To be honest Hardcore doesn't make the game massively harder, and to get the acheievement you could just play on Very Easy and rush through the game.
That's my plan.

The 10,000 points of Unarmed damage will be a *****. Even with unarmed weapons.

Honestly, Hardcore isn't that big of a deal. The only real problem is the Stimpaks not healing instantly, but that can be circumvented by activating a dozen consumeables at a time and getting an ungodly health regeneration.

Other than that, the biggest drawback is being pretty much forced to take the Strong Back perk, to allow you to carry around your ammo (which suddenly weighs some) and some food/water.

The whole having to eat, sleep and drink thing is fairly trivial. The game throws food at you in huge quantities, Gecko meat and Dog meat is widely available and easy to cook. Water is also easy to find, there are sources of clean water all over the map, even irradiated water isn't a big problem since taking 2-5 Rads to remove all your thirst is trivial.

Companion death is a nuisance at worst. Also, once you figure out that Stimpaks heal instantly for your companions and that you can acess the companion wheel in combat, they are essentially immortal.

Crippled Limbs needing a Doctor is inconvenient, but there are plenty of Doctors around, plenty of Doctor's Bags and Hydra heals all your limbs.

Also, how the hell did you even go through the first playthrough with all the damn bugs swimming around the damn place.
Patch the game. I've had zero bugs since I patched it and only a few minor glitches (an enemy or two got stuck inside a nearby mountain). The game cleans up nicely.

If your trying to get achievements then why not, but I prefer to play the high difficulty's for the challenge.

I'm a little surprised there isn't anything other than a trophy / achievement for it myself.

Doesn't mean I won't still do it though.

When you finish the game, as with FO3, it's over with...there'd be no point to getting any sort of phat lewtz. I burned through on Normal Hardcore my first time through, bugs and all, and because of the forced ending, I'm on a second "screw-the-world-I'm-exploring-here" playthrough.

I agree that Hardcore...largely isn't. And I'm waiting for the modding community (which did such a fantastic job with Fallout 3) to port the really good stuff over --- like Repair Rethought, weight for EVERYTHING in-game (and more realistic weight; no one-pound tin cans!), Mad Martigan's Monster Mod, and so on.

For those with FO3 and a desire to get your mod monkey on, check out fallout3nexus.com. Everything from DLC-level improvements and expansions on down the line.

I have just finished the main storyline of New Vegas on Hardcore. Got me a shiny Gold Trophy.
But don't seem to have the "special reward" that was promised. I have started a new game and played for a while but still nothing.

Anybody know what it's all about?

Not even the Fallout Wiki has anything about a reward of any kind? I was kinda hoping for snazzy armour or a shiny weapon or something.

I was expecting something else seeing as articles like this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104454-Fallout-New-Vegas-Hardcore-Mode-Earns-Players-Special-Reward] have been going about everywhere.
http://www.gamersworldbd.com/2010/10/fallout-new-vegas-hardcore-reward.html

I'm uh... I'm really sorry.

2 words, Ballistic Fist, with over 100 damage per punch, its so damn easy.

I beat the game on hardcore but I didn't get the achievement. Now I'm going back to play all possible different endings and all the side quests.

The satisfaction of a job well done and online bragging rights?
Online bragging rights aren't really satisfying because there is ALWAYS some basement dwelling cretin who claims to have done it in half your time and says "You Died in the battle with 3000 battlesuited robots when all you had was a damp paper towel for armour around your balls and a penknife? HA I owned all of them and didnt lose one hitpoint"

I would sit and type all of that in "nerd" but I'm worried about the impending "word abuse" tax that fines you £5000 for everytime you write a word using numbers such as "4w3s0m3"

AH shit its active now... wheres my wallet.
What your telling me you cant do that? Seriously?

Wow you need help

;)

Oh come on. You asked for it.
god i had a kid who did that at school, he would instantly claim he beat games the day it come out while we were in school "oh so really, you got it, played it all the way through on the hardest mode without dying and made it to school on time to try and brag about it now? oh rly?!? k cool. fucker."

I second this, online bragging is kinda dead at best ya can just brag to your younger bro as you watch him desperately try to catch up to you.

lol and if you were at my school any credibility you had would have shot right out the window. most of us agreed on stuff so when someone made stupid claims like that they would be shunned on credibility after saying things like that.

haha while it might be possible to do that in like 6 hours on a speed run, i doubt anyone could do it first try, especially since the game world is pretty huge.

Thats always fun. Though I got a kid sister, so I get a different direction to work with xD
"If you had a Penis you'd have won by now." hahaha.

Still, you want somewhere online that makes bragging a major part of its community?

Login to world of warcraft on a saturday and link ANY blue / purple item you own and say "Man thats a good item" and wait for the flood of "its shit" followed by all the die hards linking their stuff.

I always found that funny, I would be like lvl40 and link a new blue I got into my guild chat and say "Yay I just got this woo!" and some lvl60/70/80 (depends on the wow era) would link some thing they got and call mine shit and Im like, Erm.. dude, im lvl40. Then they start shooting off their mouth about why im an inferior player.

Good times ^^
