So I just read the list of names the robot says in Fallout 4 and...

Well, I guess you can easily see what my name is.
You know what though... it causes a whole load of confusing hilarity.

Especially the part where Piper interviews you. It basically says "Shaun must save his son, Shaun!"

It really kills me sometimes. Both in a good and bad fashion.
My characters yells "Shaun", and I'm just like, "bro, please."

A shame that they didn't do the name. I mean, it was right there, and it could have been the perfect opportunity to have the son called "Junior." Oh well, I've heard they might add more names in the future. I mean, if you have fucking Mr. Fuckface, you should have Shaun and Shaun Jr!

EDIT: Although "Sir" is a lot more formal, and I prefer that.

Well. Now when I do play, I'm going to have to make my character Steve Rogers. Awoken from cryosleep to a strange world.

Well, my name isn't on the list, but 5 closely related ones are...

Also, apparently, Katniss. Well... Gotta keep up with what's popular, right? XD

Also, Marty (and McFly), Picard, kirk, and a ton of other stuff.

I'm kinda surprised they did this. Even though it's not exactly perfect, that list is fairly long...

The implications for dialogue recording surely aren't trivial.

Every character that ever refers to you by name would have to record versions of every name on that list...

Also, Why are some common things missing, but Catherine, Katharine and Katherine are all present? They are pronounced pretty similarly...

Did that happen because you can abuse a single version of it for all of them, and then just treat text variations as being the same word when pronounced?

I haven't been paying attention to any Fallout related news so I didn't even know about the name thing. I made a female character named Elena and when Codsworth said it aloud it was a bit of a WTF moment.

It's only the robot Codsworth who calls you by name, so it's slightly less impressive. But still, it's more than a lot of games do with the character name.

Oh, yeah, that sounds a lot more plausible.
Makes far more sense that way I suppose.

It is mildly disappointing though. XD

I went for Peter, to honour one of the fallen. It's odd that Codsworth calls you "Mr-" or "Mrs-" and then your first name rather than your surname.
It depends which of your names (first or second) he recognises. My character, Malcolm Fletcher, is called 'Mr Malcolm', but my mate's character, Bruce Campbell, is called 'Mr Campbell'.

While we're on the subject of Codsworth, my suspension-of-disbelief was strained a bit when I retuned to my house for the first time (fully expecting there to be a pile of rusty scrap metal in my house in place of Codsworth), only to find him very much alive and kicking and trimming the hedge 200 years after I last spoke to him.

So wait, you mean to tell me that in 200 years no raiders tried to raid Sanctuary? Or if they did, Codsworth was able to single-handedly take them all out? What?

Furthermore, I was a little peeved at how... 'human' I guess, Codsworth is. Like, he's fully aware of what's happened, and how much time has passed.
One of the charms of previous Fallout games was the way the robots often (if not, always) were completely unaware of what's happened, and were often still in 'pre-war' mode.

Hogan is on the list too, but didn't see it listed.

My brother, a dyed in the wool fan of classic WWF, made himself a blonde haired but balding man with a droopy moustache who has fled into the future to escape the scrutiny of the media armed with nothing but his pythons and endless supply of fake tan.

Whatcha gonna dooooo, wasteland?

Codsworth is both nuclear powered and armed with a flame thrower. I'm not sure much short of a Deathclaw or powered armour could outrun or outgun him. Given that Codsworth is chrome plated (as opposed to the usual Mr Handy white) and assigned to your family I expect his apparently high level of advancement to be plot relevant at some point.

Not like Fallout's never had a conspiracy in it before right?

I think if your Surname is on the list he'll go with that. I've seen videos of people using two names from the list and he says the last one if he can (if not, he goes with the first).
Oh, so you can put in a first name and surname and characters will still call you by your name? Cool. I was worried putting in a surname and first name would block me off from that. I'll keep that in mind for when I get the game.

I wish more games would just be like Shadowrun: Hong Kong and have me put in my first name, surname and possibly nickname separately.

Well they seem more concerned with pop culture references then real names, Stark, Draper, Ripley,

Wait a minute I just realized Iron Man was a Stark....My God

It's okay, people. "Anita" isn't on there.
We can all breathe easy now.
But now my dream of wandering the wasteland as a rogue feminist, killing all the male NPC's, is ruined. It was basically going to be a gender bent version of Fury Road. 0/10 stars.

But, yeah, I'm curious to hear my name spoken in a video game. This should be interesting. Or maybe I'll try a pacifist playthrough as Mr. Rogers.

did an in-game character having the ability to say your name make you feel any more immersed? I know I smiled a bit when Cogsworth first said it.
I squealed like a little girl when it happened because I had no idea it even could. It. Was. AWESOME.

Dunno about immersion, that's not really a consideration for me when I can hack machines by randomly picking words.

My first name is there but my surname isn't as I doubt they'll have Polish last names there.

Really dumb that while they have my dorky, uncommon name (Craig), there are a lot of common names that are somehow missing, like Kyle. HOW?
Its probably because of the companion Craig Boon from F:NV, a bunch of names reference older games, like ashur.
