It wasn't pathetic it was poignant. It was to show how important it was to him to stay living as that regeneration, because who knows what crap could happen when he regenerates, as he said in the End of Time, "Some new man goes sountering off." It's possible that his new regeneration could care less about the past regeneration's friends, or be totally nuts(i.e. the 6th Doctor)

Besides, that whole sequence won Tennant the Television award for best drama.
I just expected him to go down with a bang, not all alone in the TARDIS saying "I don't wanna die!" like a weak, small child. I thought/hoped he would've died as he lived, instead I got something that felt very narm-ish.

Then again I thought his character was going downhill in the 4th season anyway. So grumpy and depressed, and he died being all depressed and grumpy and weak to boot.

Hate Halo all you want you haters, but you can't say anything against that beautiful soundtrack.

Without that, the game would've been merely ok. With it it became an epic battle for survival.
So only weak small children can say they don't want to die? An Adult can still be strong and not want to die, it isn't child-like to not want to die. His character wasn't going downhill in the 4-4.5th season. His character was getting more complex, he was becoming an even more rich character, people change and can get depressed, it is a part of life. I don't know about you, but I liked it because it made his character more real. That is what I want with my favorite television heroes, that if I was standing next to them, I could actually believe they were real. If you thought Tennant's Doctor was grumpy, you should watch the first Doctor William Hartnell from 1963 to 1966.

-------

On the Halo thing, the music is awesome. I remember when I was playing Halo 3 a year or so ago, I was texting a friend about something while that music was going on the title screen, and my mom came in the room wondering what the great music was from. She couldn't believe it was from a video game.

You should watch The Lord of the Rings Return of the King's ending. I tear up consistently. "My friends you bow to no one."

The movie "Castaway", which is pretty much sad from beginning to end, but one scene in particular made me cry, and, to this day, it remains the only movie that has actually made me bawl my eyes out. It is the scene when Tom Hanks loses his "Wilson", though I can't find a sufficient clip on Youtube.
these get me every time

bro, think about the ones that you hold dearest. the most important person or people in your life. now imagine them gone, or in immense pain, or telling you they hate you. imagine them pretty much leaving you forever. that always makes me cry.

No I just didn't think him being the kind of character who does that.

And that's also where the difference between you and me lies; I don't watch Doctor Who for complex and rich characters. If I want emotional depth I'll go watch Battlestar Galactica.

No, I like Doctor Who for it's zany, cheesy, juicy B-movie feel. The thrill of adventure, touching heroics (Rory anyone?), Crowning Moments of Badass (plenty of those to go around) and that delicious British feel to it. Tennant's ending just didn't seem to fit with that.

This scene also serves to test whether you have a soul. In the future, all those questions about whether intelligent machines are alive will be determined by making them watch this clip.
I'm a robot, that clip didn't emotionally get to me :(.

I can't cry. I jabbed out my tearducts when I was a little boy. Ah shit! Dry tears!

OT: Why would you ever what to cry (I mean besides tears of joy)? I haven't cried inn a while (although I think I've gotten pretty upset about some things) and I don't see that as a bad thing. I'll try to find something that moved me though so that I can add too this thread.

I seriously hope they at least consider a multiple Doctor episode and bring Tennant back, hopefully for a two part set.
I hope they do that. I wouldn't mind seeing Ecclestone back, either. At first, I wasn't sure what to make of Tennant because I was used to the Ninth Doctor by that point. And then Tennant blew me away. He was amazing. But Eccleston did a good job, too.

I disliked quite a bit about the specials. The Next Doctor seemed marvelous, and the second one (Forget the name) was decent, but Water on Mars/End of Time really had the Doctor acting in a way that seemed grossly out of character for quite a bit of the time. Which is a shame, because The End of Time had some seriously epic moments. But the portions where the Doctor seemed to turn away from his nature seemed like they were just writing a way to kill him.

Missed the 11th Doctor's first series, so I don't know if he's good or not. The end of the 10th Doctor certainly got tears out of me, though. and The very beginning of the 11th's run was certainly good. I preferred Moffat's episodes anyway, when I looked back at my favourites, so I'm probably going to enjoy the new series.

End of Series 4 had a similar reaction from me. Poor Donna.

The 11th, Matt Smith, is okay, he feels like a cross between the 2nd Doctor and the 6th Doctor. The 2nd clothes wise, and the 6th being too nuts. The episodes are pretty good in his first season as the Doctor, except for the two part finale. All I will say that there was a great suspenseful episode interlocking plot/problem, hand they dropped the ball on the finale, because they wrote themselves into a corner and had to create a BS ending. If you think Tennant's Doctor had some moments where he got out of situations without having a clear explanation of how with in actual science or science-fiction science, then Smith moment in the finale takes the cake. It even broke the rules of imaginary science, if that is even possible.

Other Who fans on the Escapist have harped on me in the past because I criticize the 11th's first season finale. They usually comment on how, oh, it was awesome and really funny.

My point is that it was too funny. With what the big plot problem was, there wasn't enough drama. Doctor Who is suppose to be a dramatic science fiction-like show with a bit of humor mixed in. This latest finale, was like a comedy show, with touch of drama. Watching Smith then, was like watching a clown dance merrily in a war zone.

I still recommend watching the latest season, just for the episodes that come before the two part finale. Seriously, if one or two of those episodes had been bad, and I had watched the finale then, I would have given up on the show, this is coming from a Doctor Who fan that has done the best he can to find and watch every episode from 1963 to now.

If you want to watch the latest season, since you said you hadn't, if you have a good net connection, go to places like sidereel.com and surfthechannel.com. They usually have links to episodes that have been placed on megavideo.com.

I'm probably just going to buy the DVDs, for the sake of it. I don't buy a lot of shows without having watched them first, but I missed this series because my DVR screwed up and I was pissed to find out.

I get what you mean on breaking the laws of imaginary science, though. It's suspension of disbelief, and the 10th Doctor was over the top sometimes, but he pulled it off most of the time. All Sci Fi, even the weakest and most tennuous sci fi runs on it. It's just that point where people start crying "Bull****!" That you have a problem. It's a shame, though. I really want the show to be good.

So one way or another, I'll give it a try. Lousy DVR and BBC America...*shakes fist impotently*

I can't think of any song that has made me cry solely because of how beautiful and sad it is except this one:

Of course knowing the context of when it was played makes it even mroe of a Tear Jerker.

When I need to cry I usually watch the complete 8 seasons of Scrubs. After all that, the finale gets me every time.

Grave of the Fireflies, it will send you into a deep depression from which no hope or joy can escape, and that's just at the half way point, I didn't finish it for fear that my soul might commit suicide.
Basically the whole film can be described as "And then it got worse...."

Equal parts brilliant film, for what it is, and awful film for how it makes me feel :(

*Goes to watch Porco Rosso to cheer himself up*

Also sorry for doubly post, but hey.
Thanks to that ugly the cat story i am shedding them by the bucketload, not crying per say, since there is no sobbing, but my eyes are flooding
