and I have to wonder, why is this game not super popular? It seems like a near perfect Post-Apacolyptic RPG but it has been overshadowed by others (cough*Fallout 3*cough). Does anyone know why this game isn't as popular as it should be?

Seriously, it's great, between hunting for artifacts, raiding bases, running from emissions, and shooting stuff, it is just sooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo*many o's later*oooooooood.

Personally, I like it more than Fallout 3, though a few more phenomena places would be nice.

It had its time of high popularity - but I would say its lack of console presence when anyone with a 360 or PS3 can go out and play Fallout 3/New Vegas is a huge factor.
But Clear Sky has almost bottom PC stats so why do people never play that one?

Ha ha oh my

Oh wait your serious, let me laugh harder, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Those are min specs, meaning the game will run[footnote]definition of run is boot up and walk around at 10fps[/footnote]

The game is not to popular because its not a very well known game outside of the PC community, just like Thief(all my love in one game). Blame it on consoles as well since those are simpler to game on than PC for most people.

Normally I would say this is trolling but it seems more like obscure humour. It runs on my definition of bottom PCs. (Which actually translates into an average PC for most people)

#1: It's Russian. (not American)
#2: It's rough. Not a lot of ammo, the game isn't all-action all-the-time, pretty easy to get yourself killed.

I heard the next one is going to consoles, it will most likely be very popular. I think it will surprise.

Not trolling, I've run it on a computer that will theoretically run it but NOPE. Its saddening that it won't but new computer in a couple of months anyway. Getting Shadow of Chernobyl and Complete 2009 as soon as I can.

It's not incredibly popular because it's not multi-platform. Many more people on consoles are vocal about the games they play. You can go into my school's lunchroom at lunchtime and find at least ten conversations about recalling games in Codblops, discussing tactics in Codblops, and watching YouTube videos about Codblops.

The thing is that if the game was ported to consoles there would be much more work needed for control and graphic optimizations. For instance, the interfaces, such as inventory, map, and quests would all need to be much more simplified. Compare the large grid you get to manage your inventory in STALKER with some list that you have to scroll through that even patronizes you by pausing the game in Fallout 3/NV. You'd also probably not be able to lean.

Plus since the majority of console gamers (don't *****: I said "the majority," not "all") are gaming's lowest common denominator, many people wouldn't buy it because the voice acting and some animations and subtitles are terrible. Well, they might considering how well the FO3/NV and Oblivion sold. Not sure.

Also, it's not a roleplaying game at all. It's actually an adventure game.

I'd suggest that in a world where games are getting easier and more newbie friendly, STALKER has no qualms about killing you. Killing hard and fast, over and over. That puts some off, but if you can get past that, there's a great game in there.

Also, you'll have to learn that most people can pop you in the head from half a mile away, when, at the start, you'll have trouble putting a hole in a barn door made of cardboard.

It also is, at least on Steam, seemingly a bit buggy, to point where it just won't run on some PCs no matter what you do.

Shadow over Chernobyl (MODS) > Call of Pripyat >Oblivion Lost 1918> Clear sky

I haven't seen any mods that make me want to reinstall pripyat. The engines in all 3 games are amazing, and have held up extremely well.
Get out of here, stalker

I'm not sure that's so true. Clear Sky was that amount of terrible, but I found that SoC and CoP had enemies with aim as good as yours, at least, so long as yours doesn't suck.

Great question. My answer of why more people don't like it is that you cant run around knifing every thing to death in one hit after quick-scoping their mom.
But I will agree that the STALKER games are amazing and a nice refresh from the same market for COD.

note* COD is not that bad of a game (it's just too unfair and hyped)

I'd enjoy it more if it didn't take me hours to run places in order to turn in quests.

Because most people don't like games when you have to have Fire and Quick Save bound to the same key.

I do love this game though.
I have hours of playtime on both of the stalker games I have. I prefer it infinitely over Fallout, though fallout is fun...

Fallout never really had that uneasy feeling you get pretty much everywhere unexplored in stalker, I like how you feel utterly helpless in some points in stalker, something that doesn't really occur in fallout.
