So, I saw a preview for World War Z the other day...

I love the work of Max Brooks. I love the work of Mel Brooks as well. But in this case, let's focus on Max, the book, and this movie.

The book is a shocking mockumentary of the zombie war based upon the Zombie Survival Guide's horrific dimensions taken to a logical conclusion of worldwide outbreak.

The movie looks pretty good, but it's definitely a movie, action-oriented horror, a kind of UNnatural disaster film which will do better than 2012, at least.

Does anyone know how much of this is true or not true, and do any of you know what form the movie will really take and do YOU think it'll be any good? Hell, do you think Max Brooks would approve, having written said book? Did they give him creative control? I don't know.

The movie looks alright, but it looks nothing like the book.

Really, you can't even depict most of the scenarios in the book with the fast zombies that are in the movie. This movie might be a good movie, or it might be a bad movie, but it's NOT World War Z.

I know that Max Brooks said that the movie and the book share only a name. The biggest change imo is that the movie zombies can run/jump/cooperate/etc. and I don't really know if that will be for the better or worse. My gut says that this movie is going to be trash but I'm going to reserve judgement because I REALLY want it to be good...

I haven't read the books, but It's more or less clear by that point that movie won't cover it. Events in a movie take place during the apocalypse itself, not after it.

As for movie itself, I'm really hyped for it, the only summer movie that I'm hyped for more is Pacific Rim. What I really freaking love is an idea to turn usual zombies into some sort of SpaceShip Troopers arachnids. That image of thousands of zombies climbing the wall is just freaking terrifying! And I thought that zombies couldn't scare me after 28 days later.

Seems to be more the piling on top of each other as a hill of rotten writhing flesh out of what I saw, but I understand your meaning.

The World War Z audio interviews are freakin' awesome. Some of the greatest moments in zombie fiction.

The movie I'm telling myself will be terrible, so that if it's fair-to-middling I'll be impressed.

But whenever a film and a book have a title as their primary tie, I'm usually disappointed.

The movie has had a troubled production, I read here and there, regarding massive rewrites and reshootings and people not being very happy overall with the final product. I say if a movie has a release date a couple of months from now and they're still reWRITING the ending (not to mention reSHOOTING it), it can't be very good, give or take a few notable exeptions (so few that they're indeed notable). Honestly, it looks like somebody's lease on the rights to the novel was running short and they decided to make something - ANYTHING - pronto lest they loose those rights and miss cashing in on the books' popularity. Starring Brad Pitt.

Unless I see Todd Wainio taking on the zombies at Hope, New Mexico, I'm not sold on the film.

The CGI reminds me of I Am Legend, along with everything else about it. What doesn't remind me I Am Legend, reminds me of 2012.
I'm really not interested in that movie.

Now, I think it looks like absolute garbage even aside from being an atrocious adaption with it's horrifically bad CGI, cliche dialog and PG-13 rating.

Books can absolutely be adapted well, and made into good movies.

World War Z is looking to be neither of these things.

Dude...it's not that it won't live up to the book. Nothing will.

It's that it took the book's title, and made a different film. The book is amazing - and there is no reason for it to be turned into a story about Brad Pitt and his family. That's every zombie movie ever. Why take the one name that represents a difference in the way we see zombie fiction and then just make it generic? That's the biggest crime.

The scariest parts of the book were to do with the mega-hordes in Asia and America and underwater. The fact that zombies were just bloody everywhere, and that outlasting them simply was not an option. A sense of hopelessness was the best (worst?) part for me.

How are we going to convey that with a story about saving your family? God damn man, I don't care if you don't live up to your source material, but at least try!

Oh god, that's hilarious. Zombie cats, why has nobody thought of this before?
Anyway, the movie looks decent... just like every other zombie film. I'll probably go see it with some friends because I doubt it's going to be actually bad, but if it misses out the really awesome parts of the book, the parts which gave it that human feel, then I'm going to be disappointed.

They're ruining the book. Ruining it. If they wanted to do it justice the only option would be to make a miniseries, but instead they're going for generic 'rar running zombie hordes'.

The trailer was stupid. It was basically showing us the entire film, negating the need to go and see it. Don't know anything about the book, but the film looks to be like a total waste of time. It's 2012 with zombies instead of natural disaster. Better things to watch, like blank walls, bricks and settling dust.

My understanding is that judging by the trailer, it's nothing like the book, the CGI is horrible, and it has a even worse looking iOS tie-in game. Take that to mean what you will.
