Haaai Escapist.

SO, HERECY, I currently don't own Black Ops.
As a massive fan of COD4 [...and as someone who pumped a lot of game time in MW2], I obviously wanted to buy it as soon as I could, but hey-ho, my PS3 got YLOD and...is broken, boo!

As a follower of the whole Call Of Duty community on YouTube, I've been subject to tonnes of Black Ops gameplay...and I really, really want it!

HOWEVER!!!!! I've seen a lot of very mixed reviews...and it's making me think if it's worth shelling out £45 for.

SO what better place to come to than the Escapist; my question to you is...should I get the game as soon as my PS3 is discharged from hospital? Is it simply not worth £45? Is it really as bad as some people say?
Let me know what you think, and please, give me your reasons why. Thanks:]

I actually thought the story line was decent. I was different than just "WAR MOTHA FUCKA!"

the online is decent, the perks seem to be decently balanced, but there is a severe lack in the maps. FOr example, in order to unlock one mode of game play,. you must reach a certain level (I think 15 or suck), but you're unlocking a mode with no equipment, no perks, and no kill streaks. So you have to play alot to unlock less than what you're been playing with.

It's a mixed experiance, but it's good so far

I would say its definitely not worth the price tag, Dead Ops and Zombies are fun but the campaign is even more rediculous than Modern Warfare 2s and nowhere near as fun. It has isolated moments but I'd wait until its cheaper. The story was a good idea, but, in my opinion, poorly executed.
I haven't played the online yet, but I don't much care for multiplayer so my opinion may be less than valid.
If you want a tense, realistic game like CoD 4 then this is not it, if you want a farcicle and totally unbelievable run-and-gun then this is for you.

No more warp-knifing.
No more quick-scoping.
No more game breaking kill streaks.

Multiplayer is balanced and fun.
The campeign is awesome.
Slaughtering zombies is fucking great.

I hated MW2, but am loving Black Ops. A must purchase IMO.

The only people complaining are those that liked the cheep shit in MW2, and for some reason I've heard a few say they aren't satisfied with the graphics, though they are more than good enough in my oppinion.

Campaign - I am playing on vet and good god, who the fuck programmed this shit?! 'cos they hate people, they really do. There has been a good number of times were I have been stuck at a checkpoint and as soon as I spawn or about 30 seconds later I die.

There is one point were you slide down a ramp, the screen goes blurry as your dazed, you must then hold a button to grab a hand gun that falls in front of you and kill 10 or so guys who run into view, except the first 30 times a guy was spawned behind me, who I couldn't turn round to kill. (like being prone and your legs hit a wall) or just killed me before I killed the others.

Others wise it's a very interesting story. Beats MW2 "from the windows to the walls", shockingly you can actually follow the story and understand it.

MP - I like it, I haven't come across many campers (except those bell ends who sit in random corners), noob tubed twice, actually quick scoped once, guns are nice, costomising is good.

Although I do have a few teeny tiny issues, the perks are kind of weak (ghost only works on UAV type kill streaks, they would be better suited so the heli can't shoot you!), the money system is a pain in the ass (I have to get to the right level AND buy it? GRRR) and the lower end kill streaks aren't that potent (no idea about the higher ones).

Thats my summary of it anyway.

Multi-player is great and the single player is ok if a little buggy (I had 3 bugs that forced me to restart a lvl) Definitely a must a have if you're a multi-player kind of guy.

I'll buy Black Ops. But certainly not now. I'll wait until all the used copies inevitably start showing up at my local Game or Gamestop.

I didn't enjoy Modern Warfare 2 at all. But I've heard good things about Black Ops, however I'm not making the mistake of buying it, like I did with Modern Warfare. I'll probably just rent it first and make my opinions of the game then.

I don't intend to buy Black Ops unless it is god's gift to gaming. From what I have heard, it does not fit that description. Sorry Kotick, but you won't get my money for a 4th of these freaking games.

Sorry, but if Infinty Ward was already dropping the ball with MW2, there's no chance in hell that Treyarch will be able to pick it back up.

I'm giving this game a major pass.

if you liked CoD 4 and want to experience black ops...

play CoD 4 again; ive played my cousins copy of black ops, and as with MW2, jack all has changed. unless your obsessed with a new and exiting short, mediocre campaign, theres not much new to warrant a purchase.

Waiting for it to drop to $20.
I'd have sold you my copy, but I broke it in half after being noob-tubed, spawn trapped, commando knifed, and quick scoped a few million too many times.

MW2 is terrible, loving Black Ops though, its like if COD4 and MW2 had a baby, then balanced that baby.
