Seriously, I hate to harp on a point that has probably already been made and conveyed more eloquently, but a game that gets "fun" around 15-20 hours in is not fun at all and simply amounts to being a chore.
i never said first 15 hours was not fun i said game open up at 15 hour mark because it's locked for a reason (story\characters). but anyway what do you expect it's a J-RPG it's designed that you have to invest time and be linear. if you don't have time go play call of duty or something their single player is 5 hours long. i personally loved the story form start and 15 hours of cocoon gone by really fast, witch is there to set story and characters.

It depends. Do you have A. One other game or B. $10. If you have either, go play another game. If not, well, you have internet access, so play Kitten Catapult or something.

Yea you almost sounded like you were making sense, but then you suggested that viii is better than xiii and thats just false.

Your failing is not the battle system's problem.
Oh great, now my opinion on the games quality is wrong. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
You're welcome, I live to serve. Contrary to popular belief an opinion can be wrong. For example, the 911 terrorists were of the opinion that when they blew up they would be greeted by 72 virgins. This is incorrect.

You suggested that VIII is somehow better than XIII and that is also incorrect. Its not any less linear, (just gives the illusion it is), its certainly not as good looking, the characters are equally obnoxious and the story is just as out there (both expected in a FF game), and the draw system was the worst system FF ever had and an actual grindfest.
That... is quite possibly the single most stunningly ridiculous manner used to metaphorically prove someone wrong.

You actually drag 9/11 into the argument to prove a (completely fallacious) point?

Deary, deary me...

Just to prevent your "prove that it's fallacious" - you ridicule someone's BELIEFS. I'm not in a place to say that they are right or wrong, though I BELIEVE they are wrong. They weren't of the opinion that it'd happen, they believed it. There IS actually a difference, and opinions really are opinions. He is of the OPINION that Final Fantasy VIII was better than XIII. I'm inclined to agree, though I also felt VIII was utter tripe.

EDIT: Please note that I am aware that this was probably a troll attempt. Please note that I also am remarkably argumentative and almost equally bored.

Am I... the only one that didn't actually find FF13 beautiful?
I thought it was okay, but I was so underwhelemed by the Crystarium menus, and sure the area's were pretty, but at most they were just an explosion of things we saw in precious FF titles.

I mean, sure all the characters looked very nice, they aren't doing very many different things, it's not like you could go about breaking a physics mechanic.

I really wanted to like this game. But I found myself so dismayed and utterly defeated by the lack of story that it made me want to cry. I actually enjoyed the new battle system, for all that it isn't strategic at all. But you want to tell me that FF13 had the beginnings of an epic tale six hours in? It was more like a few loose threads hanging about and a crapload of recapping. I felt like the game was going so excruciatingly slow because it thought I was stupid or something, and wouldn't get things unless I was explicitly told in a cutscene.

You obviously never said that the first 15 hours of the game weren't fun, as your rash (and if a bit feverish) comment suggests an affinity for the genre.

But this is nonetheless a common complaint about the game, that it only gets good after 15-20 hours or so in and something you should consider. Saying that it requires "player investment" is false, games like Dwarf Fortress are an example of player investment, in where its simply the controls that need some time to explain in order to fully enjoy the game, not so that you have to play the game for 15-20 hours for it to finally become fun.

And as a previous poster explained, a game should be engaging from the beginning and saying that it simply needs "player investment" is an lame excuse for shoddy piece of craftsmanship, its akin to saying that you need to watch a crappy movie for 1-2 hours before it becomes competent.

Player investment is an optional thing that can enhance your gameplay experience, like getting to level 60 in WoW to enjoy the end-game content or spending a long time pre-planning your Minecraft castle, and not to impede the player's enjoyment of the game itself.
