So, I can't help but notice the internet is still here.

Was the whole "we're taking down the internet" just a pre planned April fools joke?
Yes, as is every other time "Anonymous" threatened to do something before it occured. The real times that Anonymous does hack into something on the Internet, they don't send a letter or e-mail to their potential victims beforehand; the real Anonymous group isn't some gentleman thief. Something would happen, and THEN Anonymous says they did it.

The order is important.

I also like how they act as if anything they've done is a big deal. Half the time when you even hear about what they did, it's already over and nobody even batted an eye. I could spam this message board, get banned and have all my threads deleted, but by their standards I totally took down the Escapist.
Haha, I had a thread which slowed the entire skte and had "off topic" ranked higher than gaming discussion (my forum inferno), by those standards I should be king.

It's more than that. They might announce something ahead of time, but it would trickle down through different channels than this and the Facebook thing did if that were the case. Nine times out of ten, when a Youtube video gets posted that claims to be from "Anonymous," its actually from one random guy who thinks he speaks for the whole collective, and absolutely does not. In fact, Anonymous has had a huge problem with that for the last year or so now; one case (OpCartel) almost got people killed.

People seem to have a misconception about what Anonymous is. Contrary to what the article the escapist published would have you believe, Anonymous is not a coordinated group or organization with any true goals. It's simply a name given to people who frequent 4chan, a website with many different people, and just as many ideas, and differing opinions as you see here on the escapist, if not more. Pointing out this "plan" to take down the internet and attributing it to anonymous is like looking at a post by Daynal and proceeding to say that Escapists are rallying around the cause of zoophiles everywhere. Only difference is that on this website people are known by name.

Saying you're going to take down the Internet is already chewing off more than you can handle. But doing so months in advance, so they can stop you even better ... I say it's good they're Anonymous

And if they totally fail to achieve anything at all, they can always fail to tell anyone they were trying, one assumes.

Not really, Anonymous is more of a concept thing on the chans, and some people will ocassionally pwn script kiddies or a company they don't like, but there's also a hacker group called Anonymous with a core few members, which constantly has people leaving & joining.
