Anyway, that must have been shit a day.
Someone killed themselves (and harmed nobody else in the process) and that is the fault of guns existing? That makes less sense then the people that blame violent behavior on violent media. At least there there is some kind of connection (monkey see monkey do idea).
He took a fucking AK-47 into school and shot himself with it. So OK, no one was shot this time, but have you seen the number of school shootings that have taken place in America? It's ludicrous.
Blame the culture not the guns.

He probably wanted to shoot up the school and changed his mind at the last minute. Lucky you, tragic waste of life, but you can't deny how lucky some random students are right now.

A tornado went like 300 yards from my school and we had to go into the halls and crouch down near the lockers. Scariest moment of my life

First off, a suicide isn't a "shooting" (in the sense of the word you're implying by the title) so there wasn't anything to survive. Anyway, I find it more amazingly weird/stupid to shoot oneself with an AK. I mean aside from the fact that shooting yourself is stupid, doing so with an assault rifle makes little to no sense. Unless he was planning to shoot up the school initially so he pulled a Van Gogh?

Pfft, that's not a school shooting, that's some asshole trying to publicly commit suicide.

A school shooting would be if he sprayed 29 rounds into other students, then used the last one to kill himself as the cops got there.

Why would he shoot himself with an AK? I don't know Texas gun laws but I can't imagine getting a hold of an assault rifle/ammo would have been cheap. Here is a link for anyone that's interested.

@FaceFaceFace It is a good habit to post link(s) about certain topics(this being one).
4 years ago I bought 2 WASR AK-47s and 1000 rounds of ammo for them. Gave one to a friend as a wedding gift. Total cost I don't think broke $700 for everything. Walked in - filled out the background form - they ran me through the FBI database and I was out the door in like 15 minutes.
GOD DAMN MAN! In Canada they're restricted from the public unless you pass 2 separate firearm's tests.
Please keep in mind these are semi-auto. They are no diff than any other rifle really.

To get an automatic AK-47 you are talking spending around $20,000 or more. They are legal to own - but they are not for everyone. It drives me nuts reading people talking about why did this guy have an automatic and Texans must be insane to hand out automatic assault rifles. Automatic weapons are heavily watched - monitored by the government and its a very lengthy process in getting one. Trust me when I say my 30 06 is really no different than my AK. Well it is more accurate than my Ak
Your .30-06 is probably quite a bit more powerful seeing how the barrel length is greater uses a larger charge!

Texas + Gun Nuts = My Surprise-o-meter: 0%

Yeah, the US needs to fix their "everyone gets a gun" policy, they're behind Brazil in gun-related homicides in the global charts, that just means 2nd place.

And why did he kill himself with an AK-47? An assault rifle suicide isn't that normal and can impossibly be as "practical" as the one of a handgun.

EDIT: Here? No bomb threats, gun threats or anything here, worst was when a techer killed himself and his ex when just driving away from school to do that.

They'll still blame it on video games even if the person in question didn't even game, I'm guessing.
I've never experienced anything similar. The only closest thing I can think of is after a performance, all the doors in the school were locked and the security cameras were flicking. I shouted, "THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING!" and everyone just laughed.
If anything like this happened to me, my luck is so bad I'll probably be the first one to die.

I see this more being about how easy it was for this guy to just get an AK-47 and walk straight into a school campus and then shoot himself. To which i ask really? how's that possible?

Something like this occurs in my school regularly but with bombs. Only once has the bomb actually done harm, most are either False alarms, or the person was an idiot and posted about their plans on Facebook or something.

An AK 47? wow thats pretty hardcore. Everyone seems to be making a big deal about that if its true. Maybe he isn't a gun expert, don't take it to heart.

I'm sorry to hear he killed himself but at least noone else was harmed.

Did you.... See it? I guess not though or I guess you would have said.

Not really. The only altercations I have had with guns was when they were pointed in my general direction ... which happened when I was out of the country of citizenry.

And in the end all they did was take 5000 pesos off me and butted me in the face with the rifle. by the time I regained my senses from the mild concussion and got over the dizzyness they were already gone.

The gun (looked like an old 30-06, but I don't know my firearms) was probably unloaded or completely non-functioning, but it's safer to just hand over your wallet rather than tempt fate I find.

He got an AK47 from where exactly? I didn't think they sold them in vending machines on campus.
Remember where this takes place. Here in Texas, everyone has at least one automatic weapon.

I thought texans were given guns with every purchase of normal everyday goods, buy your weekly groceries, get a free gun...

So, no problems if he jumped off a building. Whole different story.

You can't seriously believe inanimate objects in any way force people to do things. They can make it easier to kill many people in a run and gun situation, and yes those would not occur without weapons. So there have been roughly 30 total school shootings in the US in that sense. There have been roughly 35-40 other incidents which where specific murder suicides. These would have occurred anyway, with a different weapon.

Firearms where more readily available in the past and school shootings where pretty much unknown (the first in the US was in the 60s) Now it's very difficult for younger people to legally acquire firearms, and less per capita exist in the country, and you find more school shootings.

It's a culture thing, when tons of causes, to single out one such as firearms existing is as foolish and idiotic as video games being blamed for every crime under the sun.

I agree on both accounts
