So I got Star Wars Battlefront recently...

I actually own it twice by accident.

I bought it for myself on PC shortly after it came out, along with a copy for my brother.

We played maybe...18 hours of it? My brother got bored of it a lot faster than I did.

But then around last Christmas my father bought the collector's edition for me on PS4. It came in a nice tin case, so I wasn't going to get rid of it or anything, especially since it was a gift, and I even played it a bit. I'm surprised it looks as good as it does on PS4. Really good.

Anyway, none of my friend's played it. And on PC I kept getting matched up with this one guy who was notorious for not only being astoundingly good at the game, but also a real dick about it. Like calling people incredibly obscene names and describing grotesque things they would do to everyone.

I have no idea if enough people reported him for him to get banned or anything. But I pretty much quit playing. I don't know how they did it, why the game kept matching me with them, but it's very unusual to get matched with the same asshole over 8 matches in a row over the span of multiple days.

It was fun for a short time though. Looks astounding. But laser weapons really lack something for me, and there was a very small pool of weapons to use. So it didn't do much to keep my attention.

Here is an important question, have you played the real Battlefronts? Because most of the criticism is that this game weren't as good as those were.
If someone's going to use that as the key aspect to rate the game poorly, then they're essentially saying "I refuse to judge the game on its own merits".

Saying game X isn't as good as game Y isn't a valid criticism. Just because it's inferior, doesn't mean that it's not still a good game.
If your product's name is Coca Cola don't make it taste like Pepsi, it's part of why new coke failed.
They we're both good, but because they're similar the new stuff didn't really attract anyone else, it's fans hated it, and the other product's fans aren't likely to try the new stuff.
The result is that the new stuff is heavily mocked even though it's not that bad, just ok.

If you made Halo and called it Legend of Zelda, people will be pissed, and rightfully so. I think Halo is a great game, but a terrible Legend of Zelda game.
"Here's a shit analogy that's almost completely irrelevant to the point!"

If your critique of a game isn't based on its own strengths/weaknesses, then you probably shouldn't be giving an opinion.

If two games in the same IP are different, then all you're able to do is acknowledge that they're different. No one can judge a game's quality based solely on its similarities to a different game. That's dumb, and we all know it.
But you can, and I did, and I will.

They can make all the changes they want. And we can be upset by that. Don't tell me I cant make an opinion just because I already have an expressed opinion. If I want to play a different game, I will. Its why I like series, cause I want something similar. If I want to play Battlefield, I will play Battlefied. I don't play a different game saying "this game should just be battlefield".

Yeah, you can acknowledge that the game isn't similar. But you haven't given any legitimate reasons as to why the game's quality is bad. You've merely cried out "it's not the same so i hate it".

So, as of right now, you clearly have no actual opinion of the game. Just an observation that it's different.
Actually I said that not liking a game because it is too different than previous is a valid complaint. I also said that liking the game anyways is also ok, but that doesn't invalidate the previous.

I do (and I have Battlefron II on GOG) and they were not anyting special.

I got bored the longer I played and somethings in BF2 just feels unpolished.

I went to play it again myself since it has been awhile, but on Steam controller doesn't work automatically and I'm too lazy right now to set it up.

Maybe what people liked about BFII and don't like about the new one is the opposite for you?

I remember liking 2 way more than 1 though.

Its actually a pretty good game. And plays nothing like BF4. So that was a stupid early on criticism likely from people who was just hating. Or lacks the IQ to see the difference in gameplay mechanics from those two games.
God I hated people who said that... One guy I asked on YouTube said it he "can't explain it, it just feels like it". Suuuurrrreeeeee... The only thing that I hated more was when people said it only had four maps. Yeah, it only had four maps on the larger modes, but when you consider the smaller modes and the offline maps, the game has more than 10 maps, easy.
Shame. Be mad about the amount of content available at launch. But making untrue false statements, and stating them as facts is silly.

Battlefront is a far more simple and user friendly game than Battlefield. After getting through the tutorial, its not hard to jump in and get the hang of the game after a couple of matches. Meanwhile at the same point of time, you'll still be trying to not crash the helicopter or fly it off the map in Battlefield. Let alone the Jet.
