So I just bought Braid and Beyond Good and Evil.

What can I suspect, and how good an experience will I have? Good buys? Also can anyone round-ball completion time on the two?

These purchases were prompted by reading Destrctoid's top 50 games of the last decade. I figure I have some catching up to do. Also it was because Braid is currently 400 points on Live.

I'm not sure on Braid, but Beyond Good and Evil is amazing. Seriously the only game that I ever rented, then thought after beating it that I should go and buy it. And I've rented quite a few games in my time.

Braid is a fantastic puzzle game.
At times it will have you staring at your screen for an hour trying to figure out the puzzles, but it is so satisfying and fun that it is a must-buy, especially for the low price it is at.

Beyond Good and Evil was pretty interesting and unique, but it wasn't as good as Braid.

Braid is quite good, but the puzzles do tend to require some lateral thinking. It can be quite challenging at times. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but if you can't get into the right frame of mind it can be immensely frustrating.

As for Beyond Good and Evil, I'd have to say it's a very good game. I've only played the PC version off of Steam, which suffers from horrendous graphical glitches and terrible controls, and even then I still loved the hell out of it. I keep meaning to find a PS2 version, but I've not yet had the opportunity.

Same as Radoh, except I had it for my computer than my computer died and I lost my disc, but Beyond is still a fantastic game.

Braid is fun and can be brain challenging but it is very well made.

They're both good games.

Beyond Good & Evil has good likeable characters, a good-ish story, a good setting and good visual design. Gameplay isn't spectacular but it's fun and has variety. It's colourful and pleasantly lighthearted... except when it isn't. You'll know what I mean. In a good way.

Braid has cool puzzles and good visual design. It's main drawback, at least for me, is the high degree of pretentiousness. It has a story, but it's essentially gibberish.

As for game length, BG&E took me 12 hours. It could be done in less, maybe in about 10. I got stuck on two parts. Can't remember how long Braid took me.

I hated Braid, i found it dull and pretentious. Though i'll stick my hand up and say i've never really been one for side-scrolling 2d platformers, particularly ones of the indie variety. I'm sure some people can appreciate the dream-like aesthetics and the time control mechanic gimmick, but it's just not for me.

I love Beyond Good & Evil; played it to death on the original xbox and i do still in fact have the game, box and manual all in good condition. I really liked the world of Hillys. It felt immersive despite its fairly small size. The population and central characters were all endearing to me, even the antagonists themselves. The story is fairly unexplained, though, so don't go into it expecting any kind of resolution. The light stealth, action and puzzle elements are mixed in a way so as to keep the gameplay fresh without any one aspect becoming too stale. Environments can also be bigger than they appear, which is nice when externally the world hub seems small, but inside the various dungeons and places of interest you have a fair amount to explore.

I didn't like Braid much at all, and I have no idea about Beyond Good And Evil.
I'm told it's pretty good though.

Don't know about Braid.

BGAE was a quirky, off the left field game when it came out. The gameplay is good, and the characters, settings and music are quite interesting in their own unusual kind of way. Not sure how it would feel if played today for the first time though. My only complaint with is it that it kind of stumbles towards the end.

Seems like fairly solid buys then. I've had the BGAE trial on my HD for awhile now. After a few frustrating games online, I was idly browsing my arcade games, saw the trial and played it through. Must admit it cheered me up and I took an instant liking to it. I look forward to playing through it tomorrow.

Hmm. Beyond Good and Evil is one of the few PC titles I've been able to play all the way through in recent years, but looking back on the experience I don't think it was really worth my time and effort.

The game starts off well enough, the controls are not the best, but the story and characters are engaging. Still, about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into it the game starts to get tedious, the combat fairly repetitive and the levels confusing enough that I needed to consult a few video walk-through's to get past some poorly laid out areas.

By all means give it a go, but if you find yourself losing interest fairly early, I can assure you it's not going to improve.
