i just watched avatar (series) again through the netflix instawatch thing, and having seen it in its entirety, with a more mature take on it (i was like 12 when the series ended i think), i want to say that this is probably my favorite tv series as of right now. i just find everything about it to be so well done, and for a nickelodeon show i think it pushed the boundaries. the artwork i found to ba amazing, and the script was very intelligent and well written, especially for a kids show.

maybe im being a little bit overzealous, but what do you guys think? did you love/like the show? not your cup of tea?

Tell me , escapists, what did you think of Avatar: The Last Airbender?

A great show, and the creators are working on another series in the same universe.

Loved the animated series. I choose not to corrupt my ideal about it with the movie, though.

A wonderful show, to be sure. I watched all three seasons with Netflix DVDs, but I really need to own it, myself...

Zuko's mother, Ursa, disappeared (it's suggested that she assassinated Fire Lord Azulon and went into hiding), and Zuko suspects his father knows where she is.

personally i understand that, but what i dont understand is the fact that in the scene after that zuko is a server in iroh's tea shop.

A great show, probably the best that Nickolodeon (or whatever) has ever made. Can't wait for the new series, but I'll pass on the movie adaptions.

I love it. I prefer Spectacular Spider-Man, which got canceled after two seasons...

Anywho, I loved it. It's an American show with Japanese animators so it makes fun of it's design as I do. Which is frequently. The art direction is actually amazing. The choreography is so unbelievably fantastic that I can't even describe it, the powers are varied and very well done, the story's pretty damn good. The only problem I have is that they left a bunch of plot threads that I'm more than a little interested in. It's nice to know that they're making another avatar cartoon.

Oh I loved the series. I didn't really get into it until the 2nd season b/c I thought, "Oh its Nickelodeon trying to pull a serious cartoon out of their butts, what with the wacky crap getting out of control". It really is one of my favorite shows/cartoons of all time. Great story and universe, honestly. I'm 26 so its kinda sad to say that I watch cartoons still, but being in animation I think I've got an excuse. :p

The movie was just so....disappointing. That's an understatement, but I want to like it...I just can't. Damn, you Shamylamylamylamylan.

Yeah the sequel is set for next summer. Though I hear its only going to be a 12 episode miniseries. Also sad that one of my favorite directors isn't going to be on the project. He did "The Library, Appa's Lost Days, The Guru, Sokka's Master, The Runaway, The Firebending Masters.." Here's an interview with the creators:

I agree. I was really kinda hoping to see what they did w/ Azula (kinda just left her crying and spewing fire) and if Zuko actually found his mother. Heck that's probably a story that they could stretch out itself.

The furking insane fire family? I would watch that. I mean, Iroh was probably my favorite character next to Toph. And, yeah, Azula's schizophrenia and paranoia were the second creepiest things I've ever seen in a kids show.

Vampire Joking howling like a madman while showering in human blood is the creepiest. Probably wont be topped.

I really like the series. There were times when it was obvious that its somewhat kid friendly, but it still deals with some pretty heavy shit. War, occupation, prison camps, genocide, puppet governments, honor, morality... they're all in there. And they were handled quite well. I'm psyched for the 2nd series that will be coming out.

Man, I loved Avatar. I'm too much of a lazy bum to have watched every single episode, but this thread may have inspired me to get the collection.
