Awakening starts you off at level 18, the same with all the new companions you get. The really great thing is you can make you OR your companions into whatever build you like instantly.
If you go hey wait. I shouldn't have made this rogue a bowman, pay a few coins and reset your stats!
Action is so much faster when everyone in the group has like 20 abilities and a maxed skillbar.
IMO Awakening is by far the best of the DA series, I highly recommend it. Oh and yeah the ending of Origins was a little weak, especially that final bossfight.
