if you have a fairly modern TV you can just hook your PC up via a DVI or HDMI cable.
if you buy a older PS3 you can have it run Linux

Why are we trying to sell you a PS3? Why can't you decide what to do with your own money? If it were me, I'd save the $150, and perhaps use it for something else later. I dunno, petrol money... Take a girl out to lunch/dinner... Go see a movie or two with your friends.

If you don't have an XBox 360, I'd say get one. I have a PC for mainly FPS/RTS/ Other games that play better on PC. And I have a console for games that play better with a controller.

And yes, I know I can use a gamepad, but I've had enough trouble that I just gave up.

So what do you want exactly? People listing worthwhile PS3 games? Because that's highly subjective and nobody but yourself knows what you enjoy.
I don't really see the point of this thread. Either you're interested enough in the PS3 exclusives and multiplatform stuff or you aren't.

If you like playing PC RPGs I highly reccommend Dark/Demon's Souls. if the PC port doesn't go through at least you'd have a PS3 to fall back on.

in addition if you're friends have PS3s then you've open up another way to game and have fun with them.

gamewise;

Demon's Souls
Dark Souls
Mortal Kombat
Red Dead Redemption
The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Metal Gear Solid 4 and HD collection (and Metal Gear Solid 1 on the PSN store for a complete main series)
Brutal Legend
Killzone 2 (haven't played 3)
Sonic Generations

plus any games you friends have so you can play together

So many exclusives...

I recommend you get it for the blu ray player and in case you need a gaming system.

A home console is a good way to avoid the demonic DRM that Ubisoft puts on PC games, like Assassin's Creed, & Driver.

And then there are games that don't make it to PC, and then with the right software, you can hook the PS3 pad to your computer and you have a solid gamepad.

Get the Blu-ray player. The PS3 is an outdated console and if you have a decent PC then you wont need it. The exclusives can be fun, but there's not enough to it to make it worth the extra cost.

PS3 probably has the best exclusives of any platform, unless you are a fan of Nintendo's first-paarty games. And I'm saying this as a 360 owner who prefers Microsoft.

Still, I'd probably just go with a regular blu-ray. PS3's games and stuff are great and all, but is it worth it? Meh.

It seems like the PS3 is kicking in the turbos at this point in the race, while the Xbox is slowing down.

They're getting a lot of the old PS2 library re-released, they're getting some good exclusives, and they've all but broken the Xbox's library of exclusives.

If these consoles last another few years, the PS3 is the way to go, because they seem to be strengthening themselves. If Microsoft and Sony come out with something new soon, however, it wouldn't quite be worth it.

So, on this issue, I say wait until after E3, because if no new consoles are announced there, you've got at least 3 years left with this generation.

Ratchet and Clank. Honestly, if you ever see an exclusive that calls to you it might be nice to be able to play it. Not only that, but it does have an internet browser if you're lazy like me and don't want to walk into the living room to look something up. Plus the exclusives look extremely pretty. I am a Sony fanboy, but with good reason, they do make good products, and while they do stumble sometimes (bluebacks, PSN hack)they do have some of the best game studios.

Let's see:
Uncharted 1,2, and 3
Resistance series
Ratchet and Clank series
Sly Cooper collection
Ico collection
Little Big Planet
It doesn't end there.

Lots of exclusives and really fun games.

*shrug* I'm in the same boat, but I beg to differ. I actually love the PS3 for it's wide arrange of exclusives. Platformers, shooters of all kinds, RPG's, adventure games and all kinds of experimental stuff on PSN.

I'd say it's well worth the extra cash, plus it's also a pretty handy mediacenter.

Why not buy a PS3 incase something bad happen to your PC ie graphic card broke or a huge virus brought it down unless you take great care of it?

Not sure of the price difference, but if it's reasonable I'd go with the PS3; sometimes you get that itch that only goofing off on a console can scratch, and the PS£ lets you do that vs. a BD player.

I got a 360 rather than a DVD player, and I dig the odd gem out of a bargain bin which I can play on that (also my SO has developed a real wide-on for dragon age, so she hogs it now...) It all comes down to what you're willing to pay for extra (possible) functionality.

Infamous 1 and 2, and also The Sly Collection if you like Infamous. Heavy Rain was a lot of fun, if not a bit silly and overwrought. Keep in mind you can also use it to play PS1 games, either in disc form or downloaded. The Pixeljunk games are pretty fun, too, but I think those either came out or are coming out for PC.
