Well, you did just say you were a Halo fan.... The way you're saying it, it's as if you don't think it's possible for some to like both Halo and CoD.

Though I'm really disappointed that Bungie went ahead and included some weapons in Reach that weren't available even to Spartans until the late 2580s. Totally ruined my enjoyment of that game and made me lose a lot of respect for Bungie.

See? That did sound rather daft did it not?

Well, sure. CoD has always been totally about realism and it has been stated multiple times that the event the game depicts ACTUALLY HAPPENED and it takes place in the REAL WORLD.

Uh-huh.

If that's something you can lose all respect for someone over... that's pretty petty.

And the thing is, these idiots will probably defend the appearance of those guns. Purely because the bullshit that runs through their minds goes a bit like this...

"OMGFUCK U LUL COD IS RITE AND U RONG NERDRAGEGEGEG"

Because CoD is the only game worth playing, apparentley.
Yes, apparently, everyone who enjoys Call Of Duty is an imbecile who can't take any critisism and plays only Call Of Duty.

No, that's not the thing. By writing this comment, you demote yourself to the level of the people you describe.

Good day, sir.
Well played, sir.
Well played.

I play Blops. Blops is one of my "Mindless explosions/Michael Bay has an orgasm" games. I play because explosions are fun and so's the multiplayer.

But my serious games are mainly the single player ones.
Apart from Just Cause.
Which really is just about blowing shit up.

Historical innaccuracies are a ridiculous thing to overlook, but what are we going to do other than moan?

I don't like treyarch for their awful Ultimate Spiderman game. I loved the venom levels to death but everything else was total shit on a stick.

NAh but seriously, thats just laziness on part of the developers.

Either have correct era weapons, or change the time it takes place in.
That last line to me would make games sorta restrictive. Especially if the game was, lets say, about a future cyborg soldier thing going back in time and shooting Hitler in the face with a shrink ray so it could step on him.

Shrink ray or boring WWII gun...hmmmmm...
That would be awesome, but then why not market it as that sort of game instead of a black ops military shooter?

EDIT: Looks like I need to makes a few things clear:
- It's not just the poor choice of weapons that made me loose all respect for Treyarch. The screwy story, poor voice acting, the poorly constructed characters and many other factors in Blops (as well as in WaW) led me to despise Treyarch. The mess with the guns was the the last straw.
Poor voice acting? I thought Black Ops voice acting was pretty on par with all the other CoD games. In fact I think Victor Reznov's voice is some of the best I've heard from Call of Duty (it is Gary Oldman after all). Also I thought the characters in Treyarch's games were actually better, or at least more complex, than their Infinity ward counterparts.

But yeah, the story is screwed no matter how you look at it.
Mason (played by Sam Worthington) keeps switching accents. He goes from a basic American accent to an Aussie accent several times, and I'm pretty sure he went southern a few times. I believed Reznov's Russian accent to be piss poor, Bowman's (that's the guy Ice Cube played, right?) line deliveries lacked conviction and Woods often switched from being calm to borderline crazy sounding far too often.
Yes, in a way I guess that the characters in Blops are a bit more complex, but I think that's partly due to the ever confusing story and many twists. But I could more easily sympathize with the characters in MW2, even the antagonists because they were all so well yet simply fleshed out. Yes, I still hate the antagonist in both MW2 and Blops, but the reasons why I hate them are so vastly different.

In MW2, I hated them for their actions and beliefs (among other things). They were both played so well by their voice actors, their characters were all the more convincing. And since the characters in MW2 were done so well, I actually cared when they were killed off by those assholes. In Blops however, I just found them annoying and the only reason why I disliked them was because they killed Dimitri, the only character in both WaW and Blops that I cared about. But even though they killed Dimitri, I still didn't care for them much partly because both the level Dimitri was killed in and Dimitri's return were pointless. Once I saw Dimiri, I told my brother "He's only here so that they can kill him off and have a reason to hate these dudes." This guess was cemented when he predictably started talking about returning home, which in a Treyarch game is just begging for you to die. And thus he did, and because it was so obvious he was going to die, his death didn't mean nearly as much as it should have.
(also because me and my brother knew the level was mainly included so that they could throw in Nazi Zombies)

If your going to complain about the historical accuracy of the weapons, go play Battlefield Vietnam.

...good point.

I wanna shrink Hitler now...

Black Ops was a huge let down for me.

Actually, I found it weird that the multiplayer seemed to be all over the place in terms of time frame.

Uh, what has Reach have anything to do with this thread?

Doonesbury comic sort of in the vein of this thread.

My two cents is that I don't care if the campaign timeline isn't realistic but I care about the weapons pallet. It's like setting a game in the near future, but then giving them futuristic weaponry. The weapons should at least fit the general time period. It's not about realism, it's about making sense.

i think that its a big issue actually.

if treyarch can use that stupid excuse that "its the latest tec, so the elites get it" the thats a load of bull.

you dont see marines with metal storm or SAS with sound wave weapons. all these exist and are much further into prototype production than any of the guns in Blops could possibly be. and if they were using latest tec prototypes, dont you think they might be using somthing a bit more crazy, similar to the g11. some weapons, especialy the MP5 k werent even dreampt up, they were still prototyping the normal mp5.

but why sould i complain, i have alwaysloved the FAL and the G11, and the fact that i can "use" it in a game makes me happy, so i dont think it is a reason to make me hate this game, just an annoyance.

Minecraft not being based in historical events sorta gets rid of its responsibility to live up to them :p
Black Ops is based on historical events in the same way James Bond movies are.
Truth, but they're still set in a certain time period, which sets up certain expectations about content. Honestly, I dislike FPS games and try to avoid CoD so I don't care at all.
