How about a worst animal fears thread?

This may freak out a good number of people

Now I myself am not really afraid of spiders. I grew up living with a bunch of the little ones in the basement of my parents house where I slept, and they never really bothered me. Never took my chances with ones I knew to be potentially dangerous, but for the most part I let them be. Big ones like this...well, it is certainly a bit scary to me but at the same time, at least you will see it coming.

Edit: A more realistic picture for you all :p

Is it just me, or are spiders only scary when they are hairy?

Orb spiders, for example, aren't scary at all...though they just sit in their webs and do not run around.

Just says 4chan.org

And scorpions freak the holy fucking shit out of me. I can't look at one without feeling all gripey. If i saw one up close, i'd probably piss myself. Being chased by giant radscorpions in the Fallout games is enough to make me literally scream.

As for everything else, i'm pretty much fine, though any spider not from the UK is pretty scary.

What the hell kind of spider is that? Is it even real?

OT: I can't really think of any animals that absolutely terrify me. Some are crazy looking, but I'm not afraid of them.

Crustaceans are my outright paralyzing fear, which makes some video games...awkward. You can't really hit it for massive damage while going into hysteria.

And the giant spiders in Everquest...not pleasant. Not when they uncurl from behind a hill.

This was my response to the OP pic:

The only sane solution to that humongous spider is:

Seriously, nuke that bad boy from orbit regardless of whether it is real or not.

[sub]p.s. Where is my spider in a spider so I can spider while I spider?[/sub]

No way is that a live spider. That looks like a goddamn model on a fake tree.
My skin agrees. It isn't crawling.

Anyway, I used to be pretty hardcore arachnophobic. When I was extremely young, a kid I knew "lost" his tarantula and told me it was highly toxic and dangerous. He later "found" it on my exposed leg because I was too young to know shorts are dumb.

Then a few years later my brother and I came across a giant spider in the shed, sitting right above where we kept our bicycles like a smug shitbag, holding them hostage. One day I got fed up with its crap and decided fuck this guy, I want my bike. So I tried to kill it with a stick and it exploded tiny spiders all over my head.
That was a fun day.

I remained terrified of spiders until maybe like a year or two ago when I decided I'd had enough with being afraid of things and crushed any spider I saw with my bare hands. I stopped doing that when I realised it was stupid.

I still get a weird, muted sensation any time I see one, along with the above mentioned crawly skin, but I get over it.

We heard you like spiders, so we put spiders on your spider, so you can look at spiders while you're looking at your spider.

I'll second this point. That spider failed the Creeping Test.

Normally spiders will do this for me, in certain situations. I'm fine if it's an aerial view, or from the side, or the back. Give me a close-up of the front, however, and you'll have to peel me off the ceiling fan.

(Totally macho)

I don't care for spiders. That's probably because I have never seen the Hellspawn that lives in Australia.

What spider is that?

Here in Australia we used to have the Sydney Funnel Web spider. Past tense in this case meaning it is now called the Funnel Web spider. It has apparently been found up to and including 1000km away from the area it was thought to be confined to. That puts it about 200km south of where I live.

Apparently it has decided it is not feared enough.
