So my friend linked me an ebay sale where hundreds of ps4s were being sold for $20
On a scale of 1-10, how likely is it I got scammed?

The seller had a 98% approval rating out of 250ish ratings and is located in China. So obviously something is fishy about it, but avarice got the best of me and I rationalized it as only being only $20. Assuming I actually get them I plan to sell them both, and I simply looked at it as being a risky investment with a potentially big payoff.

Of course I will dispute it with ebay / credit cards if it never arrives, but something about it doesn't feel right.

So how likely is it that I got scammed, and if I actually get them, how likely do you think it is that something is wrong with them / they were obtained illegally?

Reads like a scam. How would anybody profit from selling a PS4 at $20 unless it was stolen? And even if it was stolen, why not sell it at a higher price? There's probably a 1% chance hidden around somewhere that it's all true & honest but I dunno. Wouldn't buy.

I once got a warning for going full-capslock, you should probably edit that.

Is your intention here just attention?
Nah brah, just trying to gauge how retarded I am since I rarely buy things online. Unfortunately I am a greedy bastard :p

Care to link it? Usually to avoid being technically a scam, scam auctions like to do things like tell you that you are bidding on a raffle ticket to win an $EXPENSIVE_THING or something along those lines, if you read the fine print. Or a picture of an $EXPENSIVE_THING, or the box for an $EXPENSIVE_THING, or something along those lines.

Are you sure it said Playstation 4, and not Popstation 4?

Yeah, it's a total, and utter scam, no questions about it...

Welcome to online buying over the internet.

First rule, if from China and selling a "brand new" console, it's very very very very very very very x9000 very likely it's not a real deal. If you don't know already, China is known for selling counterfeit goods at a high rate, including consoles, that are either very bad replicas or worse, just an old plastic box. Good thing they didn't charge you $200.

Second rule, many times, approval ratings and reviews means absolute horse shit as any product being sold can have someone falsifying results in order to make a bad product look good and trick consumers.

eg. "Ride to Hell: Retribution is one of the best games I have played in such a long time, I give it 10/10" - If you actually know the Ride to Hell game, then you will know and see it's a load of expired shit coming out of a defected donkey's arse.

That's why people do not take holiday reviews seriously because it's the company that do their own reviews and of course they will say 10/10, 5 star, even though the service is crap.

So word of advice, don't always listen or click on something your friend says cause that could get you into trouble.

That's actually very true, I brought something on ebay, and the seller had great feedback. Absolutely zero replies even when I opened up a case, and they shipped it a week after it was suppose to arrive.

Let's just say their perfect track record has been officially broken.

Simple response: no you didn't. There is no way in hell you're going to receive a functioning PS4. None.

All very true. I'd also add that ebay is a strange place, where 98% positive feedback is actually not great. You want at least 99% to be considered a good seller on ebay. 97% is considered downright bad, especially for a big seller.

I'd also be curious to see a link, just to see how convincing the page was.

Going with the majority here; there is exactly zero percent chance of you actually getting a $20 PS4. Zero. None. the chances do not exist. Even if they broke into some warehouse and just stole a crapton of new PS4's to sell, they wouldn't sell them for just $20 a pop; they wouldn't make enough to justify the risk, not when even $100-$150 a pop would sell as well and make way more cash for them. You got scammed, dude.

That sounds exactly like the PS Vita scam that was going around for a while. Yes, it sounds exactly like that. /v/ was talking about that just a few days ago.

A Chinese seller with around a 97% approval rating was selling PS Vitas for really cheap. A few people bought them. Turns out, they got some cheap coins instead.

I hate to say it, OP, but you got played.

I don't think it can even be really considered a scam, at that price. You knew something was wrong. THey probably have some fine print listing that it does not function, or something.

I mean, if it's through Ebay the worst you've lost for your gamble is 20 dollars. If the seller was anywhere in the western world, I would of jumped at it but the moment it said China...

Eh, 20 dollars can't even buy you a hamburger/fries and hard liqour. Little lost.

While I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's something wrong here, along the whole "too good to be true" lines, allow me to tell a tale.

Way back in Ancient Times (okay, 2005), it was months before the PSP would finally be released in my country, and people were looking for anyway to get hold of one. Somebody saw one on ebay for about £10 and decided, screw it, why not give it a go? And lo and behold, it arrived! Turns out it was a strange marketing strategy for the official uk playstation magazine.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is: weirder things have happened!

I bought a "100% working and fully tested Nintendo DS" on ebay once. Its trigger buttons were apparently not included in the 100% working part or the fully tested part, because they were both broken.

Never buying from ebay again. Guy had a good 'record' and high approval rating.
