Wow. Michael Bay certainly seems to have a low opinion of his viewer's intelligence doesn't he?
Its completely mindless. Most of the characters are super annoying. The story likes to randomly change, usually without telling you until later. And it fells sloppily put together.
One part in particular bugged me. I don't know how to put a spoiler thing in here so consider this a SPOILER. You know that part when the Decepticon is on the pyramid and gets shot off by the battleship's rail gun? Why the heck didn't they do that the second time when the 'fallen' was on the pyramid too? It seemed pretty effective the first time!
For the sake of discussion, what was your opinion of the movie, Escapist?
Keep in mind that the writers ran out in the middle of filming or editing or something, so that had a huge effect on the outcome of the film. That would explain it's sloppiness amongst other things. People tend to ignore this fact for the sake of not looking like a Bay fanboy...
While there are a lot of things wrong with the film that make it crappy, it's best to remember that it's not all Bay's fault, for there were things that happened behind the scenes that played as much of an impact on the film than Micheal's directing did, if not more...
So Does Micheal Bay have a low opinion on the intellect of his viewers? Who knows... If anything, a movie is only as smart as the people are who are making it, but with all the things that happened during the making of the film, I doubt the movie can be any sort of example of how Bay sees his fans/viewers.
There is only so much you can do with the time given to you, and when things tend to go wrong, unexpected changes are to be made, which may or may not affect the final product. Having Shia Lebuff break his hand in a car accident, causing for a scene where Megan Fox pulls a medpack out of her ass to put a cast on him, and having the writers or whoever run out near the end of production, amongst other things meant that a lot had to be changed within a short amount of time.
The end result ended up being what Transformers 2 is today, a ball-gargled mess with semi-racist robots. Well, the racist robots was just a bad idea there, amongst other various bad calls, but take away the strike, the broken hand, and whatever else went wrong, and we would have a different film to trash instead of the one we're trashing today.
As some one who has worked in film production, it pains me to see that so many people ignore these sorts of problems for the sake of "Herp derp, Bay is a dumbass!" comments. Is he a dumbass for including giant robot testicles and annoying ass gangster robots? Yes, but when things fall out of his control, then it isn't his fault.
