So I found an Australian uncut version of Caligula in a DVD shop

Suck it Conroy.

I bought a DVD of the infamous "Caligula" with Malcolm McDowell in it, not knowing that it was, in reality, an uncut version even though it had the new black "R18+" sticker on it.

It is an NTSC disk but it still works in my PS3 and Mac, so I was a happy man. More happy because what I actually have is an example of how my protectionist government failed to protect me in ways I didn't want to be protected. The feeling of owning this makes me so stoked, it's like scoring high grade cocaine in DVD form. Yeah, it may be lame to you Americans who can watch it whenever, but this is my victory over Australian censorship in a way I completely didn't expect. Normally I'd have to import the American version to see Caligula uncut but there it was, in a regular respectable DVD shop. I won't tell you where I bought it in case the feds raid them by accident. I also want to keep the whereabouts of the DVD secret in case the feds try and confiscate it. Not just because it's uncut, but the new black R18+ sticker on it means it passed through the OFLC when the censors were asleep at the wheel.

Here in the States that movie has an odd history.

I've still not seen the full uncut version of it. Now go find Pink Flamingos in it's uncut glory!
I ordered the Aussie Blu-Ray of Salo, because my art teacher wanted us to see it for our Photomedia class. Hope it arrives before the fundies re-ban it or something.

The reason why this copy of Caligula is special is not just because it is uncut but it is an all region disc clearly sold in a regular DVD shop that children frequent as well, and has an Aussie R18+ sticker on it even though it is the Uncut version.

The guy working the tills gave me a thumbs up when I pulled out my driver's license for ID, because he hadn't seen anybody buy Caligula in a while.

You can get R18+ movies without a problem.

It's the video games that don't have R18+ rating.
I don't think you quite understand what I'm saying here.

According to this site:

http://www.refused-classification.com/news/2010/07-25-caligula-banned-on-dvd.html

I would not normally be able to find an uncut copy of Caligula in Australia, much less with the OFLC seal of approval, that is, the G-PG-M-MA-or-R sticker that is colour coded to say which age group the movie is recommended for.

So it has this on it:
Pretty funny that you found a copy of it, although it's more likely that someone broke the law and imported it before selling it on to the video store, who then illegally sold it on. There's a whole bunch of law breaking going on there.

As for the movie itself, well, I've heard it's rubbish, bordering on absolute shithouse. So I have no interest in it at all.

Still. I fought the law and the LAW LOST? This is an achievement though, you ever see the movie Game Boys where they try and find a copy of Custer's Revenge? I feel like I just found the cinematic equivalent of Custer's Revenge.

I should probably point out that most video games here just get jammed into the MA15+ rating without any work done on them. So... yeah. Our censors are very soft when it comes to stuff like this.

Nope, just the one. He'll be gone soon. Replaced by a Green balance of power in the Upper House.
