Whoever made the game clearly doesn't understand the fundamental workings of doors.

I guess this might be kind of spoilers? So I'll hide it.

Ok so Dana...poor Dana, I feel sorry for her. She's going to have a very hard life ahead of her, seeing as she hasn't grasped the workings of a doorknob and locks. Seriously, she got locked inside her own room. Now, I don't know how they make doors outside of the US, but I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume they function pretty much the same everywhere on the planet. You can't lock someone inside their own room. Hell you can't lock them inside a room that isn't theirs! If this was a prison, sure, but this isn't a prison, it's a dormitory! Fire safety codes don't let you build rooms for students where they are trapped inside and can't get out. A girl "locks" the door from the outside, and refuses to let her out. Ok, so maybe she's got a key as she's a roommate or something, fine, she can lock the door. But she doesn't actually bar the door in any way. She just stands in front of it, back to it, and crosses her arms, being pissed. Dana only has to turn the damn lock on the inside, and open the door, which swings inward I might add and poof, she's free. But no, she doesn't do this, she bangs on the door, asking to be left out, and then once you let her out she's like "I can't believe she locked me in my own room!" (-_-) Poor Dana. xD

I mostly teasing with this, as I really do enjoy the game and find it interesting, but damn that particular thing just cracked me the fuck up! I sat there just staring at the monitor, at a loss for words at how much of a logic fail it was! xD

I... I don't get it.

So i guess doors are different around the world. All my doors can be locked... and if you don't have the key, they stay locked. No matter the side you are on. (Well you could break them down, i guess - they are just room-doors - also i am a heavy male)

Whut?

There are plenty of doors in this world that work like the one you describe in the game.

Hell, my bedroom door works like that. If someone stole my key they could easily lock me inside and I would not be able to get out without the key. (Well, besides going out the window or kicking the door down, but you get the idea.)

Yes, there are locks which can always open from the inside, the front door of my previous home had one like that. But not all locks work like that.

I always laugh at those 'lock you from inside' doors, but looking at the previous two posters, it's common actually? Maybe it's a country thing, but I have never seen any of those in real life. that seems pretty dangerous.

the more you know. my eyes have been opened.

Ok, so where you live, on the inside of the door, there isn't a lever/switch/etc that you can manually turn to unlock the door and exit the building? Out of curiosity where do you 2 live? Because I've never seen a door like that in the US. Granted I haven't seen every door across the country, but every random public living facility I've been to, dorm/hotel/motel/apartment/etc allows the person inside the room, final decision on if the room is locked or not. To prevent exactly what you described Zhukov, where the occupant is trapped and unable to easily get out in case of an emergency.

I live in Australia.

And like I said, it depends on the design of the lock. Some have a knob or catch on the inside that allows you to always lock/unlock the door from the inside without a key. Some don't, they just have a keyhole on both sides.

I don't know about local fire and safety codes, but I live in a shared house and, like I said, the lock on my door can only be locked/unlocked with the key, regardless of which side you're on.

So, one of the houses I've lived in had a key lock on the outside of the room but the inside lock was melted shut. You could only lock/unlock it from the outside... Really made me wonder about the former residents.

Locks that can only be used with a key from either side are called Deadlocks and are made that way so if someone gets into your house etc through a window they cant open the door from the inside and take your crap but are not recommended because if their is a fire you have to waste some important seconds getting the key and unlocking the door.

Ah, maybe it is a geographical based thing then, interesting.

Bold for emphasis. See that's where it puzzles me, as this design, where you always have to have the key to lock/unlock from the inside of the door is what's odd. They don't make doors like that in the US, or at least none that I've ever seen in almost 40 years of life. I always assumed it was to prevent any deaths due to being trapped in a room, and unable to get out in case of fire. Seeing as if you woke up in the middle of the night, in a smokey room, you might be unable to find the key to get out, and thus burn alive. So, to prevent this from happening, the occupants of the room, simply need to turn a switch, no key required to unlock the door and get out. The outside of the door is as normal, and can only be locked by a key. The reason this puzzles me most, is the game uses this type door, in a public dormitory, which I find unlikely, at least in the US, which is where the game takes place.

I'm in the UK. I've seen one of those doors which could be locked from the outside, though it could be locked separately from the inside, too.
