So as the title says I just got a PS3, and as someone who hasn't really kept up with Sony these past few years I need help. I just don't know like what is and isn't worth it, I already have a few games (MGS 4, Just Cause 2, Modern Warfare, Mafia 2, Fuel, and Midnight Club LA.) The problem is I traded my Xbox 360 for this PS3 and I don't know where to start, the games I got weren't really my choice as they were what the guy who traded me had, and I just need your help.

What are some of the games you would call a "must have" for this console? I'm into pretty much everything, and I have had a 360 since launch so I'm not too into cross console games as I have pretty much played everything I had interest in. So my question to you is what games and downloads should I look into? Or if you know of any accessories you really like that would be nice too.

Oh, and if you're interested the reason I traded my Xbox was because after 10 years of loyal service I finally got sick of their customer support team. They charged my credit card multiple times without even alerting me, and when I called they pretty much just told me that was how it was.

Do you like Racing? Motorstorm is brilliant, if not goddamn impossible to complete fully

Demons souls is another you could try as well as the Killzone series

Ratchet and Clank. My favorite installment of that series on the PS3 is A Crack in Time, because the gameplay is very polished. You might be a bit confused about the story if you haven't played any other ratchet and clanks, but I picked up on it well enough.

Uncharted 2 is also a good buy.

Demon's Souls may or may not be for you. My biggest gripe with it is how repetitive it gets, but I don't play it in large chunks so that doesn't bother me too much. There's the high difficulty you need to consider before buying it.

Uncharted 1 & 2, Little Big Planet (best played with a mate), Killzone 2 (unleash the power of the PS3), Heavy Rain (for it's epic score and story), Ratchet and Clank (a must have anyway)

Start with these.

Sweet, I recently got a PS3 as well. I still play my xbox more, but the PS3 still has some good games (like Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2). And I have been watching an abnormal amount of Blu-Ray movies, more than any normal person should watch anyway...

..um.. I've been reviewing mostly ps3 games for friends for a while. The short list, imo, should be:
-Demon's Souls.
-Uncharted 2.
-WipEout HD
-Heavenly Sword(Ninja Theory, same as upcoming Enslaved) & Lair (Factor 5's last game - Rogue Squadron games, etc).
-Katamari Forever.
-Pixeljunk Shooter.
-flOw
-Heavy Rain.
-Yakuza 3.

(Shameless plug for my reviews: http://www.honestgamers.com/fleinn/subsreport.html )

..MAG and Killzone 2 are extremely good technology-demos on their own, but unfortunately not very good games. Plagued with strange patches and lag, thanks to no client filtering, and so on.

But make sure you find the "4d ad" thing Guerrilla Games made after the entire "CGI fiasco". "Behind the Bullet", or something like that. It's a realtime engine render of the scene they made the tv-spot advertisement of. That you can slow down and speed up, look at the various filters they use, switch around the camera angles a little, things like that. There's a few commentator tracks by different developers as well. Save for a small number of static resources, that's how the game actually looks when it plays. Lighting-engine is unbelievable.. animation.. ridiculously good. And not only on the cutscenes, just to point that out. The sound-engine also is fantastic.. lots of ps3 titles have seriously high quality sound production (Lair, Uncharted 2, Wipeout, for example) with consistent use of dynamic as well as well-placed scripted surround effects. It's something that doesn't get mentioned too often, but an uncompressed surround track isn't common on consoles or PC games. But Sony has a few very good people doing sound together with the various studios. And.. there's space on the blu-ray, and so on. And you really can't deny the results of that, even if you don't have many good things to say about the platform or Sony...

I actually quite liked Demons Souls on the PS3. Killzone isn't "brilliant" and the single player game is actually fairly terrible but the multiplayer game had one very good idea on display where the objective in each game gets shifted around several times (seven if memory serves) and the winning team is the one that completes the majority of the objectives. This could include multiple point king of the hill, simple team deathmatch, objective destruction and so forth.

Really, the only problem I had with Killzone 2 was in the wretched balance and a controller that left my hands in pain after only a few games. The former may have been balanced since I played (the first several weeks of it's release) but there were silly issues like the snipers were given a weapon readily capable of killing in a single shot (to anywhere on the body) and were also given the ability to be all but invisible when standing still. Objectives in many cases tended to dramatically favor one side over the other thanks to map design and objective placement. The fact that you could place temporary spawn points directly inside the enemy spawn location often meant that the game would go to the first team to place a beacon inside the enemy spawn.

Infamous was also quite good if you like the open world superhero sort of game. Heavy Rain is certainly worth playing, even if isn't a particularly good game or story. It should be noted that I could not really recommend purchasing Heavy Rain for more than the 40 bucks I paid as I played the game in one sitting (around 6 hours) and will almost certainly never play it again.

I'd also recommend anything by the Pixel Junk guys.

motorstorm: pacific rift is a blast if you like arcady flashy suspensfull totaly over the top racing game's. (everybody does just get it already)

littlebigplanet: it's honestly one of the most creative, jaw-dropping games around, maybe wait for littlebigplanet 2 to come out though, that looks EVEN better

the ratchet and clank series: is totaly worth checking out, it'll make a nice difference from GoW and Cod and I think you get what I'm saying, it's a coulourfull lighthearted humorous game with heaps of epicness just waiting to be unleashed on you.

Warhawk: it's like a balanced out WWII crossover with halo. It's 3th person, heaps of fun, completely balenced, the vehicles work and best of all IT'S ONLY 20? !!! what are you waiting for, go get it.

I got mine 2 weeks ago...i got God of War 3 (had to know how it ends...the first two (or rather first one) was EPIC!!!

I also got InFamous because i'm way into comic book/superhero games...although it pretty much controls like a 3rd person shooter with no target-lock, and i'm horrible with shooters...if i thought i'd be able to get by on more Melee i'd probably like it more (just an fyi)

I mostly got it (and i'm not ashamed to admit it) for the game i preordered: DC Universe Online...

What loss exactly? M$ has been bad to me since day 1, the way I see I have actually made a substantial gain.

And thank you very much for the advice everyone! I have a much better idea now of where I should start off with my new console.
