i read something on "Cracked" about how Anonymous actually issued death threats to an 11 year-old girl just because she called people on 4chan losers for requesting she strip.

after reading this, i honestly will not support ANYTHING Anonymous does and i hope they all get arrested, tried, and convicted of child abuse and attempted murder.

if it were up to me, i would string them up by their ankles and cut off their hands so they could be left to bleed out. and i mean ALL of them. Anonymous is not a silent defender, they are a obviously a group of bullies who occasionally throw temper tantrums when something dare threatens their freedom to post child pornography...

it's the sixth one down.

This is the same as your or me issuing death threats to somebody that wasn't a fan of The Escapist, and then somebody calling for the death of everybody posting on this forum - ridiculous.

I see a lot of people posting in this thread that appear to be quite ignorant about Anonymous and 4chan in general. I'd suggest you go check it out and visit a section you're interested in. I did and now it's where I now end up spending most of my internets. And I'd wager over 90% of escapists do aswell.

4chan is like the frontier of the internet. You're going to see a lot of things you wont see anywhere else and it's certainly not for the faint of heart. They have everthing from the most disgusting pornography you've ever seen to the most amazing homebrew pen and paper RPG systems and campaign settings ever created.

See, while it was 'Anonymous' that sent the threats, it does not mean that it was all of 'Anonymous'. They're not a structured group, they're just a collective that gets together when something sparks their interest, or ire.

They're not all bad, just look at how they've torn a new one in Scientology's side over the years.
You could say the same thing about their recent DOS attacks. Its not the majority of Anon that is doing the attacks, but they're all willing to take credit when the time comes. While the majority did not send death threats, they did harass her endlessly. I'd say that alone is pretty evil.
When it comes down to it, Anon is a group of trolls. Main deal with them is they are annoying as hell, and with them, there's a lot of them to contend with. The internet is a world where poor, pathetic losers like you and me can come to take out our frustrations in a place without real consequences. It's kinda like bullying, in that acknowledging them only encourages them.

This is why people shouldn't let their ten-years-old daughters own a webcam.

Imagine if you were invisible. What would you do? You wouldn't use your power for pure good, but you probably wouldn't be purely evil either. More likely you would be Neutral or Chaotic Neutral.

This is normal for /b/, actually. I'm unsurprised by this.
I second this notion.....

BTW, who remembers Dusty? Anon showed their good side then right?
No. Can you explain it?
This guy was physically abusing his cat Dusty, he posted video's of himself tormenting the poor kitty on the Internet, Anon traced his IP address and sent the information to the local police and the man was promptly arrested on animal abuse charges.

OP get both sides of the story before foaming at the mouth, Jessi Slaughter was not innocent here. Also, wtf was she doing on /b/!!?? People need to keep their children of my goddamn internets.

Girl had been raised poorly for so long the only way back would be some radical parenting to correct her, she is well on her way to becoming the next Paris Hilton at 11 years old. Check out some of her videos sometime, she's a charmer.

Ya, but we also shouldn't let people who want 10 year old girls to strip own a computer either. What I found funny is that 4Chan actually twisted the story to make themselves look mature, but in reality, this is probably one of the most vile things that I have ever seen them do. And we've seen them close down sites just because a person wishes to be paid for doing his job and not having what he created stolen by a community of pirates.

Just because they claimed the title of Anonymous, does not make them a part of some legion. Anonymous isn't a group, it is merely a title that groups use to not be viewed as real terrorist groups. Anonymous isn't an assembled group, it's not an entity, it's a name that anyone can use. I can cure AIDS and go under the name of "Anonymous", but that wouldn't justify the hatred that some spread with the help of the name, nor should it be done vice versa.

Imagine, hypothetically, Anon as a race. Do you kill all of them because some of them act out of line? If you want everyone that has ever made a meme joke and then filled in their name as Anon to die miserably, that is on the level of demanding genocide. To say that all of Anon are the same is like saying that all African-Americans are Morgan Freeman.

How did they twist the story? This is a pretty straightforward story of an arrogant camwhore getting more than she bargained for. It happens all the time. This one is only different because it got media attention. Yeah some of the Anon are dicks, but that doesn't mean it's not her fault.
They twisted it leaving out the fact that they actually encouraged her. Making them seem like the smart and mature people who hold up the law, when in reality, they were the ones encouraging her behavior in the first place.

I don't remember where they ever claimed to respect the law (Unless it can screw people they don't like), but there's still the fact that one or two or twenty members of anonymous only represent themselves, and not the whole group. That's what is so ridiculous about people saying "Anonymous did X". There has never been a case where "Anonymous" stood united on anything. Some of them may have encouraged her, but there was bound to be atleast one white knight who was telling them to leave her alone and GTFO.

And besides, even if they were encouraging her, she didn't need to comply, and she certainly didn't need to call them out. She was pretty much daring them to try something. She just didn't actually think they would. Still her fault.
That argument doesn't actually work for anonymous. We make claims that Anon saved this puppy or Anon gave this WWII vet a birthday party, but its usually a handful of actual users from 4Chan who do that stuff. Hell, recently I saw all of Anonymous get praised for giving a guy 20 dollars so he could feed his pets. If they choose to be a member of Anonymous, then we must represent them with the whole group. Unless they're willing to stand up for their actions, we cannot be sure who did it and as such we usually claim the group as a whole was a part of it.

She didn't comply. She called them losers and called them out on their threats, but they didn't need to comply either. It takes two to tango and both Miss Slaughter and the group known as Anonymous are in the wrong here.

-snip-
believe me. i dont spend any time at all on 4chan. i have heard too many horrible rumors to even think about attempting to go there.
Again, you should really consider checking your sources and think before posting things like in the OP.

Just to demonstrate that not all of 4chan is shit and that there are actually lot's of somewhat nice people on other boards:

This is a screencap from a thread that was created a few minutes ago on a board called /vp/ (It was created a few months back and is solely dedicated to Pokémon)

So no, you really shouldn't see Anonymous as a group of people all with the same idea, because it's just a group of people who prefer posting anonymous, there's nothing more to it than that.
