I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed this was pulling a 2007 I am Legend.

Anyway,
The movie looks bad and it should feel bad
The writers are bad and should feel bad
The directors are bad and should feel bad
The actors are something and should feel something

Well I was kinda interested when I saw the trailer then:

"Wait... Hold on. Are they... Running? They are. Fuck off!"

Both WWZ and Zombie Survival Guide EXPLICITLY state several times that fast zombies do not, and never will exist.

I still like the wall of zombies in motion. Even though it's moving too fast and it's like they're planning it intentionally since it forms up too fast... Yeah fast zombies. No thanks. The wall forms naturally simply because there are more zombies than there is space for them to be so they end up piled on top of each other. They don't go "HEY THERE'S A WALL WE NEED TO GET OVER! ALRIGHT GUYS, FORM UP! YEEEHAW!!!!"

Yeah the book was too good to be associated with this shit. Fast zombies my arse...

Can't agree more with everyone else saying that this movie is World War Z in name only. I'm still up in the air on whether I'm going to see it. On the one hand, it may be good enough on it's own merits. But on the other hand, I don't like movie studios paying money to get the rights to a book, show, video game, or anything else just so they can have the name. If you're not going to be faithful to the source material, then don't bother. Because if it's not faithful to the source material then all you're doing is deliberately trying to prey on those who may not look into it before hand, but will just look at the movie listings for that week, see World War Z is in theaters, and decide to see it because they liked the book. And that's just not right as far as I'm concerned.

The true ghouls involved are those heartless, emotionless flesh eating drones of the marketing department that thought this was a good idea, voraciously draining every last drop of lifeblood from a film project that otherwise might have the slightest reason to exist.

Howabouts we make a film about a small group of authors, editors and artists, barricading themselves in an office from a horde of withered corpses in smart suits?

Going by the trailer, it looks like it will share nothing with the book but the name. Hopefully it will be a good zombie action flick at least so i'll reserve judgement until I see it. Really wish they went by the book though.

I prefer fast zombies to shambling zombies so I think the movie might be okay. The book was pretty awesome though, so I'm wondering why the filmmakers decided to do a total rewrite. My guess is fast zombies lend themselves more to action while slow zombies are more nuanced horror. Action movies tend to do well in the summer blockbuster season.

The book BEGGED to be adapted as a mockumentary - talking head interviews, shots of the interviewees walking around wistfully in a post-zombie apocalypse landscape, fake news paper clippings and fake news stories, with maybe a "dramatic reenactment" here and there. It could've been emotional, powerful and easy on the budget compared to this shallow monstrosity of a blockbuster, so WHY DID THEY DECIDE TO MAKE THE LATTER?!

Gotta say, as far as zombies go, the first time I saw the trailer was a bigger disappointment than when I first heard what the gameplay of Dead Island was going to be like in a developer interview.

I'm probably going to go watch it with some friends this summer, completely expecting a typical zombie movie. I'm in the process of reading the book, and I'm quite sad that the movie won't be even remotely similar to the book because the book is awesome. However, I'm going expecting a fun to watch zombie movie (which I haven't found in a while) so hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Keeping expectations low to avoid disappointment and whatnot. However, I'm still saddened the movie isn't taking the path of the book, I blame CoD for putting the mindset of people that "different won't sell".

I read the book. I was unimpressed. It's hard to remember which character it is you're coming back to, and what he did the last time you read about him. Having it all been ten years gone by the time the writer starts the interviews was also a poor choice, because you can tell that humanity did survive and enough to get back to things as frivolous as journalism (which isn't THAT frivolous, I know, but it means the writer isn't fighting to find canned goods or anything). And again, since it was interviews, there weren't any "And then the creature was right on top of me and its jaws were an inch from my face" moments, least as far as I remember. It was almost an exercise in sanitizing a zombie film so there's no drama or tension at all. I don't have high hopes for the film, either.
