And damn it is pretty. The Inventory system isn't as bad as every said it was and the game works pretty well on my PC on High level graphics. Overall I was very impressed with it.

Now however I'm currently recovering from nearly having a heart-attack cause for the first time I've had to fight the spiders (And me an arachnaphobe). And holy bus are they terrifying.

So for your discussion, What in Skyrim surprised/shocked you the most?

Welcome to the club.

Parthurnaax gave me quite a shock. I didn't realise what he was until he appeared behind me.

The giants gave me quite a shock too. I was just walking up to something that looked like a camp and I didn't realise that an eleven-foot tall humanoid was breathing down my neck...

And then the mammoths, I jumped for joy at seeing them. Too bad they are hostile.

To be honest nothing really surprised me.

My experience was pretty much the same one I had with Oblivion and Fallout 3; a bad one.

Actually, one thing that did surprise me was the opening which was more boring than both Oblivion and Fallout 3, that's quite a feat.

One thing I did like, however, that came as a pleasant surprise was Keith Szarabajka as the male Dunmer, but of course he didn't play any major character which was a real shame.

Actually the supporting cast was very impressive, but of course the main characters are all taken by actors and the professional voice actors get the minor/supporting characters :/

I'm enjoying it, but not any story of any quest. It's basically just a big sandbox where I can do things in a fantasy setting. If I start to pick the game apart for myself like I did with Fallout 3, then I'll just eventually get really, really tired of it.

I already like Dark Souls way more than Skyrim, and I didn't think that possible.

Probably the time where a titanic Frost Dragon came out of nowhere just after I'd come out of a Draugr-infested cave and ate the guy who'd given me the quest. Then proceeded to nearly kill me.

Gave me quite a fright. Slightly later, I encountered the same dragon again, and he then began a massive, awesome battle with a horde of Forsworn which the Forsworn just very barely won. Partly because I was giving them a bit of help.

First time a giant launched me 1000 feet into the air. Although it happened a little after witnessing Lydia go to the moon, so I wasn't completely unprepared. I did laugh my ass off, though.

The Giants and Wooly Mammoths. Both species have some seriously strong attacks which literally killed me in one hit.

Yeah, this. And I hadn't seen it happen to anyone else yet. It was a hell of a shock. The screen faded out and gave me the load game screen before I had even reached the apex of my ascent ._.

Personally the shock and awe of Skyrim was a negative one after the initial rush of it all wore off. I still enjoy playing it, don't get me wrong. I was just shocked at the massive sidestep the series took from Oblivion.

Perhaps you'd enjoy the mod that retextures them to look reflect real life counter parts. Sydney Funnel Webs, Black Widows etc.

Walking through the snow filled mountains is always a pleasure, then again I wouldn't have to walk if my horse didn't run away all the bloody time!

edit: woo hoo, post 1800!

Until that beautiful snow turns, displays teeth and claws and gives you a wallop. Bloody Ice trolls.
Not to be taken lightly early in the game.
The great thing is, I managed to dodge that High Hrothgar frost troll by complete accident. I couldn't find the path up the mountain, so I hopped up some random rocks and spent way too long scaling the side of the mountain before eventually stumbling upon the path when I was almost in sight of the castle itself. I later went back and shouted it off the edge of the mountain, where the corpse gave some Hags a very nasty fright by dropping out of the sky right next to them.

The guy getting his head chopped off during the intro sequence.
I actually didn't think we'd get such a graphical execution.

I was surprised at how good it was. It's a time eater. I thought it would be an average game, dumbed down for the masses but still worth the money. I was so wrong. I hate to admit it, but I think I played it more than I played Morrowind. I still can't say that it's better than Morrowind. Maybe in a few years when I become nostalgic about it.
