though he is right, definitely play Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics if you get the chance.

It's uh... it's a joke.

And you OP, download and install TF2 right now. It's free too, yay.

Also maybe Oblivion with lots of 'dem graphical mods.

Mayhap purchase L4D2 as it's 75% off right now.

Per-chance you fancy strategy? Total war, or Dawn of War, may suit you.

What's behind door #3... It's Mount and Blade: Warband!

Get Team Fortress 2 since it's free and very addictive once you get into it, aside from that I also recommend Left 4 Dead 2 (since you get the first Left 4 Dead maps with it so almost two games in one).

I turned them all the way up actually :D.

Thanks for all of those quick responses guys, I do have TF2 but it was free so I didn't think I should've mentioned it. I also have SMB, Fallout 3 and NV, and DA:O on the Xbawks.

This.

Nehrim = hands down best open world RPG of the last 5 or so years, even compared to AAA titles.
Yup. One of my most anticipated games right now is Enderal, the sequel of Nehrim being made for Skyrim. So far it's looking like it might be even better than Nehrim, which would be quite an accomplishment.
