So...I just woke up, confused.

I had a weird dream. It wasn't weird because it was outlandish; but, rather, because it was real. When I started sleeping lighter, and wasn't just snoozing like a brick, I had a dream: I woke up on a couch. My surroundings unfamiliar. I saw some faces. People who looked at me like I grew up with them all since I was old enough to be sapient. Even though they weren't real, I still felt sad inside, telling them I didn't know who they were. I told them, in the dream, that I had amnesia. That allowed me to ask some basic questions. Who are you, where am I, what's my name, what's your name, who's that girl, who's that guy, what are their names, etc. I was female. Green pullover hoodie, white top underneath, khaki pants, and plain socks. My name: Samantha. The guy who had paid the most careful attention to me turned out to be "my" boyfriend. In this universe, we had been going out for three years, and were the best of friends. His name was Alec. The weirdest part about the dream, was that it was plain. Realistic. Like I had woken up from the Matrix, but life outside the Matrix was just as dull, or duller. Felt...strange, having a female body. I could actually feel the entirety of the shape. Strange in a good sort of way. Which is undeniably creepy, since I'm male. Also felt weird opening my mouth to speak, and having a pleasant girl's voice come out. I eventually went to the bathroom to look into the mirror. I looked...pretty. Cute, but not superficial. No makeup. Brilliant green eyes, and medium brown hair. I had my hair up in a medium ponytail.

Onto what was going on. I woke up on the couch, that's been established. After I got acquainted with my part this world, the other guy and girl left. One was a mutual friend of all of ours, Rob, and the other was Alec's sister, Rebecca. They had to go shopping, because we had no food. Apparently, we all lived together. Small house. Possibly an apartment. Two bedrooms, a smaller side room, a small kitchen, a full bath, and a living room, large enough to put in a table, and still have enough room for a couch and television. I was hungry, and didn't even want to acknowledge that I was inside a dream, so I set about making some food. I was still very much me on the inside, given how much ingenuity was required for this next stunt: I took apart an old, broken waffle machine, to get one of the grids, attached a handle onto the back, and boom! Waffle iron. Just use a pan like you're making pancakes, but apply the iron. Pan waffles. After eating, hugging Alec, and finally starting to get curious with the rest of this dream world, I went to the bathroom to see what I looked like. After I grinned when I saw myself, I woke up, because my cat started meowing at me to feed her.

I have to admit, though...I usually don't care, or am glad to wake up from dreams; but this one...I dunno. It was interesting. Like I woke up as someone else. I wanted to keep dreaming, and explore their world. Now it's essentially dead...

So, Escapists, discuss. What do you think about this? Have you ever had a(blank) similar dream(s)?

Personally, the closest I've ever came, before this of course, to a dream feeling real, was that time I woke up in a dream, to a radio yelling at me (Razor 6-5) to give an advancing friendly unit covering fire.

Best part about the title, is how you don't know if I mean when I woke up in the dream, or when I actually woke up.

That's a pretty good one. One time I had a dream that made me infatuated with the woman who was in it for like two weeks. I couldn't even get her name out of my mind.

Can't say I've ever had anything like that. But back in High School after a sporting event (usually Hockey or Football) I would dream that I was out on the playing field, except my bedroom was there too. I would actually move around my bed and room because I was trying to play the game or something, but I've never been anybody else in my dreams.

Any "real" dreams I've had have always had one thing that made me question it, like nobody could talk, or a spontaneous water fight in our Auto Shop

One weird part of the human emotions: Caring for things that don't actually exist. It's the reason I'm very protective of my allies; and will even give a Big No if an NPC I care about dies, in a video game.

The complexity and detail of the dream (and the sci-fi nut in me) makes me think this may have been more of an out of body experiance, or did some sort of whack consciousness trading. Maybe there was a girl out there who was dreaming of having morning wood and bad breath, with a cat meowing mysteriously in the background. Then woke up wondering who the hell took apart the waffle maker.

OT: Yes I have experienced that. It usually revolves around some girl (not one that I actually know or have seen) that perplexes me in the dream, which makes me want to know more. But I always wake up before I can really learn anything and I can never get back to that dream, it is kind of sad-making

Can I change my answer to this one? Because after reading the entire OP this is the best answer for the topic.

From my understanding of dreams you were definitely lucid dreaming. Also everyone in your dreamworld is someone you've seen before but probably don't remember because they just passed you walking down the street or something. Perhaps you can actually meet the people from your dream(including "yourself") and find out how accurate it was. Whenever I have such dreams I rarely realize I am dreaming until I start thinking something like "I would be cool/terrible if ____________ happened" and then it does.

This reminds me of the rare occassion in which I put some effort into something, namely learning to control dreams. The process goes thusly:

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What am I doing? Is that possible? What are others doing? It that possible?
2. Where am I? What does the enviroment look like? Is that right/possible?
3. With who am I here? Is that possible?
4. How did I get here?
5. What was I doing half an hour ago?

Ask yourself these questions a few times a day, for several weeks, until it becomes a habit. Then you'll ask them during your sleep as well, and once you realise it's a dream, the sky's not the limit anymore XD.

I did this for two days before I got bored, then I had a dream wherein I flew to the top of a tree on the back of a life-sized swallow(so... really small) and for some reason I started asking these questions, and by the time I reached the second one I had already realised it being a dream, got excited about it and then woke up, cursing myself for it...

I should really go try all that again... Nah, I'll go back to Europa Universalis III now. Conquering the world is much more fun.

What was I doing again? Hey! but that's not possib....[wakes up]

Not something like that, but sveral times I've woken up from realistic dreams that were just better than real life and went "DAMN IT!".

My weirdest dream was when I woke up in the middle of the night with a weird mixture of extreme sadness and crying whilst close to laughing. I don't know what the dream was about, I just woke up like that.

My most interesting dream in the last year was dodging rockets in slow motion to the Team Fortress 2 Theme tune. I didn't even know the theme tune very well.

I have lucid dreaming I think because I have a light on in my room, therefore my mind is still partly awake from the irriation of the light. Unfortunately, when I realise something is a dream, which I usually do, it gets very fragile. Sometimes I'll blink knowing that if I open my eyes I'll be awake. It's hard to control the dream world, and even if I don't blink I often reach points where it's almost as if I'm half blind, I can still feel the dream world but see nothing because my mind struggles to build an image because it knows I should be awake.

Yeah. Like I said, I felt really sad telling them, they who looked at me like we grew up as kin, that I didn't know who they were. The look on Alec's face especially...Man. I nearly shed a tear. Hell, it looked like he nearly shed a tear.

I woke up one morning and found I was the only one home. Not only that, but it was completely dark.
It turns out I had slept through the day into the night and my family had left to go somewhere...

Huh. That's undeniably a unique perspective. It's like the Matrix crossed our (Me and the girl I was in dream's) wires for an hour. Stupid computer...

Still. That would be crazy. And then she wakes up, the waffle machine is in pieces, the pancake mix is gone, there's a rinsed pan in the sink, and her friends think she has amnesia...

Firstly, after a long time of unregistered observing of this site's forums, this post finally motivated me to register and join.
Secondly, pretty dang cool dream there man.
I've had a few like this. When I bother to remember my dreams (I find that most dreams fade from my memory within 30 minutes unless I make a conscious effort to remember) they usually fall in two categories- 1) extremely random, or 2) super real (like this one)

Just out of curiosity, how long did this dream last? When I have dreams like this they tend to last far longer than the amount of time spent sleeping. Anything from full days, to entire weeks, and even one that lasted a year in dreamtime -well, my mind said "year" but I could only account for a months worth of events.
It is kinda of sad, you feel like you get just start to get to know these people when you wake up. I usually find myself hoping that the next night I'll dream it again. I'll fight waking up to stay in them, using every last shred of willpower to ignore anything trying to wake me up. It never works for long though.

Welcome to the forum, (-Whisper-leave while you still can) No, really welcome.
OT: Weird dream indeed, I usually forget my dreams, nightmares on the otherhand I tend to remember. I once dreamed I was drowning and that day I went swimming in the local pool and got stuck in a filter thing with my foot and really drowned. I was dead for like half a minute when my father, who is a paramedic brought me back.

I'm convinced I see the future in my dreams sometimes... no, seriously.

Not like huge events or anything, just short sequences where nothing interesting really happens (they usually turn up by splicing into a dream I'm already having.; I'll be dreaming, then I'll suddenly cut away to a different place with different people where something completely asinine happens that has nothing to do with what I was dreaming about before, and they never last longer than a minute or two, but the I'll just cut straight back into the first dream I was having as if it had just been out on pause or something)

Then sometime in the future (it can be as early as the morning after, but the furthest one I had was the first one of these dreams, which I only remembered because it was so random and unusual at the time, didn't recreate itself in reality until 10 years after the dream) the thing I saw in the dream will happen and every detail will be identical to the dream. These are just completely day-to-day things that when in context would slip by unnoticed if they didn't trigger flashbacks to when I had the dream.

I think I might need to make my own thread cos the world needs to hear about this shit.
