Anyway, I'd appreciate any reccomendations, as long as it doesn't include any Brown/Gun Metal Grey macho Space Marine clones oozing testosterone all over the place. :)
I hope you know that's about 90% of the 360's games. I would recommend the new Prince of Persia. It's only about 20 dollars and the parkour is very fun, even if the combat isn't great. That's actually the only one I can think of right now. You are very picky considering almost all of my 360 games that I like are either first person shooters, zombie games, or gun metal grey macho space marines.

For hack and slash I would definitely recommend Bayonetta. If you like the DMC/Ninja Gaiden type hack and slash, Bayonetta tops them all IMHO. But Ninja Gaiden 2 is also good, frustrating, but good. And another hack and slash that was surprisingly good was the Xmen origins: Wolverine, the movie sucked but the game was really good.

You said you didn?t want any FPS, but I don?t know how you feel about 3rd person shooters, so I will recommend a couple for you. I personally loved Dead Space. It is a very well made game with an amazing atmosphere, and a solid shooter. And Issac is not testosterone enhanced, and he is a space engineer, not a marine. Batman: AA is also very good, some of the best melee mechanics I have ever seen in a game, plus it is all the old cast from the Batman animated series, and that makes it even more awesome.

As for a good RPG on the 360, Mass Effect is the obvious answer. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are 2 more obvious answers, but if you don?t want FPS on your console, I would stick to ME. I would also highly recommend Assassin?s Creed. I liked the first one even though it is very repetitive, and the second one improved vastly on the first. I would NOT recommend Fable 2. It is not as good as the first and is the buggiest game I?ve ever seen on a console.

From the Xbox live arcade I would recommend a couple of games for you as well. Braid is awesome. Some of the best puzzles I have seen in a game, ever. ?Splosion Man is also some Nintendo old school platforming that I found fun. I would also recommend Geometry wars 2: Retro Evolved, another arcade style game. I think all of these have demos you can try.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I'm abit iffy on aiming with a joystick in general (guns that is, if say, the RPG was in first person, aiming would obviously be done with the joystick, which I could handle), which Is why my copies of Fallout, CoD etc.. are all on the PC, yeah I was looking at Mass Effect in the store as well, what's the replayability like? Any overly annoying controls etc..?

One of us..one of us..one of..

I don't know why I am chanting..anyway.

Mass Effect is something you should look at ASAP pretty much. If you like Assassin's Creed then you have that and it's polished sequel. Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2 (not a must but you might as well grab it since it's only on the 360 at the moment) and Batman: AA

Can't think of anything else at the moment other than; enjoy, be safe and carry a big gun!.

Heh, well, I mainly grabbed the 360 for the simple fact that it was the cheaper console (and the game bundle was a nice addition), I'm not completely against FPSs on the console (although I still stand by the fact that aiming with a joystick is frustrating), just the overly generic ones, Halo, Gears of War etc..., it's all the same tough guys in big suits of armor carrying big guns killing big aliens for some reason, and the story is generally pretty weak too.

Yeah I played the PS2 Prince of Persia and loved it, might grab the 360 version.

Well, there's seems to be a general consensus here, will definitely be picking up Assasin's Creed 1 & 2, Mass effect 1 & 2 and possibly Fable 2 =]

The only annoying part of Mass effect is the scenes in the Maco (sp?). It is the vehicle that you ride around it outside of your ship on plante surfaces. Those parts can be annoying, but the controls in regular combat mode are pretty solid, not the best in the world, but definately not the worst. As far as replayability, I've played through it twice (once on the "good" side, and once on the "bad") and enjoyed both playthroughs.

I would restate Dead Space, someone said not scary, and I would disagree. Now after capter 6 or so, yes, the scare factor wears off and it is more action, but good action (but there are some later chapters that ramped up the scare factor, for me anyway).

And Batman AA and Assassin's Creed series, very good.

If you wanted something hacky and slashy, you could pick up Bayonetta. Or if you wanted something a bit more masculine looking - wait a while for Dante's Inferno. (The only sting in the tail here is that they are new* and will hurt your wallet.)

* = Dante's Inferno is not out just yet, but it shall be out in about two weeks time.

I would also recommend grabbing Oblivion or Mass Effect for an RPG. They'll have come down in price a fair bit, so they should be nice and cheap. The leveling system in Oblivion isn't a case of constant grinding as the monsters will change in accordance to your difficulty setting.

Mass Effect isn't bad as far as RPGs go, but I found the action a little dry. Though the sequel to it is coming out fairly soon, and the devs behind it say the combat will be much better.

Hope I was able to help.

There are a few games you might want to try, based loosely on your criteria:

-Lost Odyssey (I'm violating my own rule with this as I've yet to play it to significant degree, yet my older bro loves it)

-[PROTOTYPE] (combines hack'n'slash with some light platforming)

-Fable II (interesting game yet may violate some rule of your criteria)

-Bayonetta (BEST. HACK'N'SLASH. OF. DECADE. SO FAR. IMHO)

-Saints Row 2 (Not really in description but still a fun sandbox)

-Assassins Creed II (Also the first if not played yet)

-X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Surprisingly great tie in game. Though again I've only really
played the demo)

-Ninja Gaiden II (fantastic yet frustrating hack'n'slash

There are a few great Downloadable games as well

-Shadow Complex (great Metroid/Castlevania style game with its own unique feel)

-'Splosion Man (My favorite out of the list and a fun little platformer)

-Castle Crashers (2nd fav out of this list and THE definitive co-op hacky slashy game on XBOX, just make sure your friend is in the room)

-Dishwasher: Dead Samurai (a great combination of old school 2d h'n's with new school Ninja Gaiden flair)

-Watchmen: End is Nigh (See the first part of my X-Men Origins Wolverine reccomendation)

-The Maw (Quirky little puzzle game that is quite charming)

-Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness Episode 1 & 2 (Great PA story mixed with fun Mario RPG-esque battle system. Bit expensive for downloadables but provide 12+ hours each)

-I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1NIT!!!1!! (forgiving the abominable title, a fun twin stck shooter with a great soundtrack from the oft overlooked and under appreciated community games section of XBOX LIVE. Only 80 ms points to boot)

Games that do somewhat violate your criteria yet are awesome anyway:

-Rainbow Six Vegas (no joke, probably my favorite FPS for the XBOX. Great action, smart friendly and enemy A.I., and a unique and colorful look are among the many reasons to get this game)

-Mass Effect (If you don't already have it for PC)

-Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (great western themed FPS)

And those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry for the length but I hope you've gained something from this. Welcome to the Escapist by the way!

Edit: Damn! When I started typing there were literally 2 replies. Maybe I did over think this a little bit. sorry for double post as well.

EDIT EDIT: Tried to make it more readable, hope it helps

[PROTOTYPE} is a very, very, very fun little sandbox game cursed with high expectations on release. Worth buying none the less

Arkham Asylum is one of the few games that lives up to its hype, I own the PS3 version but also beat the 360 version

I would highly recommend Dead space (unless you dislike horror games, mass effect, dragon age and Assassins creed I and II. I would also recommend shadow complex as an XBLA title as it is very fun (similar to metroid) and only $15.

BTW: Were did you get brutal legend as part of the elite bundle and maybe you should give your computer specs seeing as a lot of 360 games are also available on PC.

A lot of whats good on the x-box can be subjective, but one game you get is Saints Row 2, it's platinum now so it should be cheap. It's a sandbox GTA style game, but it capture the old school ridiculous fun of the early games, rather than the depressing-ness of 4.

Plus the customization of your character is amazing, I've seen fat black pimps, fidgeting crack addicts, swarthy British thugs like something out of a guy ritchie movie and even a really hilarious cross dressing criminal (they use a man's body but a female voice and wore poorly fitting dresses)

Do NOT buy Dragon Age on a console if you can help it. Play it on a PC, it is much better.

OT: I would reccomend Borderlands to both FPS and RPG fans alike. Mass Effect (and soon ME2), Fallout 3, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed 2, The Force Unleashed and Prince of Persia are alos solid games for the 360. I'd also reccomend looking into Dante's Inferno come Febuary.

So what you're saying is you've never tried Halo or Gears.... your canned Yahtzee based generalization of both those titles indicates to me a prejudice... either that or you don't want to be seen as someone who actually likes those games. They're good fun for what they are, who gives a shit how many muscles your protagonist has. Also, Halo is about as far from Brown and Grey as you can get.

OT: Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, the original Crackdown is a lot of fun, Condemned and it's sequel, Dead Rising, Fable 2...
